History/Background/Education
The son of Commodore Rupert Ashbury, commander of Deep Space Four at the time of his birth, Arthur Ashbury was born into a family with a long Starfleet tradition. As the oldest son in the family, he was brought up to become a Starfleet Command Officer. Growing up on a Deep Space Station, he occasionally assisted his father in his command duties on the station, proving to be a high-potential officer. When he entered the Academy at 17, he showed considerable skill at his command classes already. He also studied Science classes, though he was not extraordinarily good at them.
First assigned as a Science Officer of the USS Apollo, a smaller Science-oriented vessel, he soon moved on to become Assistant Chief Science Officer aboard the exploration vessel USS Kirk. However adventurous the life on a starship was, it was still his ambition to follow in his father's footsteps aboard a Deep Space station. When the opportunity presented itself about 6 years ago, Ashbury applied for a transfer to become Science Officer on Deep Space Three. Showing his skills in command, he was soon promoted to become Executive Officer.
Delta One is Art's debut as Commanding Officer. He was specifically selected for his sociable and adventurous attitude by Starfleet Command for the new project, and has gathered a crew for the station in preparation for the mission.
It does not need to be super long or very complex.
Personality Profile:
Commander Ashbury is cheerful, adventurous and casual. He has a good sense of humour and likes to joke around. Not one for very hierarchical and protocol-based relationships with those serving under him, Art would rather base his command on friendship and respect than derive it from his formal commission. He is very approachable and can sometimes be found in the Common Room or the Portal Inn, speaking to his fellow officers and civilians. His command style can be described as casual, friendly and collegial.
If one describes Arthur as adventurous, one doesn't just mean that he is curious and likes his assignment to deep space. In fact, that's the good part of the story, for Delta One's Commanding Officer is not a cautious man: he is often reckless and daring, and enjoys taking calculated risks every now and then. While not going so far as disobeying orders, he can be counted on to speak his opinion when he disagrees with a decision.
Arthur can be relied upon to keep the crew of his pioneering station busy with the fresh ideas of himself and his senior staff, and is much seen in their implementation, often making rounds of the station to see how they are doing instead of confining himself to Ops. Occasionally, he even helps out where he can in keeping the station running.
In personal relationships, he is a very loyal friend but his overenthusiastic nature may lead him to talk a bit too much. He confides in his best friends and lets them confide in him, valuing friendship above almost everything else in the galaxy. Although he is a charming man, as far as romance is concerned he has not found his partner yet and is satisfied with being single (as in not actively looking around for a partner but having the occasional date until he is sure he has found his lifelong partner).

Role-Play Sample:
"You're going to do what?" exclaimed Art incredulously, pacing around his quarters on Deep Space Three. The Lieutenant-Commander, Executive Officer of the Station, had just received a visit from a Starfleet Admiral asking him to take command of a new venture. Of course, he couldn't refuse the opportunity to work there, but the implications were quite staggering.
Admiral Janeway sipped at her coffee and smiled at the younger officer. The legendary Captain of Voyager, now getting on in years, had taken an interest in the further exploration of the Delta Quadrant, personally speaking with many of those involved. For this next step, it was thus not surprising that she was the one to recruit a Station Commander for Delta One. "Building a station," she repeated. "An outpost in the final frontier. I can personally recommend it to you: the Delta Quadrant is quite an adventure." She chuckled lightly at her last remark.
Art, too, chuckled. "So let me get this straight: you are asking a 34-year old Lieutenant-Commander to command an important pioneering operation?" He wanted to know why he was first on the Admiral's shortlist. The Admiral nodded. "We need some fresh ideas," she explained. "But of course, if you think you aren't..."
"Oh no, ma'am" said Art, interrupting. "I never said I wasn't available. In fact, it sounds extremely interesting." Admiral Janeway probably already knew that: they had spoken an hour or so about the Delta Quadrant before getting to the point. The adventures of Voyager were well-known, but to hear them first-hand from her Commanding Officer herself was a special treat Art wasn't prepared to pass up. Nor, for that matter, was he prepared to pass on this assignment.
"Excellent," said Janeway with a smile. "Then on behalf of Starfleet Command, I hereby grant you, Arthur William Ashbury, commission as a full Commander, coming with all the duties and privileges of that rank, and appoint you to the Command of Deep Space Station Delta One." She took from her pocket a rank pip and pinned it on Art's collar. "Congratulations, Commander. Now, to work: I suggest you say your goodbyes and select a good crew. You'll need one." Thanking the Admiral and shaking hands with her, Commander Ashbury assured her that would be no problem.
He was going to the very definition of the Final Frontier, and couldn't wait to get stuck in. Alright, Art. Let's boldly go where no man has gone before.
