[Fin] First offical security of the ship. {Open}

Looking at the PaDD in his hand S'Louk was heading along deck 13 looking for his qaurters. Arriving at the designated room, he walked in and began setting everything up. When it was all ready, he dimmed the lights and began to meditate. After a few hours an alarm beeped alerting him that his shift was about to begin. Cupping the flame from the candle, he blew it out and left the room. According to his PaDD his orders were to patrol the jefferie tubes on this deck and make sure that there were no unautherized personal in there. Entering the first one, he pulled out his tricorder which steadly becan beeping. He was picking up two life signs. His own and someone elses. Moving up the coridor he pulled out his Phaser and said in his usal emtionless voice "I warn you I am armed. Please identify yourself."

Sharpay had gotten to deck 13 as quick as possible. She got inside the tube and crawled along to where the malfunctioning gel pack was located, only she did not exactly get a chance to reach the location as she heard a noise or thought she did. Ensign Harper was about to go on when she heard a voice.

"I warn you I am armed. Please identify yourself."

"So I'm not alone after all." Shar muttered to herself. "It's Ensign Harper, your everyday friendly acting chief engineer." Ensign Harper replied as she decided to crawl toward the voice...just to see who it belonged to. "I'm coming your way." Hopefully that would deter any phaser fire. As Sharpay got closer she saw that it was one of theirs; a cadet.

"Cadet S'Louk. What are you doing here?"

"It's Ensign Harper, your everyday friendly acting chief engineer. I'm coming your way."

Upon hearing that he set PHASer back on stun, stowed it away on his belt and began crawing toward the voice. When the two met in the middle he was greeted by the sight of a young women clad in the same yellowy gold as him. But she had already announced herself as the chief engineer.

"Cadet S'Louk. What are you doing here?"

"My aplogies ma'am I was simply doing my duty." As he said that he pulled his PaDD out of his pocket and showed her the orders. "And I wouldn't be doing my duty if I didn't as you what you were doing here." That was S'Louk. Following his orders down to the letter.

Sharpay took the PADD he had taken out to show her. She looked down at it, scrolling through carefully as she skimmed through the words. "No apologies required, cadet." Sharpay said handing the PADD back to him. "It's good to see you aren't taking your duties lightly." Shar commended. Some cadets just did surface work, not giving things there all. "Would you like to come with me the rest of the way? The damaged gel pack I came to fix seems to be on one of your routes."

"No apologies required, cadet. It's good to see you aren't taking your duties lightly."

If S'Louk had been human he might have felt pride at being commended by a superior officer. But being Vulcan he felt no such feeling. Instead he just said, "Thank you Ma'am."

"Would you like to come with me the rest of the way? The damaged gel pack I came to fix seems to be on one of your routes."

"That would be the logical thing thing to Ma'am." As the two of them began crawling along the Jeffrie tube asked her "According to the crew roster Ma'am, you are listed as an Engineer. May I ask why you announced yourself to me as the Chief Engineer?"

Well, Shar couldn't say she was not expecting the question. "Acting chief," Sharpay corrected as she stopped as they had reached the section. Sitting Ensign Harper opened the engineering kit. "I have been in charge of engineering since we lost our first chief engineer." Sharpay used a tool to open up the panel. "I suppose for a moment I just forgot that before we got our new captain we got a new chief."

Sharpay now put the tool down, and the side panel next to it as she took out the tricorder and began scanning. "Haven't personally met him yet, but I hear that he can be a real bear." Huh... Putting the tricorder away Ensign Harper picked up another tool. "Would you mind holding this for just a second?" She'd need a moment to get the new gel pack ready.

"Acting chief. I have been in charge of engineering since we lost our first chief engineer. I suppose for a moment I just forgot that before we got our new captain we got a new chief."

"understandable. I am yet to meet the rest of the crew. However I am sure that I shall meet at some point during the mission. Most likely during some uncomfortable crew gathering." S'Louk disliked human gatherings. During most of them he spent the time sitting in the corner reading. He found them to be a waste of time.

By now they had reached the section of the damaged gel pack and Ensign Harper had becan her repairs.

"Would you mind holding this for just a second?"

"Of course. Is there a problem?" He asked

Uncomfortable crew gathering... Sharpay repeated in her mind. There was once a time when she found crew gathering to be uncomfortable, sometimes they still were. Of course the most interesting one had to be when she had met Mishtak's family. Seemed like there was a never ending battle of all sorts. Ho hum.

