"So, when are you and Ensign Harper getting married?"
Mishtak nearly snorted his juice out through his nose when the question was asked.
"That is none of your business child."
In fact he didn't think it was anyone's business but his and Sharpay's, though they had not fully discussed it at any great lengths as of yet. He was certain that several of their conversations had begun to drift toward that subject but for some reason it was never openly debated. With Shawn's question it made Mishtak begin to think soon was a good time to broach the subject and finally define the exact parameters of the relationship.
He almost felt bad for snapping at the boy, but when he had returned from his thoughts and was about to say so he saw Shawn had wandered off toward the Captain. Good thing too, for Mishtak might have regretted actually apologizing to the pest, er... boy.
He listened from a distance as the others began discussing the programs they enjoy on the holodeck. He realized he had only been running training programs or historical battle simulations. hen he heard the mention of Baseball his interest was peaked. it was a sport from Earth many centuries ago that was still played commonly and often enough to still merit a small following. He had never seen a game, nor had he studied the rules but from what he gathered it as a form of proving one's fitness without the threat of serious harm or death. It had always seemed a bit tame to him by Klingon standards of course, but his brother had played and said it was, at the very least, intriguing. Of course all that really meant to Mishtak as it was something his brother enjoyed that didn't involve bloodshed. Hockey and Football always seemed more interesting to Mishtak, Hockey for the epic fights he had heard of and Football due to the shear force and power the players needed to be successful. Those were to Earth sports he might one day give a try.
He Watched as the Captain and Intel Officer seemed to come to an agreement on what program to run and began to leave, he did a quick glance around the room realizing he as one of the few people the boy would most likely choose to strike up another conversation with. he hurriedly downed his drink and ordered another, anticipating having to order something for the boy if he chose to return.

"That is none of your business child."
Yeah, yeah. Whatever. The young boy thought without a care. He was eleven. He was young. He had a lot of free time on his hands. Shawn was just doing his job! Being a child for as long as possible, and having fun in the process! From what he had been told being a child didn't last long, and once it was gone you could not get all the fun of childhood back! So, Shawn O' Conner made the most of every moment!
He then went to talk to the captain and the ships Intel officer, who was kind of...cool, for a girl. The whole situation with finding a Borg on that alian shuttlecraft... What fun! Soon the conversation died down, and Shawn went back to his seat across from Lieutenant Mishtak. His wonderful Klingon pal!
"Well, if you're not going to tell me when you're gonna marry Ensign Harper, how about we go to your quarters and you can show me all the weapons you got in there!"
How did Shaw know? Well, Sharpay was not the only good hacker on the Orion. There was also Lieutenant Denali, and of course himself. So yes, he had got into who brought what aboard. Aside from that Mishtak was Klingon; did Klingons usually leave all their survival weapons at home? No. The majority of them were sacred anyhow!
"When did you perform kut'luch? Don't it signify when a Klingon becomes a warrior?"
Shawn stopped and thought for a moment before turning the conversation. "If not Ensign Harper what about Lieutenant Xena?"

“We may find something that will spark some interest”
"That's the spirit!" La'Mara stated enthusiastically. She headed for the large doors which swooshed open when she arrived at them. This was going to be great! While waiting for Elise to join her so they could walk together La'Mara watched at Shawn went back over to Lieutenant Mishtak and started asking questions again.
It was very hard not to laugh! Captain Tiho ended up laughing real hard on the inside; hence the big smile on her face. Calm down...calm down...you're a captain now... "Ready?" La'Mara asked looking at Elise now.

"Well, if you're not going to tell me when you're gonna marry Ensign Harper, how about we go to your quarters and you can show me all the weapons you got in there!"
Mishtak wasn't sure he wanted to ask the boy ho he had learned of that, beside it was probably common knowledge on this ship the amount of weapons he had in his quarters.
"You are not old enough for anything in my quarters, perhaps when you have grown up a bit we can revisit that question."
"When did you perform kut'luch? Don't it signify when a Klingon becomes a warrior?"
He was impressed by the boy attempt to understand Klingon culture, even if he was a bit off on what was what.
"A kut'luch is a type of knife favored by assassins of the old days and is rarely used for anything other than display these days. The Right of Ascension you are referring to is supposed to take place before a future warrior is thirteen years old, I completed the ritual when I was eleven. I also completed it again nine years after that, when I was twenty. Why is it you have taken the time to attempt to learn about Klingon customs?"
The boy was starting to peak Mishtak's curiosity...
"If not Ensign Harper what about Lieutenant Xena?"
Mishtak almost choked on his juice.
"The Lieutenant is a fine officer and I could not ask for a better right hand in the security department. I have never thought of her as a possible mate because of our working relationship we are simply friends. I will say this, if she were a Klingon she would be a perfect match for several prominent members of the High Council."
He leaned back in his seat and studied the boy further before continuing.
"Why this sudden interest in the personal lives of the crew anyway? Run out of things to do in your free time or did Xena finally find a way to get you to stop following her around?"

