History/Background/Education
Cadfael Jaco was born on Angosia, but his parents, who were diplomats on the planet, were posted to Earth as envoys to state the case for the Angosians joining the Federation. There Cadfael grew up in Shrewsbury, England, where he developed his love for good ales, beers and spirits. When he graduated from university, he became an Angosian diplomat.
Going through several postings during his career in the Angosian and the Federation diplomatic services, Cadfael Jaco became a distinguished and much-travelled man. Ever since he was 65, however, he has been weary of travelling and wished to focus on building his family, wishing to turn his career around. When invited to join the crew of Delta One by Arthur Ashbury, an old friend, he refused the position of Diplomatic Officer but he did want to go. To that end, he buyed space on the Promenade of Delta One, just a new adventure: there he'd put another of his loves to good use... and give a little advice from an old man where needed.
It does not need to be super long or very complex.
Personality Profile:
Cadfael is a wise old man with a formidable wit. He has seen much of the Galaxy and learned much during his many postings as a Diplomat, which serves him well as he travels, especially in the form of a good understanding of human nature. He has an inquisitive and curious mind and likes a challenge, be it in diplomacy or otherwise, and the skills he learned during his career still come in useful in retirement as a pub owner.
Helping other people and keeping peace is Cadfael's principal goal in life, contributing much to his success and determination as a diplomat. In pursuing the good of others, he has a casual attitude towards rules and protocols. In fact, he rather enjoys breaking a little rule to help someone every now and then, and he enjoys explaining why with a sort of witty "holier than thou" attitude even more.
Cadfael loves a good drink and has sampled a lot of drinks from all over the galaxy, which he is glad to recommend to others. He also brews his own ales when he finds the time. A friend of Commander Ashbury despite the difference in age, he was brought aboard the station as a sort of jack of all trades to help him, and he readily does so, putting his knowledge and wisdom at the disposal of the station's crew.
Any Special Notes: I have a bit of difficulty describing the personality, so the character might deviate a little from what you might expect based on all this.

Role-Play Sample:
The Garden Inn in Shrewsbury was almost empty that night, but in the corner two men were sitting: a young man with messy short-cut blonde hair, wearing a Starfleet uniform in the Command Division, and a casually-dressed Angosian. Sipping at their pints of the local ale, they were exchanging stories of times past, when the old man - Cadfael Jaco - was a Federation Ambassador. They had met aboard the USS Kirk while he was on a diplomatic mission, and had become cood friends.
"So, Cadfael, will you do it?" asked Arthur. The Starfleet Commander was wishing to recruit him for his new station in the Delta Quadrant. Though interested, Cadfael had a problem: he was retired and felt he needed some rest and a change of pace from diplomatic functions. "My old friend," he said gently. "I'm a retired Federation Ambassador. What makes you think I have any intention of giving all this" - he gestured around him - "up for the life of a diplomat ever again?"
"Simple," said Art. "You loved that job." They laughed heartily. Yes, it was true, Cadfael did love the life of a diplomat. It was like a good game of chess, but one in which you made the rules. Cadfael never had been one to take much heed of the rules, if it helped others. "You know as well as I do, Art, that I do," he said. "I'd love to come with you, but an old man would slow down your much-needed pace." Arthur laughed heartily at this joke. "Besides, I rest my case: why would I give up being a good customer to this place?"
"Come on, Cadfael," said Art. "Do you think we really lack a..." His friend stopped, as if he had just realised something. "You could help me out after all," he said. "We're still looking for a man to open a good pub on the station."
"My dear friend, do I look like a pub owner to you?" Cadfael said, laughing, but the offer had got him thinking. He would be able to turn his hobby of sampling drinks from all over the Galaxy to good use and make it into a relaxed job for his retirement. "The Portal Inn... sounds good. Can I count on your patronage, Commander?"
"If I can count on your help," answerred Arthur. "Otherwise, I'll find a Ferengi to open one." Cadfael knew he didn't really mean that. "Oh, am I being blackmailed here?" he said jokingly with a straight face. Arthur looked at him and smiled.
"I knew you would do it," Art said. And I know you are not going to give me one moment of peaceful retirement, Art, Cadfael thought with a smile. Not if you can help it.
