Lilly now was in the hydroponics bay. It was one of her favorite places on the ship. It was a quiet and beautiful place. The hydroponics bay was also the only place on the ship where you could find a beetle. Even they were pretty with light speckled colors on their back. Right now Lilly was categorizing the plants they had. Later she'd take a few vegetables to the chef in the mess hall; after of course calling to see what ones their chef would like to have.

While Lilly was going about her work she suddenly fell to the ground, along with a few plants that fell off the shelf. Not good! What was happening?! Well, whatever it was seemed to have stopped, and thankfully Lilly had not gotten hurt. The young girl picked herself up, dusted herself off then began picking up the lovely life that had fallen.
If it was possible to be restored she did so. Most she could. The uncountable made harvest come a little early. It was not too big of a deal. Lilly brushed the dirt from her hands and put a few of the spawn beetles back on the plants. She then began the task all over again as things had changed.

The doors to the hydroponics bay opens and in walks a Vulcan. He tall and seeming young but not that young. He is carrying a notepad. he looks around and then sees Lillian and walks over to her. As per typical Vulcan he has no emotion on his face but seems friendly, or as friendly as a Vulcan can look. He also looked nearly identical to a young Spock.
"Lillian Daniels I presume? I am Councilor Suroc and I would have a moment of your time if you are...feeling up to it." The word feeling, feelings seems an almost foreign thing to him. He was trying to come off as human said genial, but he knew not rather or not this was successful. He offered her his hand.

Lilly was the type that got involved in whatever she was doing; hence she did not hear the doors to the hydroponics open or close. She was still busy with her task at hand, not to mention admiring the lovely flowers and beetles. Even if some had to be restored or re-planted it was fun and beautiful. Fulfilling too. "Don't worry, I'll have you standing again in a jiffy." Lilly softly spoke to one of the plants that got tipped from the tossing about of the ship.
"Lillian Daniels I presume? I am Councilor Suroc and I would have a moment of your time if you are...feeling up to it."
"Oh!" Lilly was slightly startled as she jumped slightly as she turned around. She then breathed a breath of relief. "Yes, I'm Lillian." Lilly replied, now calm, brushing the dirt from her hands. Talk? What would the ships counselor wish to talk with her? "Certainly sir, what can I do for you?"

"Don't worry, I'll have you standing again in a jiffy."
"I see that you are a botanist. Its hard work. Do you nurture these plants Lillian?" The Vulcan asked the young girl. striking up conversation and establishing a "human connection" with his patient. No that was illogical, she was not his patient, not yet. As far as the now was concerned she was a young girl that had something horrible happen to her and he was trying to know her better.
"Yes, I'm Lillian."
"Hello Lillian. Good thing your name is Lillian or else that could have been a very illogical beginning to out conversation, don't you agree?"He asked her, stooped over to her level as to seem less intimidating
He looked at her with no feeling or emotion on his face and waited to see what this young girl would say. He had made a logical and sound decision switching from security to Counciling. He held his notepad off to the side of his leg, not trying to conceal it just out of the way.

"No, I'm not a botanist persay, sir, but it is something I'm interested in." Lilly replied. "I do help take care of them. Being useful, helping out is a good way to earn a place..." I suppose... "on the ship. Who would want to be a bump on a log? You know what I mean sir?" Hopefully he did. It hadn't come out sounding all Vulcan like as Lilly was not a Vulcan. She was just a teenager. Smart, but not always 100% articulate.
"If you don't mind my saying so sir, I don't rather suppose you'd get any ones name wrong if you came to see them."
He then got down to her level, which seemed a little bit odd to Lilly personally. The only time a person had gotten down to her level; that she could recall, was when she was in some sort of trouble. I hope that is not the case here! He had a PADD. Lilly couldn't help but notice. Not that it worried her; PADDS were quite a common thing to see officers with.

"You are doing a commendable job with these plants. I approve. Being of use is an excellent way of earning ones keep aboard a ship. A bump on a log Lillian? Logs do not generally have bumps." He said clearly not getting the turn of phrase. So as to look look less imposing he tooj to his knees and sat is padd aside.
"If you don't mind my saying so sir, I don't rather suppose you'd get any ones name wrong if you came to see them."
"Indeed. You speak the truth. I knew who you were before I entered this room. I seen many humans asking if a person was indeed whom they had been looking for knowing that it was. It seems highly illogical but well received. Tell me Lillian was this not the correct approach I should have made?" He asked wanting to keep the conversation going. And in part to see if he and been in error.

Lilly did her very best to surpress her mild giggle about the logs. She did smile. "I meant doing noting, staying idle...bump on a log, sir." Lilly tried to clear up her remark. She knew why he had not understood. It was because the statement lacked obvious logic. So did most humanoid races. It was a wonder sometimes how they got along.
The commander then asked and commented about the approach and people already knowing who someone is but asking anyway. Lilly thought for a moment. "Well sir, some Humans and other species sometimes do that when they flirt. At least that is what I've observed on a few occasions. Other times I guess they do it as not to seem stupid. We must be rather puzzling beings at times, sir." They had to be seeing as Vulcans are the only ones in the universe to claim logic at all times...even the women.
"About the approach sir, my advise would be to just be yourself, and approach things how you think they should be." Lilly didn't know why exactly he asked her that, but it was the best reply that she could come up with. At least this one sounded kinda logical. It was to the point. Lilly had never known a Vulcan to beat around the bush.

