"Did he have a wrinkly forehead?"
Mishtak snorted from the doorway at the remark, obviously Hector had not seen him behind his junior officer and their cadet counterpart, but he said nothing having decided to let Xena take the lead on this one. However, if this man needed an attitude adjustment Mishtak would be glad to assist at this point.
He stepped into the shuttle bay and allowed the door to close behind him, he then leaned against the wall and folded his arms across his chest. he may have been slightly shorter than most Klingons, as he was under seven feet and most Klingons are seven feet or more, but he was still a physically imposing figure no matter how you sliced it.

As they entered the shuttlebay, the first thing S'Louk noticed was the open hatch. He turned to Xena to mention to her, but she had already noticed it and was turning to him. After a little while, S'Louk and Xenas tricorders began beeping. After a little while a human came out of the open hatch. He had his PHASer at the ready and when the Officer came out he apperared to jump at the height of the Lieutenant. Had he been human, he might have laughed at this. But being Vulcan he just kept his normal, emtionless gaze. The two officers becan exchanging words and before you could utter "live long and prosper" the man in gold was giving of highly exaggerated movents and then uttered the words
"Did he have a wrinkly forehead?"
That was bound to avregrate his chief, and sure enough there was a slight hiss as the door opened. As the two senior officers continued talking, he turned his head slightly and noticed the Klingon standing there. Turning bck he stood there and waited for a moment when he could either intervene or interject with his opion.

"What was I doing in here? I was working, until I was babysitting. And then apparently someone decided to send a security team all the way down here to lock me in, inexplicably. What are you doing here, except wasting your time?"
Not many people have ever spoke to Xena with the tone this man had been using. It was somehow twistingly refreshing. "Not exactly according to sources." Xena referenced to work, dryly. She had read over the reports. Actually she had been the first one to read them to her knowledge. They were not fun.
"Here's an idea!" "Bridge to the shuttle-bay. What's going on down there? Well! Nothing out of the ordinary, Lieutenant, I certainly wouldn't mobilise a security team over it. Shuttle-bay out!" "Go on. Whose idea was it to send in the cavalry? Did he have a wrinkly forehead?
Xena watched his pantomiming with half hearted amusement. Of course she was amused from the inside. She didn't let the look of seriousness sway from the outside; especially when on a job. That would be quite unprofessional. Also, people wouldn't take her serious if she did.
"One: you are the chief engineer. You told no one where you were going to be. Two: The internal sensors have somehow managed to 'malfunction', in which they need a code. Nothing was recorded. Three: There was a report about you and your 'missing' combadge. Four: There have been other reports about you from other officers with whom you served before that got transfered to the Orion before you did. Five: We found you in a hatch instead of trying to get out using the override system. Six: I am not required to tell you anything else." Xena said in a serious tone; laying down some ground. From all those points they had good reason to be there. Those points also led up to a conclusion, which hopefully would not have to be explained.
"Do you understand or do I need to spell it out to the point of a preschooler comprehension level?"
Xena griped Romilly's upper arm rather tight. So tight actually that there would no doubt be red marks. Hopefully he didn't bruise easy. "Let's go." Xena started leading Hector out of the shuttle bay. "S'Louk, do a standard security check in here before you leave, put it on report, then have someone go in that hatch and see if anything was tampered with."

Lieutenant Xena had a magnificent poker face. So far as Hector was concerned she found him about as interesting as a Vulcan romance novel. He listened impatiently as she rhymed off a list of alleged excuses for sending a three-man team to investigate what amounted to the handiwork of an eleven-year old boy she was more than well acquainted with, and was about to counter her argument with one of his own when she took him by the arm.
"What!" Hector was stunned. For once he actually hadn't been doing anything wrong -- he most certainly hadn't tampered with the internal sensors. Guilty, yes, of removing his comm-badge on duty, and of attempting experimental modifications on a Starfleet-owned shuttle without express permission from the commanding officer, but he hadn't done much else -- misdemeanors, both, surely.
"Madame, you don't need to arrest me if you want an excuse to put your hands on me," he said tartly, unable to resist needling her a little more. "In case you hadn't been informed, we are actually on the same team," he added, scowling at Mishtak as they passed him. He didn't like Klingons, and he especially didn't like the notion that it was acceptable for him to try to intimidate other crewmen just with his size and presence. If the crew were ranked by intellect Hector was fairly certain Mishtak would fall below some of the plants in the hydroponics bay.
Perhaps that was unfair, but it was rare that Hector was in the business of being fair.
"Furthermore, I don't think I can be penalised for choosing another route when you locked me in here in the first place. I assumed that Mr. O'Conner had jammed the door shut. I also took that to mean that the overrides would similarly be useless. I can assure you, had I known you were outside -- I would have had much more fun at your expense, for a start."