"You are not old enough for anything in my quarters, perhaps when you have grown up a bit we can revisit that question."
Shawn raised an index finger in the air as he readjusted his posture to sit up nice and straight. He then did his very best mother impersonation. "Age is simply a state of mind. You're only as young as you feel. Or think you are." Shawn was grinning ear to ear. When finished he slouched back into the chair. "Or so my mom says."
"Why have I taken the time?!" Shawn echoed the final part of the question with a somewhat surprised voice and expression upon his face. That was one crazy question! "That's like asking a Ferengi if he would like to make more profit than he has already commissioned!"
"Everyone knows that Klingons are one of the coolest races in the galaxy. Besides, I have a test to study for." Shawn added with a light shrug to his shoulders. Both statements were true. Though something said Mishtak might not want to be classified as 'cool'. Especially by him. Shawn caused security so much trouble, but he did have to admit that he did help keep them on their toes, too.
"Why this sudden interest in the personal lives of the crew anyway? Run out of things to do in your free time or did Xena finally find a way to get you to stop following her around?"
"No." The young boy replied with a shake of his head. "Just thought it might be fun to make things more interesting. I mean, you got to be tired of the same old thing from me everyday, right? And, well..." Shawn began scratching the top of his head.
"Lieutenant Xena said if I could stay out of trouble for one day she'd run a holodeck program with me, and that she'd consider asking you if it'd be alright if I could do some security training." Shawn shrugged again. "I guess she figures I need a way to express my skills other than playing pranks."

"Age is simply a state of mind. You're only as young as you feel. Or think you are. Or so my mom says."
Mishtak thought about that statement for a moment.
"I suppose your mother is right, to a certain extent. There are somethings, however, that require more size of age then the actual age."
"Why have I taken the time?! That's like asking a Ferengi if he would like to make more profit than he has already commissioned!"
"Everyone knows that Klingons are one of the coolest races in the galaxy. Besides, I have a test to study for."
"Cool? I suppose to one such as yourself you would find us Klingons 'cool'..."
He stopped to think a moment, he didn't want to come right out and call the boy a thorn in his side, but that is what he had been most days. If not to him and security then to Sharpay and engineering...
"This test you have, what exactly is it on?"
"No." "Just thought it might be fun to make things more interesting. I mean, you got to be tired of the same old thing from me everyday, right? And, well..."
It was true that this was a nice change from the boys normal behavior, and Mishtak was not feeling a hundred percent himself yet either.
"I admit, the break is much needed, although I do wonder what plan you are devising in that head of yours that will inevitably give me another headache."
"Lieutenant Xena said if I could stay out of trouble for one day she'd run a holodeck program with me, and that she'd consider asking you if it'd be alright if I could do some security training. I guess she figures I need a way to express my skills other than playing pranks."
"So you do have ulterior motives for this change in behavior."
Mishtak almost smirked, he liked the idea of Shawn staying out of trouble and it seemed that Lt. Xena had taken a special interest in the boy. Perhaps this friendship would do them both some good in the long run.
"If, and this is a very large IF here. If you manage to stay out of trouble for the day and Lt. Xena does run this program with you. Should she ask for my permission to put you to work in our department, I will okay it. Your aptitude has mostly been for pranks and security breeches, it might not be such a bad idea to put that brain of yours to a good use and have you locate weak points in our systems and perhaps Sharpay will even let you help her re-program some things."
Mishtak leaned back in his chair and took another sip of his drink
"Just keep in mind, that should you become a liability or a problem you will spend the rest of this voyage in the brig under armed watch at all times, do we have an understanding?"
Mishtak wouldn't really keep the boy locked up in such a manner, but he was hoping that Shawn wouldn't realize that right away.
