Jethro came into the Inn wearing his old jeans and long sleeved t-shirt, he wondered how many of these people even knew what time period his clothing came from. It's not that he liked old things,it's just that he found this outfit, and many others from this time period, to be terribly comfortable.
As he entered he noticed several others present, including the executive officer, but he didn't spot the commander who had said he's be here. It was just as well as he did not intend to speak to anyone in particular at the moment, instead he found a nice stool at the bar, away from almost everyone else and attempted to flag the bartender over. he wanted to know if this man had anything resembling earth bourbon or brandy even, but he'd settle for a halfway decent beer if he had too...

Arthur came running into the Portal Inn at a speed that would have made people wonder whether he was being pursued, still wearing his uniform. He was late for dinner! He now regretted the joke he made at Celestia in Ops. She was talking to Cadfael at the moment. He wondered if she had told his friend about their dinner. "Sorry I'm late," he said, moving towards the bar. "A diplomatic communiqué called me away. Lucky we got miss Mirax to work on that. So, Cadfael, a table for two, if you please."
He motioned gently and charmingly for Celeste to join him at the table. "I know, I know," he said, attempting to avoid a lashing of the tongue. "I said you shouldn't call me late for dinner but... I am also a Starfleet Commander."

She misses the point completely... "No, no, no," he said chuckling, making it clear that Arthur's number one had misunderstood. "I meant that Arthur is only human like the rest of us. I can tell you, he has some..." Just as he was about to say that Arthur had some flaws, the Commanding Officer came running into the pub as if he were being chased and made straight for the bar, telling both of them that he was late for dinner. He looked at Celestia with a 'proves my point'-look.
He pointed the two towards a table by the window, already decked and equipped with this week's menu. It was a bit sparse: Rathr Fish and Chips was probably the most exotic of them, and even that didn't differ much from the British dishes he had imitated. Of course, he could also replicate the Earth equivalents, but he much rather made something special. "I'll be joining you two soon." Best to leave those two alone for a bit.
He went to deal with the man in casual outfit, although he had a Starfleet commbadge that gave him away as one of the Station's officers. He had seen him before, so he was probably part of Art's senior staff. "Good evening," he said. "Can I get you something?"

"No, no, no," "I meant that Arthur is only human like the rest of us. I can tell you, he has some..."
"Some what?" Celestia asked in a hushed tone. Just then Arthur came running in the pub faster than a... what was it called again? Speeding bullet... locomotive... No matter. He then started apologizing about being late. Arthur then proceeded to explain why. Celestia simply looked at him with an arched brow; well until he said: 'Miss' in front of a name. Was every woman in Starfleet single? Celestia looked at Cadfadel who looked at her. She lightly gave a nod of her head in understanding.
"You see that?" Celestia questioned as she pointed to his combadge. "That is a communication devise." Hint, hint. The equivalent of 'you could have at least called'.
"No big though," Celestia said doing her best to shrug it off. "at least I had good company to talk to while I waited." Celestia said a tad playfully with a grin sitting at the table.
"Got a question for ya," Celestia began. She'd done something on her last ship and got chewed out for it. "if there was an intruder alert, and the section of the ship had been evacuated, would you get angry if I were to put up force fields on the surrounding area to confine the intruders then disengage the artificial gravity so security could apprehend them with ease?"

Art felt guilty about not calling Celeste, but at that moment he was in the middle of the communications with Elder S'bos. "I'm sorry, Celeste," he said. "I'll remember next time." He was glad she made no big deal of it, and that Cadfael had at least been a good conversation partner, which truth be told was no surprise to him.
"Got a question for ya," "if there was an intruder alert, and the section of the ship had been evacuated, would you get angry if I were to put up force fields on the surrounding area to confine the intruders then disengage the artificial gravity so security could apprehend them with ease?"
Arthur thought for a bit, putting the pieces of the puzzle together. "Innovative solution," he said with a chuckle, meaning it as a compliment. "If it got the job done and nobody got harmed, I would probably commend you for it. Though I have one question: how would Security get them out in zero gravity? Would they float towards them or something?" He laughed at the prospect of Magnus floating towards an intruder in the middle of a locked-off section.

Next time? I like the sound of that. Next time meant it would happen again: them and some sort of activity. Quite nice. Celestia lightly giggled.
"Transporter system. Just beam them out or keep 'em in the buffer until one decides what to do with the intruders. Of course, come to think of it one could always do the opposite: increase the grav then take a phaser that was set on stun and shoot."
She'd said that so very casually as if it were an every day type thing like; changing shoes. "And thanks." Celestia smiled. "Alright, your turn. What trouble did you get into? And don't say 'none'. No one is one hundred percent perfect."

Jethro watched as the commander came in running as if his pants were on fire. He overheard something about a diplomatic situation, which was a given on this station, and watched the owner escort them to a table before returning to the bar.
"Good evening. Can I get you something?"
"What do you have around here that resembles a good bourbon?"
He hoped the bar tender knew what bourbon was and given the atmosphere of the Portal Inn it would seem that the proprietor knew more than his fare share about the twentieth century so he had high hopes for this place. Jethro noted that one thing missing was someone slinging beer glasses around the corner as if throwing a curve ball in an old baseball game, but that was neither here nor there.
He leaned on the bar slightly in an attempt to get more comfortable and glanced over at the two senior most officers for a bit. It was almost too obvious what they thought of one another, well... He supposed it was only obvious to himself and the barkeeper as it seemed the two of them needed a map to see it, maybe one day they'd get on the same page. Then again how would that affect the chain of command, his head began to hurt and he decided he really needed that drink...

