"Retreat. Execute Janeway Alpha four, bring us around to two seven zero point five, proceed with Picard Beta nine on a heading of two seven six point one at warp two. Hold that course for five minutes then bring us to a complete stop..."
"What?! Retreat?...aye sir." Larkin hastily put in the coordinates in the ship and off they went. This tasted so foul and bitter, he could only imagine how mishtak felt. He had to hold back from physically spitting the disgust out of his mouth and instead swallowed hard, making a gulping sound. Larkin sat back in the Commanders Chair. He looked at Mishtak with a subtle fire in his eyes.
"I may not be Klingon but they will pay forever scratch, for every life we have lost this day. They will pay." Larkin hit his console with his fist. And stood up and walked off to the side. He was not happy about this outcome but their options were so very little.

"What?! Retreat?...aye sir."
Mishtak heard the surprise and anger in Larkin's voice and felt the same anger burning within his own chest...
"I may not be Klingon but they will pay forever scratch, for every life we have lost this day. They will pay."
For a moment Larkin reminded Mishtak of another man that had once served as his first officer, a Klingon named Najuk, back when Mishtak was the captain of a Klingon K'vort-class bird of prey.
"bortaS bIr jablu'DI' reH QaQqu' nay'"
Mishtak said under his breathe as he began skimming the various reports coming in from all sectors. He did not like the looks of what he was seeing, several hull breaches a half dozen injuries and the loss of several systems. He hoped the away team could manage until they got back.
"All stations report. I want an Estimated Time of Completion on all repairs, starting with life support, shields, weapons and sensors. In that order."
He prioritized the repairs to go along with his return plan, but for it to work properly he needed Larkin's input as well as the rest of the senior crew.
"When we are fully operational again I want to head back, quickly, Catch them off guard if possible and ram a quantum torpedo straight down their Peta'Q throats..."
He realized that was more Klingon than Starfleet and felt the need to correct himself...
"...However, I am open to alternative suggestions."

Larkin looked around at the damaged systems and reports coming in and sparks flying everywhere. He shook his head slowly and retook his seat in the Commanders chair. So much damaged all because they were caught off guard. This...was not acceptable. Larkin took a look around at the crew. Some injured, some helping the injured and he then looked at Mishtak.
"Sir, I think I can speak on behalf of the crew when I say any plan but kicking their buts from here to the alpha qudrant can go to hell. They want a fight, we'll give them a fight like no one has seen since Wolf 459. We will make them pay, and when they hail us for surrendor we will offer them no quarter, for they offered us none. We will not tire, we will not rest, we will not grow weary, we brave men and women of Starfleet will show this alien scum just what happens when you wound a tiger. Ready your meals and eat hearty Orion, for tonight we dine in hell! VAE VICTUS!" Larkin said passion growing in his voice steadier and steadier, like a fire being stoked by the bellows.

Zephelor looked around as things were going from bad to worse. The Captain wanted probes, but the last hit knocked out the launchers, the good news however was that he had managed to get minimal sensors online, they could at least find out what they were up against.
Zephelor moving over his console he announced "sir, the probe launchers are offline, but I've managed to get minimal sensors online, and should be able to get them up to 65% in the next few minutes". With that being said Zephelor continued to get the sensors back to a decent state, but with everything being knocked offline and power reserves draining he knew sensors were not the priority system.
Finding out the weapons and shields were failing, Zephelor started to focus on trying to get those systems back. He re-routed emergency power to the shields and forward phaser banks and added "I've transferred all the power I can to the shields and forward phasers, try them now." He awaited a response to see if his quick fix worked.

"Retreat. Execute Janeway Alpha four, bring us around to two seven zero point five, proceed with Picard Beta nine on a heading of two seven six point one at warp two. Hold that course for five minutes then bring us to a complete stop..."
Finally, some sense out of you. Xena thought as she continued the work at her partical function console. She had butterflies in her stomach about Hector though. Something she'd never admit to. Xena fully thought everyone on the away team was fully able to take care of themselves, even the cadets. But Hector...she was not so sure about him. What if he did something really stupid that got himself killed?! Don't think about him right now. You have a job to do.
"...Get weapons and shields back on line preferably before we stop, and someone get those blasted sensors working again..."
"Aye sir." Xena did what she could from where she was; which in the ships current state was not much. "Permission to continue work from engineering."
"Oh, and Commander Reinhardt, you don't speak for the entire crew with that statement. I disagree. Violence should always be the last solution to every problem. On a note: we never gave a hail of surrender so your statement makes no sense. And it's Wolf 359, not 459. Lastly: "The best tactical move is when you are at the highest gain and lowest lost"."
It was strange to hear herself say things of such, but perhaps since meeting Shawn and Hector, Xena's perspectives changed a little bit. Tag: Mishtak/Any