"I'm sure you'll get used to crew gatherings if we have them on a regular basis." Sharpay took out the damaged gel pack. She looked at the Vulcan. "If I could tolerate them, and eventually get used to I'm quite sure you'll be able to as well. Practice makes perfect."

Sharpay smiled.

"Of course. Is there a problem?"

"No. I just needed an extra hand for a moment." Shar said as she took the tool, used it then put it away. "Thanks." Shar could now install the new pack. "So, what do you like to do? Since you find crew gatherings uncomfortable..."

"I'm sure you'll get used to crew gatherings if we have them on a regular basis. If I could tolerate them, and eventually get used to I'm quite sure you'll be able to as well. Practice makes perfect."

Practise makes perfect. S'Louk repeated that phrase over in his mind. A human saying. S'Louk knew enough of them. "Indeed. I believe that I may be able to learn to tolerate them. However I don't think that I will be ever be able get used to them."

"So, what do you like to do? Since you find crew gatherings uncomfortable..."

"I prefer to be left in solitude. To read or prehaps mediate. I prefer to be in the Company of other Vulcans, but as far I am aware there are currently no other Vulcans currently on the ship."

Well, Vulcans will be Vulcans... Shar thought as she went to finished up the task at hand. After the gel pack was fully functional Ensign Harper would have to run a diagnostic on the one that malfunctioned. The gel packs could be tricky little things. They had to be the first of a ship system to ever be able to catch a cold!

"I prefer to be left in solitude. To read or perhaps mediate. I prefer to be in the Company of other Vulcans, but as far I am aware there are currently no other Vulcans currently on the ship."

"Actually, if I'm not mistaken there is another on board." Ensign Harper though for a moment. "Commander Suroc, ships counselor. You might want to hit him up sometime."

S'Louk watched with great intreast as Sharpay went to work on the damaged gel pack.

"Actually, if I'm not mistaken there is another on board. Commander Suroc, ships counselor. You might want to hit him up sometime."

"Hit him up." S'Louk thought for a moment before finaly saying "I'm afraid I've never heard that expression before. However I shall try to meet him if that is what you mean"

The confusion rang loud and clear. Maybe the words 'hit him up' had been a bad choice. If a person took that literally, chaos might break loose, in one way or another. It finally came out that he did not understand. That was known though with the first three words; which had been a repeat.

"I suppose meet is one way to put it." Sharpay said thoughtfully as she finished up her task.

"Something tells me there are a lot of Human expressions you haven't heard before." Sharpay said, putting the case back up. "If you like, I could try and find a book of Human slang and meanings for you to read; that way you'll be less likely to misunderstand what some of the officers are saying. Who knows, might even help in the social situations when we have crew gatherings." Sharpay said with a smile.

Her engineering task now finished, Ensign Harper started putting the tools back into the case.

If you like, I could try and find a book of Human slang and meanings for you to read; that way you'll be less likely to misunderstand what some of the officers are saying. Who knows, might even help in the social situations when we have crew gatherings."

"That would be..... logical." After a few moments of quiet complentation he said "However I believe the human expression used in moments like this would be...thank you" There was something S'Louk rarely said.

Watching Ensign Harper begin to pack away her tools, he said "I am to take it that we are finished here Ma'am. If we are then, by your authorisation, I would like to take my leave." He stood up and awaited her replie.

I guess logical could be a way to put it. Sharpay thought as everything was now packed away. She was quite unprepared for the 'thank you' that came a few moment later. "You're welcome." Shar replied with a kind smile. Generally Sharpay didn't offer to do things for others too often, and usually didn't show herself this friendly. However, things had gone quite well; both with work and chit chat. So she was in a pretty good mood right now.

"I am to take it that we are finished here Ma'am. If we are then, by your authorization, I would like to take my leave."

"By all means." Sharpay said giving somewhat of a salute. It was a tight squeeze in these tubes...unless of course you were a child. After giving permission, Sharpay went in the other direction. She wanted to check a relay that was close to the exit, just in case so she would not have to jett back here. So along she crawled, checked it out, then left through the other hatch.

"By all means."

Sharpay gave him a salute of sorts, the best she could give in the confined space. Instead of giving the traditional Starfleet salute, he instead seperated his fingers and said, "Live long and prosper, Ensign." As she went in the one direction, S'Louk went in the other direction. He had a quiet thought to himself. He felt he had found a..... friend.
