Arriving at the holodeck doors on deck six, Zack went over to the wall panel, and tapped a couple of buttons. The list scrolled slowly. I know you're in here. After about two minutes Zack exclaimed: "Ah ha! Try and hide from me..."
He then looked to Miss Rose, and realized how stupid he must have looked and or sounded. Zack did have a tendency to talk to the ship and all that when he was working. Not exactly the most uncommon thing in science departments, but it could be a little embarrassing when displayed. "Sorry Miss Rose."
Zack activated the program which contained at first glance, a parking lot with awesome 50s cars. They were parked outside a joint which inside contained a piano, with a place for a very small band, a bar...well okay not a bar as only ice cream, sodas, and burgers were served. Teen hang out. There was also a dance floor for those brave enough to sock hop.
Rock music filled the entire place.
"After you."

Rose looked over Zack's shoulder as he scrolled through the list of holodeck programmes on the wall panel. He was actually talking to the computer, or the programme, or whatever it is. Alternatively, he could just have used voice command. The programme in question described as '50s'. Undoubtedly because he noticed her looking over his shoulder as he spoke to the computer, Zack turned embarrassed and apologised. "No problem," she said casually.
Rose entered the holodeck and looked around at the scenery, which looked like mid-20th century Earth. The 50s. A lot of charming cars were parked on the parking lot around a small joint. In his usual gentlemanly way, Zack let her enter first. As she did so, she looked over her shoulder and smiled at him. When she entered, she saw a bar which served soda, ice cream and burgers, a piano, a band and a dance floor. Rock music filled the entire place. It was a bit loud but she decided not to complain.
"The things you can do with a holodeck..." she said. "Do you run this programme often?"

"Not a whole lot." Zack admitted as he stepped inside. "I usually run grease monkey, or a racing program of the sorts. Seeing how most uh...young ladies are not into getting greasy working on cars or get pumped up at extremely high speed velocities that might result in an explosion if not handled correctly I thought this would be more suitable. Besides, it's the only program that is cool that has a piano, which you said you like to play..."
Zack cleared his throat. "Let's go inside."
As he was leading the way some dude in a 1957 Chevy convertible came speeding through the parking lot, almost running Zack over. A few holographic characters before hand had to get out of the way. "Watch it bud!" Zack couldn't help but shout slightly irritated, with a wave of his hand. "And they always said to watch out for women drivers."
Zack turned to Rose. "Are you alright?"

Stereotypical boy activities, thought Rose as she considered Zack's usual holodeck programming. Good that he isn't taking me along. It sounds like typical boyish show-off to me. This programme seems nice though. She smiled at Zack as she entered. "That's very nice of you," she said, thanking her new friend. "It looks wonderful."
Then Zack was almost ran over by a car. Rose started back with a shock, reaching out to pull Zack out of the way. "What was..." she began, but Zack didn't mind as he shouted at the driver, making a snide remark about women drivers. "I hope you're not that prejudiced," said Rose jokingly as they recovered and turned into the joint.
When the music became a bit loud, Zack asked if she was alright. Apparently, he had noticed that she thought the music was too loud. "Oh, it's just the loud music," she said, then smiled. "But I'm fine, really."

"That was a jerk in a very cool car." Zack said, replying to the almost question. Or at least what he thought was going to be a question. Sentences that generally started with the word 'what' came with a question mark at the end, and knowing that unless one was interested in this time period they'd not know much about it. "Oh, no I don't think that. Why would..." Zack mentally hit himself over the head.
Why did he make that comment? Maybe a history lesson was in order. "When cars were first invented Miss Rose, only men used them. Driving was considered a mans job as to start the first cars you had to use the crank in the front. When automatic steering, and self starting cars," Zack moved his hand as if he were starting up a car with a key. They didn't have voice activation then. "came out that's when women started to use them."
Would that bring it home? Hopefully. Zack opened the door for Miss Rose to go through. "Sorry about that. I suppose I could unplug the jukebox." Wait a minute... "Computer, lower music level by... five percent."

Even though she found social history, even that of Earth, fascinating, Rose felt like she was being lectured at by Zack and she didn't like it. "Well, it's different now, isn't it?"she asked him, trying not to appear annoyed. "Everything is," she sounded more fascinated now. "I mean, we fly starships. Not that I'm that good at it. I'm sure I'd mess things up. Leave er... things like that to Lieutenant Ackron." During that last part of her comment, she was sincerely unsure of herself again.
Rose was grateful when Zack turned down the music. "Thanks," she said, smiling. "Shall we dance now? I feel like dancing." She realised not quite in time that she didn't know the particular dances of the 50s. Didn't matter. She had a cool, gallant young man to teach her the moves. "You'll have to teach me, though," she said, smiling sweetly at him.

