Kirk or Picard?

For so long it's been a wide debate over which is the better captain, who do you think is and why?

Out of this poll I like Kirk. He knows when to talk and when to fire. He's also a great fighter in hand to hand...even in his old age. Just watch one of the movies. He can also bluff way better than Picard.

It's like comparing John Wayne to Humphrey Bogart.

I Like most of the Captain's... except for Archer maybe...

but yes, Kirk was a Wayne type. He knew and understood completely what being a Captain was about, and not just the ladies either. To Captain a chair, one must be prepared to take a little risk alongside.

Perhaps we know why Q had so much fun with Jean-Luc. So much fun. We need a Q xD

The Q even thought highly of Kirk. We find that out in "Q2" a Voyager episode.

Totally. Now if this were a poll that had all the captains in it I would go with Janeway.

Picard wholeheartedly. Though it wasn't shown much in the episodes, he had two sides to him. Personally, Kirk to me had two moods: sarcastic captain and ladies man. Picard's first rule was to never be involved with the crew emotionally so to speak, like not really worry about their problems. That was what Deanna and Will were for. But you saw his other side in the episode with that one chick that he liked.

But, I also agree with Sharpay on that Janeway was the best. Hands down, no questions asked.

sophisticated in your opinion. More like dry. Just because you think he's sophisticated don't mean he's a better captain...just mean we see 20 minutes of talk instead of 20 minutes of Battle. We never got to see what his ship had or could do cause the ships he came up were either no match or they just chatted away. It'd would have been nice to see what that ship could do. Unfortunately it's the little ships that see good battle and come out victorious.

I didn't mean Picard was a more sophisticated character. He simply appeals more to an academic, dreaming intellectual like me. The explorer spirit he has, with his thoughtful reflection on things, is just wonderful.