"Sir, I think I can speak on behalf of the crew when I say any plan but kicking their buts from here to the alpha quadrant can go to hell. They want a fight, we'll give them a fight like no one has seen since Wolf 459. We will make them pay, and when they hail us for surrender we will offer them no quarter, for they offered us none. We will not tire, we will not rest, we will not grow weary, we brave men and women of Starfleet will show this alien scum just what happens when you wound a tiger. Ready your meals and eat hearty Orion, for tonight we dine in hell! VAE VICTUS!"
Mishtak's Klingon blood enjoyed Larkin's little tirade, but as a Starfleet officer he had to disagree with several points, even though it pained him almost physically to do so...
"Unfortunately you do not speak for the entire crew as there are several Vulcans on board that would call you... an Illogical Human..."
"Oh, and Commander Reinhardt, you don't speak for the entire crew with that statement. I disagree. Violence should always be the last solution to every problem.
"...and starfleet's mission is one of peaceful exploration, our weapons are only to be used as a defensive measure, similar to the ancient Earth martial art known as Karate..."
On a note: we never gave a hail of surrender so your statement makes no sense.
"...also true, our hail was an attempt at a peaceful resolution as I am not one to surrender for any reason..." 'Despite what Sharpay might have to say on the subject.' he thought to himself. This was going to be a long shift...
And it's Wolf 359, not 459.
'Oh brother, now she's getting technical, this is not going to end well for either of us...
Lastly: "The best tactical move is when you are at the highest gain and lowest lost"."
and there was his opening...
"Our highest gain is the rescue of our away team, however in our current state our losses would far exceed our gain, that is why I ordered the retreat..."
He turned to look at Xena...
"...though I never thought I'd hear these words come from you Luietenant..."
"sir, the probe launchers are offline, but I've managed to get minimal sensors on line, and should be able to get them up to 65% in the next few minutes".
'The best news I've heard today.' he thought again...
"I've transferred all the power I can to the shields and forward phasers, try them now."
"Thank you Mr. Krax, Lt. Xena raise shields, lets see how much we can get out of them. See if the targeting sensors are up to a usable level and let me know when we have our torpedo and probe launchers back on line."
He sank back in his seat, this was truly the longest day in many years, he had gotten comfortable in his role as chief of security and tactical. The rest of the crew may have hated many of his security measures and they had the right to feel that way, but truth be told most of them were unneccesary... It was mostly done out of boredom and complacency, but now that complacent attitude had been shaken up, kicked around and tossed out an air lock. It's not like he had never been in command during a crisis before, he had commanded a bird of prey during a Borg attack and that crew had come out of it in one piece, more or less. This crew was well trained and each officer was top notch in their own departments, he did not need to tell anyone how to do their jobs they all performed well above starfleet expectations, which is why he did not need to worry about not having his systems back on for he knew they would get the job done he only needed to worry about when he'd get them back. It wasn't just the crew at risk from these new assailants, but if they somehow located the away team then their rescue would be for not. He could not allow that to be the case and so his orders stood, make repairs and then they would go back and defend themselves and their away team to whatever end.
Again, he was sitting back in his chair, a relative sense of peace had washed over him and he was now thinking like a Starfleet Captain and not just as a Klingon Warrior...
He pressed the intercom button to make a ship wide announcement:
"All senior officers and department heads report to the briefing room in one hour...."
he then disengaged the intercom
"Mr. Syell, you will have the bridge during this meeting, also you will be in charge of overseeing all repairs and modifications needed to get us combat ready. Larkin, prepare the briefing room, you've got an hour."
He sank into the chair, it was comfortable but at the same time it was a form of torture all it's own...

"Our highest gain is the rescue of our away team, however in our current state our losses would far exceed our gain, that is why I ordered the retreat..."
"Exactly. You went the Vulcan way; which just so happen to be a Vulcan quote. "The best tactical move is when you are at the highest gain and lowest lost". Commander Tuvok said that. I don't think I need to quote Ambassador Spock."
"...though I never thought I'd hear these words come from you Lieutenant..."
Xena gave a shrug. "Ones perspective tends to change some when you're around a child a lot, not to mention talking a bit about marriage customs with Ensign Harper." Xena grinned as she said the last part. Xena and Sharpay had talked weddings when alone during the visit of Mishtak's family.
Back to business. "Shields at fifty percent." Xena reported as her fingers danced across her lightly flickering console. "Reports from engineering say that the targeting sensors are still down, but should be functional again after they get repairs to the secondary and main power systems; of which they have no estimated time of repairs."

"Noted Liuetenant, as you were" Larkin said curtly. He then heard Mishtak tell him to prepare the Briefing room. He had one hour, he would only need half that time. "Aye Sir." He got up and left to prepare the briefing room for their up coming meeting. He hated things like this, a necessary annoyance.

