Elder Guide S'bos seemed surprised at the Klingon's reaction. They also seemed to have the habit to look at a person's face intently when he spoke. The Rathren did not: they took in the smell when another spoke. "You kept moving your face in a way that spoke of it," he explained to the Lieutenant. "Such gestures are strange to us, but I have seen species who do it and have mastered a little."
The man mentioned that he was a hunter. "We were hunters once, Mishtak Lieutenant of the Orion," he said. "But we have since moderated our ways. Only our strong sense of smell remains now." Sweat appeared on the old man's brow, a sweat that smelled strongly of the soothing scent of lavender. "It helps us communicate wordlessly," he admitted.
"As I was saying," he said. "If you wish, you can come to Rathr as a safe haven, friends. We can, to help you, transfer some data on ourselves and our portal to your ship."

La'Mara sort of wanted to giggle at the words exchanged between the elder and Mishtak. It was sort of amusing in a small way if one was to think about it. What good would it do to giggle? Was it even captain like? No. La'Mara just swallowed the giggle, and kept it silent. No longer hunters. I wonder what happened... They were certainly and interesting species. If only there were time to learn a whole lot more. Unfortunately this was no lunch outing. La'Mara gave Lisa a look that said 'if you want to pepper away with a few questions you better do it now'.
"If you wish, you can come to Rathr as a safe haven, friends. We can, to help you, transfer some data on ourselves and our portal to your ship."
"Both would be rather lovely. Thank you very much. Would you like anything of us in return?"

"Excuse me Elder S'Bos, I am Lieutenant Commander of the Orion, I my ships pilot, I was curious sir if you have the coordinants of other friendly peoples and planets, as we can try to avoid conflict. Any and all assistance you would be able to provide me would be a great help to us and Guide Tiho...sir."
Larkin had wondered if he had communicated well enough. He had hoped so. i did not want to come off as demanding or begging but rather asking. These Rathren seemed pleasant folk. He was more relieved that this did not turn out to be an enormous trap. The scent of lavender once more crept up his nostrils like water that searches out cracks in pavement. He took a deep breath in and lost himself in the serene moment of the land, this planet would be ideal for therapy and he could easily see himself being here for a shore leave.

Elder S'bos' sweat now radiated a feeling of kindness, like a kindly old man. It smelled fresh, but old at the same time. To the human nose, it would remind them of the smell of trees, but to the Rathren nose the full subtleties of the scent were smellable. "We require only your friendship," he answered to the Captain. "And we would appreciate your help should we ever need it."
He was then approached by Commander Reinhardt. "I know," he said to the man's introduction. "Your Guide has introduced you already." He noticed favourably the use of his own name for the leader of a ship: the concept of 'captaincy' was foreign to him. "And we shall certainly try to give you these coordinates, although we know only a few in our immediate vicinity."

"Thank you kindly Elder S'Bos. Even though they are few, what you can provide will be precious to this crew. Thank you sir." Larkin bowed respectfully and took a step back. He looked at the at the Elder, then the crew and the Captain. He put on another smile for the Elder.

"We require only your friendship," he answered to the Captain. "And we would appreciate your help should we ever need it."
"We would like nothing better to be friends, and to help whenever possible." They had just made their first friend in this quadrant. Cause for a celebration of some sort! Seeing that friendship and help was the only thing they wanted in return made first contact much more easy, simply because of some of those pesky Federation rules; which were there for a good reason.
Then filling a request so soon; coordinates. It would help. Though when Larkin had asked La'Mara sort of felt as if they were starting to intrude or be a bit pushy; even if it was a good idea. It was just possibly her nerves due to the newness of the situation. Something she'd have to get quite used to. "Thank you very much for your kindness, and friendship." La'Mara said sincerely. They'd have to be off very soon, she almost considered contacting the Orion for a moment, but decided to wait just a little while as not to be rude.

Obtained information. Friendship. Not wanting anything much in return. This had turned out better than she had expected. Xena finally put her tricorder away. She would download it into the database when they got back to the ship. It'd be good for security as well as the science department. However, they had been down on the planet a little longer than she had at first anticipated. Regulations...
"If you'll excuse the interruption," Xena said looking at Captain Tiho, and the elder. "I think we should check in with the ship."

The elder did not seem very surprised; or at least that would be one deduction made from the odour he emitted. "Go ahead, we don't mind," he said patiently. "We also appreciate your desire to get home; if you wish to start your journey, you are free to return to your ship."
This was not an order. It was merely a statement that it did not trouble the elder what his guests did.

Xena was right. It was time to check in with the ship, and they didn't seem to mind the interruption, or the fact that it was so. So kind. So polite. La'Mara smiled and tapped her badge. "Tiho to Orion, all is well down here. Stand by to transport."
She would fill them in when they got back. The bridge crew at least, or maybe just Commander Hughes. La'Mara was pretty sure the team would fill their friends in on what happened down here. Or the crew could pull the information once it was in the core. Not like this was classified.
"Well, we do have a long ways to go. Thank you for everything."
La'Mara tapped her badge again. "Beam us up."

Larkin thought to himself how incredibly successful this away mission was. They got shiny new coordinates, made a new friend, or in this case friends. It truly was a win win situation for the Orion and her crew. Over all and on the whole he enjoyed himself. He once again thought to himself how he was grateful that Mishtak had suggested to the bringing of him.
Larkin at hearing the Captain say beam us up stood at ease with his hands behind his back and waited for the beam up. He was sure that helm while enjoyed the touch of woman needed firmer hands on her console. Its been a year since the accident he thought to himself, but slowly he was regaining himself. Baby step by baby step he was once again returning to the man he was. Away missions he enjoyed them. And for a new Captain handling her first First Contact she did incredibly well, he had to say the shoe fits.
End: Larkin

"Beam us up."
It seemed they were heading back to the ship, odd to say the least. He thought to himself 'this has to be the shortest first contact meeting in federation history.' but it was not his call on how things should be done, so he simply prepared himself for the return trip to the Orion, where he was scheduled to go off duty which would allow him to get some work down in the security office before Sharpay's shift ended and they could meet up...
He said nothing further as he waited patiently for the familiar feel of the transporter...
END - Move back to the ship...

Pleased her interruption was not frowned upon, and also didn't ruffle any feathers, or change the smell too much, Xena waited and listened as Captain Tiho contacted the Orion, which was hopefully in orbit still, and not under attack of any sort. And yes, that included attack from a young lad that liked to cross security. He said he'd try and stay out of trouble. That will be the day. Xena thought as they were beamed up.