"Well, it's different now, isn't it?""We have come along way if that's what you mean." Zack said. He couldn't help but wonder though if he had said something wrong. It would not be the first time. Women could be quite unpredictable; sad one minute then happy the next. Or they could have all the emotions at the same time. And there she goes putting herself down again... "I'm sure you'd be good at piloting, if that is something you really wanted to do and had an interest in." Zack tried to encourage. "Shall we dance now? I feel like dancing." "Dance?" That was unexpected. Zack started to rub the back of his neck. Well... "You'll have to teach me, though,""Alright. But I think a change of wardrobe is in order." If you were going to get into it, then dive fully in! Zack ordered the computer to dress them in the proper clothes. That in turn led Miss Rose to be in a white sweater, dark pink skirt, black belt, and saddle shoes along with a light pink sweater to go over the shirt. It defiantly suites her...Zack wound up in a white t-nuts, blue jeans, and a black leather jacket. Now they were ready. "The dances are very simple." Zack went over to the jukebox and selected the song The Twist by an artist named Chubby Checker. He then walked back over to Rose, took her by the hand, and lead her to the floor as the song started up. "This song, like most, the dance goes with the words. And you might want to kick off your shoes." "Twist." Zack started dancing. Of course Zack planned to amp up the dance by maybe picking Rose up and swinging her side to side or turn around, latch arms and flip her over his back or something. Moves like that were seen in two musicals that Zack had sat through. One was Grease; prom scene. The other was Hairspray on the Corney Collins show; last dance scene! Tag: Rose

Rose decided for herself that Zack might be right on the matter of her piloting, although she wasn't much confident. Just lucky I don't need to be confident, as it is not one of my duties.
When she asked him to dance, he seemed genuinely surprised, embarrassed even, rubbing the back of his neck, which surprised Rose. He said it was alright though, then changed her clothes to a proper 50s outfit in pink. Rose smiled. "Nice," she said. Although a bit more old-fashioned than what I usually wear.
Zack did look cool and just a little bit handsome in his new outfit. Rose decided to compliment him on it. "You look great," she said.
Then they started dancing on a song that came out of the jukebox, known as the Twist. Rose clumsily tried to copy the moves from the music, but she almost tripped over her feet a few times. I guess I'm not a great dancer, she thought, although reminding herself of the few times she'd practiced ancient dances like the waltz. It does swing, though.
Slowly but certainly, Rose got better, although she still stayed close to Zack just in case she lost her balance again. He could catch her then.

"You look great,"
Zack wasn't exactly used to being complimented on his attire. The clothing he choose was kinda the classic style. Really, when it came to clothes and what to put on besides a uniform (when it mattered) his sister generally helped him out when he wanted things to look nice. Zack, on his own fell into the category of guys that said: I'll wear whatever is clean.
"Thanks Miss Rose, but I don't think I'd be the one to win the title 'beauty queen'." Enough on that. Hopefully Zack would not have to break down what he meant when he said that. It would sort of be a bit embarrassing.
Whoa! Zack reached out, and grabbed Roses' hand, and as not to make her feel embarrassed about the fall or almost fall, Zack twirled her, locked arms, and flipped her over his back. No. He didn't notice at all. Just part of the dance.

(OOC: I'll assume Zack's remark was intended as an indirect compliment on Rose's appearance, okay?)
Rose wasn't used to being complimented on her attire either, as she felt she was, indirectly, by Zack's comment. Although I wish he'd stop calling me Miss Rose, she thought. It makes me feel rather old. Even "Rosemary" might be better. She turned just a little pink, and then the dance started.
Rose was glad that when she nearly lost her balance, Zack was there to take her hand and catch her. She smiled at him when he did that, grateful for the help. Rose was beginning to rather like it, especially the embellishments Zack added.
When the music stopped, she was out of breath, but she recovered fast. "That was fun," she said to Zack with enthusiasm. "Let's sit down somewhere now... I'm just a bit tired."

(OOC: You assume correctly.)
When the dance was over, Zack too was just a tad out of breath. It felt a bit unusual to feel ever a little out of breath for Zack. Guess I should start up long distance track again. However, the holographic characters of teens and young adults were clapping. It was one of two things; applause for the music, as everyone seemed to clap when they finished dancing, or he and Rose had been in the spotlight and not known it. Didn't really matter did it?
"That was fun,"
"I suppose it was A one." Zack replied with a smile. "Honestly though I don't exactly dance much. But I'm glad you had fun." That was why he had brought her here; to have fun and relax. So far it was a success. Then again who wouldn't have fun or be relaxed in a place like this?
"Let's sit down somewhere now... I'm just a bit tired."
"Oh. Of course." Zack looked to his left then to his right. "Stools or a booth?"