And according to the clock it was just about briefing time. Xena let and ensign take over her station; since she had been made 'chief' by Mishtak, and walked right on into the briefing room. Before entering she looked around the bridge with her blue eyes. What a mess. Hopefully she'll be clean when we get the captain, and others.

It was now time for the meeting he had called, he thought an hour would have given him more time to come up with what he needed but in the end he was no better off than he had been an hour ago...
Larking had set up the room, Xena was relieved by an ensign, Syell had command of the bridge, all he needed was for all the senior officers to make their way into the briefing room so they could have a nice little chat about what to do next.

Mishtak strode back onto the bridge, still carrying a large cup of Raktajino, and took a look around. It was more chaotic than he remembered but at least there were crewmen and other enlisted types clearing the debris and making it recognizable again. There were several sets of legs sticking out from almost every console attempting to repair all the damage.
He did not move toward his seat, instead he toured the entire bridge, checking each station, looking over every console and sipping from his cup periodically. After his third round of the bridge he moved back toward the captain's seat, looked at it for a good long while, sighed, sipped from the cup and turned to face the main viewer which had been turned off.
"View screen on..." He commanded "...show me all exterior angles, I want to see what the outside of our ship looks like."
The screen then changed between each of the exterior angles viewable by the remote viewing scanners, he saw battle damage, hull breaches and several large holes in the outer hull. It made him grimace at the thought, they were light years from assistance or help of any kind and he had no idea where they were going to find the materials to patch up the exterior damage.
"Damage report."
A random ensign prattled off a laundry list of damage... "Sensors are down, shields are at a minimum, weapons are off line hull breaches reported on... ..."
Even as the ensign continued Mishtak had stopped listening, he was watching the repairs being done, the damage on the view screen and his mind was wandering over all the options they had at the moment, and none of them were very appealing...

Syell's time in command of the Bridge had been rather quiet, apart from the repairs going on and the reports coming in that more and more of the ship's systems became operational again. He had been the one that ordered the maximum number of repair crews and then some to start repairing the damages. When Mishtak returned from the briefing, he rose out of the Captain's chair respectfully and took his seat in the Second Officer's chair. "Sir," he reported. "Repairs are ongoing, and it's good news and bad news. The good news is that some of our systems are operational again. The bad news is that it's going to take a while before the ship is shipshape."
"I've already taken the liberty," he further reported. "Of engaging most of the crew in repair duties. At least it will cut some time. We could make our way back to the Away Team's location while repairs are going on. Every second we stay away might endanger their lifes in a way we might not know." He was worried about Zack and Rose, and even about Tiho, despite Chrym's quarrels with the symbiont in his previous lifes.

"Sir, repairs are ongoing, and it's good news and bad news. The good news is that some of our systems are operational again. The bad news is that it's going to take a while before the ship is shipshape."
Mishtak had been zoned out until Syell gave him a more in-depth report. He came back tot he resent and saw Larkin enter the bridge and head for the wrong seat, perhaps this crisis was taking more of a toll on the crew than the new captain had originally realized...
"I've already taken the liberty, of engaging most of the crew in repair duties. At least it will cut some time. We could make our way back to the Away Team's location while repairs are going on. Every second we stay away might endanger their lives in a way we might not know."
He was right, and yet wrong at the very same time...
As Mishtak sat in the captains seat he responded...
"If we leave before repairs are completed we might be able to rescue the away team, but if we wait for a little while longer, build up our strength and return fresh, we will undoubtedly crush those who would stand in our way..."
Perhaps now was a good time for a lesson in Klingon tactics.
"In my culture, running away as we did would not be accepted among the other commanders, but by doing so I have ensured our victory whereas a Klingon vessel would have met its defeat. Of course a Klingon vessel would have left the away team for dead and continued their mission..."
He turned to look at the cadet
"...bet your glad you're nor on a Klingon ship, aren't you?"
He was trying to make light of the situation and relieve tensions, after all he was now the commanding officer and it was his duty to ensure the well being of the entire crew, although he'd also let Suroc handle the heavy lifting in that area...
"Commander Reinhardt, bring the helm up to speed on our plan and prepare to engage when shields reach 100% effectiveness. Mr. Syell, continue monitoring repairs and alert myself and Commander Reinhardt when shields reach 90% and weapons are back on line and operational."
That would be the signal to begin the return journey, at 90% the shields would hold just long enough for them to take out the attacking vessel, but at 100% he was confident they would secure the victory, but again only if the weapons were on line. So his plan was to engage impulse engines and begin the return lap just before everything was back up and running so that when it was all they had to do was jump to warp five or higher and begin the rescue...
