Are there any SG fans here? I like the movie, SG-1, and Atlantis. I'm also looking forward to both SG-1 movies, but Continuum more so due to the return of Richard Dean-Anderson as "General O'Neill," and the classic SG-1 feel that the movie is reported to have.

I'll give you the lowdown incase you want to start watching again. First, here's a timeline.
1994: Stargate (1996 according to SG-1) 1997-98: SG-1 Season 1 1998-99: SG-1 Season 2 1999-00: SG-1 Season 3 2000-01: SG-1 Season 4 2001-02: SG-1 Season 5 2002-03: SG-1 Season 6 2003-04: SG-1 Season 7 2004-05: SG-1 Season 8 / Atlantis Season 1 2005-06: SG-1 Season 9 / Atlantis Season 2 2006-07: SG-1 Season 10 / Atlantis Season 3 2007: The Ark of Truth / Continuum 2007-08: Atlantis Season 4
Stargate is a 1994 movie featuring Kurt Russel (Col. O'Neil) and James Spader (Dr. Jackson) who travel through the Stargate (big metal ring) to another planet with a similar Stargate. SG-1 began in 1997 refering the events of the movie as happening one year ago. There were some minor changes since this was a new production team working on the show. Some sets look different, the Stargate opperates a little differently, some actors were recast, but the only major change was reimaging Ra as a snake-like alien instead of a man-like alien and revealing that he was not the last of his species as the people in the movie had thought. Rememeber, they were going on cave drawings. Anyway, the show was more or less episodic with three major story arcs: the war against the Goa'uld, the Replicators (insect-like robots) who'd pop up once or twice a year, and then the search for the Ancients, the builders of the Stargates. The show is more or less easy to follow for the first seven years, because most tight story arcs were merely two or three episodes in a row or a follow up episode that would catch you up to speed with a "previously, on SG-1 clip" or dialogue within the episode. Season 8 is where the show got complicated, but there's a reason: it was ment to be the show's final season. It was a year of climax. It's probably the worst year to start watching as a new viewer. After that, the show had to start fresh, because the network wanted it to continue. The Goa'uld, Replicator, and Ancient plots were more or less resolved, so it was time bring on the Ori, evil Ancients. They also kept around one Goa'uld bad guy so it wasn't a total clean slate. The last two years are very serialized compared to previous years, so it's best to see the final two years on DVD instead of random reruns on TV. The show ended after ten years. There was some resolution in the final two episodes, but not completely as the show was cancelled at the last minute. It will get proper resolution with two movies. The Ark of Truth will resolve the Ori story, Continuum will resolve the last Goa'uld bad guy. Now onto Atlantis...
In SG-1's Season 6 finale, the team learned of the Lost City of the Ancients. They looked for it at the start of Season 7, but it lead to a dead end. In the Season 7 finale, the searched once more, and this time they found it or rather... they found an Ancient outpost. As the eigth year of SG-1 began, a member of SG-1 found the coordinate of Atlantis in another galaxy. An expedition was sent off to the Pegasus Galaxy to find Atlantis.
SG-1 and Atlantis aired at the same time for three years meaning SG-1 Seasons 8-10 take place durring Atlantis Seasons 1-3. The two SG-1 movies were filmed before production began on Atlantis's fourth season. While they're coming out in 2008 after Atlantis Season 4 ends, they're set in 2007 after SG-1 ended, between Atlantis Seasons 3 & 4.
Any questions? ;D

I'm a Huge fan of the movie. Despite this however (or perhaps because of it) I was never really able to get into the shows.

Hallo thar fellow Stargate fan!
I love Ba'al and Jack. Ba'al is mine, all mine. *runs circles till gets smakced on the head by Ba'al out of his annoyance- bleep. Good show! I reckon they could get away with a few more seasons thanks to the Ba'alness of it all. Seriously!

Ah...
Atlantis I never really bought into. It's just the whole Goa'uld big bad guy plot again in effect... Yet many prefer Atlantis... Perhaps that just because of the characters and the emphasis. I still much prefer SG-1. Much more my style. Besides, Ba'al baby.