Rose was quite surprised when Zack admitted that he did not dance much."Really?" she asked, quite surprised and intending it as a genuine compliment. "I could've sworn you were a pro!" Then, somewhat more timid as she spoke about herself, she related: "Me, I just kept tripping over my own feet." She was quite embarrassed with that: perhaps she'd never be a good dancer.
When Zack asked her about stools or a booth, Rose stopped to think. She honestly didn't know much about the choices, so she decided to leave the decision to her cool and more experienced companion. "Your choice," she said with a smile, before following him.

A pro? Seriously? "I suppose I have my mother to thank for that then." Well, it pretty much was the truth. She had been the one that put him in dance class. Zack never thought it would pay off, but he hadn't exactly been expecting to be dancing in a holodeck on a starship with a young lady at that time. Then his problem was trying to get through everything without the guys teasing him. Actually, come to think of it, that problem was solved rather quickly. Seeing as how some of those guys were having trouble meeting girls, what better thing to do than to enroll in a class inhabited by them?
"Me, I just kept tripping over my own feet."
Zack picked up on the change of tone in her voice. "Really? You must have done it rather gracefully then." Dude! That sounded way lame!
"Personally I prefer the stools." Zack led the way over, then to his surprise, and probably hers, he lifted Rose up by the waist and sat her on the stool before putting his right foot on the metal ring below, and hopping up. They were a bit of a ways off the floor. Well you sat higher than in a booth as that was like regular chair height. "Would you like something to eat?"
Though the cooks and the waitresses and such were holographic, this was one program where you could eat real or holographic food. Granted they came from the mess hall, but all they had there were drinks. The smell of burgers, fries, malts, etc. etc. were quite mouth watering. Besides, any active activity also tended to make people at least a little hungry.

"Your mother?" Rose wondered aloud with a chuckle. "Please, you're taking too little credit! You're really good." She smiled reassuringly. At his remark over her 'grace', she couldn't help but blush and brush the comments away. "You really think so?" she asked, and he could hear that she wasn't convinced herself.
They walked over to the stool. Rose was about to sit on one when in a sudden motion, Zack lifted her off the ground and placed her on one. For that split second, she did not know whether she'd protest ("Hey! Put me down!") or (to her surprise) swoon over how sweet and gentlemanly Zack was. She settled on the latter. "Thanks," she said sweetly, blushing. "You're a real gentleman."
He offered her something to eat. Rose thought about it. "What do you suggest?" she asked. "I don't want to put on too much weight, mind you," she decided to add. I wonder if he will understand. Boys never really do.

Taking too little credit? "No disrespect intended Miss Rose, but you're a fine one to talk, about taking too little credit." Zack told her with a calm tone of voice. He had been in Astrometrics with her when they were sorting what was what. Also, both working in science... Of course, after Zack had said what he did, he sort of wished he could take it back. It was just possible that he had unintentionally upset her.
"You really think so?"
"The are three ways to trip; with grace, with style, or clumsily. Seeing as this was your first twist I say it was with grace. And as dancing goes I do owe my mother the credit." Zack lowly whispered, after pointlessly looking around; "She put me in dance class."
Zack sort of dismissed the gentleman comment or compliment.
She then asked him what he suggested food wise. Zack started to think, but was interrupted.
"I don't want to put on too much weight, mind you,"
He looked at Rose. "Why? You're h-" Scratch that... "You look- I mean-" What do I mean? Zack placed his hands on the counter in front of him; and looked at them. Hmm... Zack cleared his throat. "I don't think you have anything to worry about." Zack finally managed to say, a bit on the quiet side. "Hey Henry!" Zack waved a hand. "Would you mind fetchin' a menu?"
A slightly overweight man in a white apron, and white hat answered; "You wants I should fetch ya a menu? What do I look like? A retriever?"
Zack shook his head no. "Yous looks likes an employee of this heres joint."
Henry muttered a bit and brought a menu. "Yous happy now?" Henry then went back to the back.
"Thanks Henry!" Zack handed the square, red laminated menu to Rose. "There's writing on both sides. Just about everything costs a dime or a nickel." Zack said as he reached inside of his pocket. "I like the triple decker burger with everything, cheese fries, cherry soda, and a Pepsi, but that's just me. You might like a chocolate soda or nachos."