Art wondered why Celestia giggled. He supposed she just was like that, nothing special between her and himself. He frowned at her solution. "Very... creative," he said. Some of these solutions came drastically close to violating sentient rights, something Arthur definitely thought was a no-go.
"Alright, your turn. What trouble did you get into? And don't say 'none'. No one is one hundred percent perfect."
"Trouble? Me?" asked Arthur, all innocent-like. After a while, he couldn't keep up the pretense, and started laughing. "Seriously though, the last time I've been in trouble... well, before I came late for dinner with a certain young lady." He looked at her and smiled charmingly. "That's a very difficult question."

A bourbon? Cadfael sure had whiskey, but Bourbon... "Well, if you're referring to a controlled origin in North America," he said. "No, I don't think so. But I do have good Scotch imported from Earth." He saw the Intelligence Officer look at Arthur and Celeste, and threw him a meaningful glance. "Surprising isn't it, by the way," he asked, "that our Commander immediately has dinner with his First Officer?"

"Very... creative,"
"Well it was not all my idea. Don't you ever read the engineering manuals by Montgomery Scott or any history?" Ah well. No use going on about it. She did detect the slight change of tone in his voice. Not at all good. Not that there was anything she could do about it anyways. Celestia went onto listen to Arthur talk.
"Difficult because it's too long a list?" She was just teasing him again. No harm. However: "Who was it that said you were in trouble with me? Arthur, you know full well that if I was upset with you that you'd know it." She'd either ignore him: which was hard or loose her temper lashing out with her tongue. If Celestia lashed out in many different languages you knew she was very upset and you were in shark infested waters.
"You know, if you keep smiling like that you're libel to make a few woman faint. Sickbay could get a little crowded."

"Well, if you're referring to a controlled origin in North America. No, I don't think so, but I do have good Scotch imported from Earth."
"I don't usually drink Scotch."
"Surprising isn't it, by the way, that our Commander immediately has dinner with his First Officer?"
"Not really. In my line of work I need to read people, and the stories those too are telling with their eyes and body language say plenty. Personal feelings aside, it makes since for the commander and his first officer to have dinner in order to relax a little around one another. Working that close to someone is bound to create tension or friction, to the layman's eye they are simply getting to know one another, but to the trained eye it looks as though they have fallen for each other and don't know it yet..."
He had spent years reading people's body language and eyes, he was one of the top interviewers/interrogators in Starfleet Intelligence and he knew when someone was lying, usually. These trained skills mixed with his uncanny 'gut' feelings made him one of the best investigators out there. The Admiralty hated to see him wasted in the Delta Quadrant but it was were he wanted to be.
"On second thought, I'll take a glass of Brandy. Aldebaran if you have any."

"Oh, I'm sorry," said Art, and he smiled 'like that' again. He did find the compliment to be a bit too much for just a friendly dinner, but he couldn't help smiling again, even though he wondered whether Celeste meant anything by it or was just concerned. "Let's get food. I'll take the Rathr Fish and Chips. I heard the Rathren are rather good fishermen!"

Cadfael threw Jethro an understanding smile. So I have a second opinion that says the two of them might make a fine couple, he thought. "Oh, knowing Art, he'll be 'not knowing' for quite some time," he commented. "He enjoys being single too much to decide he's found the woman of his life with overnight. Although I must say, it keeps coming back from the two of them ever since I met Art on the Kirk." Not to mention Commander Milos is evidently in love with Arthur.
Jethro asked for Brandy. "Well, I think I've got that," said Cadfael, pouring a brandy for the Intelligence Officer and a scotch for himself. "Here you go. Your health, sir."

Celestia sort of felt her own heart flutter a bit when Arthur smiled 'like that' again. Sorry my foot! "Cut it out!" Celestia semi whispered, just ever so with mild playfulness. She had considered lightly giving Art a kick under the table, but decided against it; they were in public after all. If it was just them she might have actually done it. A light kick was the equivalent of a pillow toss. Celestia suspected Arthur wouldn't think much of either, considering how she was not real serious unless the situation called for her to be. I wonder what would happen if we had all the woman rate or poll that smile...
Food. Is that all he can think about? Celestia thought with a soft smile as she put her elbow on the table; resting her chin in her hands palm. "Sounds good. I think I'll have that as well." Celestia replied. She then moved her hand to lightly cup her mouth. She started to silently crack up at the thought of the Rathren going fishing. The rubber overalls, plaid shirts, hats, sunblock on the nose...
Celestia remembered when her father had taken her and her two brothers fishing like that; with every single piece of equipment. Wading in the water had been fun, until she had stepped into a sink hole in the river. Her dad and brothers had to be careful they didn't get caught in one when they had helped pull her out. Memories.
Hmm. Perhaps when time allowed the two of them could go fishing or sailing on the holodeck.

"Oh, knowing Art, he'll be 'not knowing' for quite some time,"
Jethro took that to mean that Art was oblivious to matters of the heart.
"He enjoys being single too much to decide he's found the woman of his life with overnight. Although I must say, it keeps coming back from the two of them ever since I met Art on the Kirk."
"He should enjoy the single life, I've been married 4 times and divorced three... Anyway, settling down is a big step no matter how you look at it."
"Well, I think I've got that,"
Jethro simply smiled and waited...
"Here you go. Your health, sir."
"And to yours as well." Jethro said lifting his glass in a salute and taking a sip, it was some good stuff and he had not had it for some time. He decided to drink it slowly, remembering the stories he had heard about the time that Captain Scott had been drinking this stuff on the Enterprise-D, he did not want to experience that level of intoxication.
He again gazed around the bar, seeing who was where and what they were up to, it seemed a little too quiet for him, but then again not all the staff had arrived, probably be here Tuesday he thought.