"Madame, you don't need to arrest me if you want an excuse to put your hands on me,"
"That's the only time I ever put my hands on scum." Tressa warned me about Human men having a one track mind. Tressa had been Xena's guardian when she went to live with the women on Angle One. Xena was one of them. Both her parents had come from that planet, but they like a few others had left. Let sleeping dogs lay. It was old news.
"In case you hadn't been informed, we are actually on the same team,"
"And I'll believe that when I see it." Right now things stood until the whole issue was resolved.
"Furthermore, I don't think I can be penalised for choosing another route when you locked me in here in the first place. I assumed that Mister O' Conner had jammed the door shut. I also took that to mean that the overrides would similarly be useless. I can assure you, had I known you were outside -- I would have had much more fun at your expense, for a start."
Tell it to the judge. Xena thought about saying that, but decided against it as it had a possible humor show through. "Sure. Blame all your problems on a little boy. That's real grown up." Xena said as they were now outside the shuttle bay. "And just so you know, that is no excuse not to try the over ride. You are an engineer after all; supposedly a brilliant one. If you wanted to I'm sure you could just have utilized your alleged engineering expertise."
"If you don't mind gentlemen I'd like to question this one alone." Xena said to Mishtak and S'Louk.
Xena; hand still tightly wrapped around Hector's arm, led him to the turbolift, and thrust him in. "Deck six."
Little did he or anyone know, Xena was taking him to her quarters.

"Sure. Blame all your problems on a little boy. That's real grown up."
"Or it's the truth," Hector said, looking at her as though she had grown a second head, "is this the Klingon school of criminal investigation? Ask no questions, accept no answers and -- ow -- manhandle your subjects at your leisure?"
"And just so you know, that is no excuse not to try the over ride. You are an engineer after all; supposedly a brilliant one. If you wanted to I'm sure you could just have utilized your alleged engineering expertise."
Ouch. Hector allowed her to sweep him from the room with minimal physical protest -- he was a cerebral sort, and disinclined to fight physically until it became his last resort.
"Over-riding it would take longer," he retorted irritably. "Just because I can doesn't mean I can be bothered. It was more efficient to go through the tube and fix it from the outside. I outrank you, you know."
Not to mention it was a far quicker way to catch Shawn O'Conner watching his handiwork. Hector liked to think he understood eleven year old boys -- he'd been one. If Shawn had locked that door, he would have stuck around to see how flustered Hector had gotten trying to get back through it. It was as much about pride as genius. True genius wasn't in complexity, it was in seeing simplicity and seizing it.
Hector threw one last murderous glance over his shoulder at the Vulcan cadet and his Klingon supervisor as he was frogmarched around the corner.
End Hector -- move to crew quarters.

Mishtak watched as Xena escorted Hector out of the shuttle bay, he was still uncertain as to who had disabled the interior sensors or for what purpose...
"Mr. S'Louk, before you go off duty I would like you to finish up in here. A full scan to determine if anything other than our sensors was tampered with and any other scans you feel would be prudent to your investigation..."
That's right, he said your investigation.
"...Seeing as Lt. Xena has taken it upon herself to question our witnesses, I leave the crime scene investigation in your hands Cadet. I have an errand to run before my shift on the bridge, should you need anything you know where to find me..."
He turned and was about to leave when he had a further thought.
"...Also Cadet, when you next report for duty, report to the bridge. If I remember correctly, you have very limited time at tactical and I wish to correct that, Crewman Chan will see to your bridge training."
He exited then moved out of the shuttle bay and into the corridor, he then made his way to the turbo lift to swing by engineering before his bridge time, hopefully he and Sharpay could grab an early dinner...
END - Mishtak: Move back to engineering.