"I meant doing noting, staying idle...bump on a log, sir."[/i]
"Ah, a human metaphor for being useless. I see. How...interesting." Said Suroc still looking at Lillain and listening intently. She has said that that is something humans do when flirting? That was something he was certainly not doing as he was old enough to be her great grandfather. Humans, quite the illogical enigma. This was his line of work. He does this because this was his calling.
"About the approach sir, my advise would be to just be yourself, and approach things how you think they should be."
"And that Lillian is logic if I have ever heard any, and I am Vulcan, I have herd much logic. So tell me. Do you have many friends on Orion Lillian?" Suroc asked her now getting a little digging a little deeper.

He understood. Wonderful! If she had to explain further, well...it'd just go downhill. Turning illogical things into logical things was not something Lilly was super great at. She just might have ended up stuttering or stammering for words. That would have been embarrasing for sure.
She did feel rather pleased when the commander 'praised' her logic. Did Vulcans give praise? Sure they could say job well done and things like that, but... Stop now before you give yourself a headache.
"Friends sir?" Now why would he want to know that? "Well, I've gotten to know Ensign Summers, and Lieutenant Rei well. More so Ensign Summers though." Lilly paused a moment in thought. "If you mean friends as in besties, then no. You must admit, sir, that the ship is lacking some in the teenager department."

"Yes Miss Daniels friends. You have befriended Ensign Summers and Lieutenant Rei, that is good. Do you wish to pursue a friendship with these two young woman? The ship is lacking in youth which the only logical conclusion would be that young children like you are meant shine brighter than a Star." He wondered if he used encouragement correctly "Lillian what is this....bestie you speak up? Is bestie another friend you have made, you you trying to culminate a friendship with bestie as well?" Asked Suroc.

Why was he asking these questions? It was quite curious. Pursue a friendship? Could you order someone to be friends? Surly not. Not that Lilly had objections being any ones friend. The more the merrier! All the officers were just so busy all the time there did not seem like much for anything except a working relationship.
Lilly lightly laughed. "Sorry sir. No, a bestie is reference to a best friend, a truly kindred spirit..."
Lilly tucked some hair behind her ear. "If you don't mind me asking, what are these questions about sir? Have I done something?"

"Sorry sir. No, a bestie is reference to a best friend, a truly kindred spirit..."
"Ah a best friend, a kindred spirit, a friend that is above others in a hierarchy of friends. I see. Well given your personality I am sure that you find a beastie. A...friend of mine once told me that people they come and go. But friends if you make the right ones, will last a life time. At the time I thought that was a very illogical human statement. Talking with you Lillian I am coming to see what he meant."
"If you don't mind me asking, what are these questions about sir? Have I done something?"
"These questions are me trying to see how you are.....feeling. If your in a good state of mind. We are alone in the Delta Quadrant, a very scary situation for any young girl to be in. I can tell that you are a very logical little girl Lillian so I will be direct. I have read your file and I know of the death of your parents. Then this wormhole happened. Now logic would dictate lillian you are terrified, feeling alone even. I was wondering if you would be willing to tell me how you feel. Whatever you tell me will be between you and I. I would like to be your friend Lillian. You have done nothing wrong."

Lilly was relieved to hear that she had not done anything wrong. It was like a weight had been lifted. Something had hit her; it was the drop on the Delta Quadrant. Why were they there? Lilly knew this was no joke since Vulcans did not joke. For them everything went with logic, and detached emotions. It must have been the reason she fell and some of the plants ended up out of joint.
"I didn't know we were in the Delta Quadrant." Lilly was thinking; blue eyes going back and forth. She was a little stunned at first, but like all things it would eventually pass as things settled. "Alone?" Lilly echoed. "Well, I never really thought about it before. I know that I don't have any other family to speak of in the Alpha Quadrant...certainly not here."
"I uh..." Lilly touched the side of her head with her fingers; looking almost as if she might run her fingers through her strawberry hair. However, she was thinking. "Wouldn't say that I'm terrified sir, no. Right now more so shock." Lilly brought her hand back down. "Is everyone else alright?"
Their situation had to be hard on everyone.

He did not intend for the young girl to learn that they were in the Delta Quadrant by his lips. Be that as it may it is good that she now knew. It was unfortunate that she had to find out like this, but sometimes those things happened. He looked at her to measure how she was taking the shock of learning that they were no longer in the Alpha Quadrant.
"Yes not long ago the wormhole opened right on top of the ship and hurled us into you Delta Quadrant. But I am sure that you will be learning all about that as you go about the ship. It all everyone is speaking about. That and the Alien race known as the Rathr we have made first contact with, or at least that is what I have heard in passing" Suroc comfortingly padded her on the shoulder.
"Lillian if you are willing, I would like to discuss your parents. Would that be alright if we were to talk about them? Such things are good to discuss, it gets rid of a great burden that people really never know they carry. Tell me Lillian is it a logical choice to carry around heart ache deep inside were it could manifest into destructive or violent tendencies. Of course I am not stating that you are having any such tendencies.
Now back to the matter of your parents. Do you miss them?" Suroc finally stopped talking. He sure was long winded. He looked at Lillian a comforting hand on her shoulder.
