"Robinsonade"
"Er... I think we need just a bit more focus here, Vortek," said Rose as she pointed the Vulcan crewman to the second planet in the system they had just entered. Just a few minutes ago, she had been on the Holodeck, trying to find inspiration for a holonovel, but she had lacked it, when Lieutenant Huygens commed in and asked her to report to Astrometrics.
The Planetary Specialist, as she sort of was, was called to investigate the one class M planet in the system, which according to Rathren pointers contained layers of some needed chemicals to restock the ship's medical and engineering supplies. She remembered what she answered: "I'm a Planetary Specialist, not a Geologist, but er... I'll try." She had heard her superior officer laugh at her over the comm.
And there she was, going over the planetary data to see if they could locate the veins. "Logical, Ensign," said Vortek. His logic still gave Rose some feeling of inadequacy. The grid enlarged, and she could see the layers. "Yes, looks like they're right there." As the globe turned on the viewscreen, she was drawn to another eyecatching detail. "Vortek, what's that over there?" she said, pointing again. "It can hardly be dust on the lens, can it?"
"That would be illogical," said Vortek. "Oh wait, a joke," he said in his rather unemotional Vulcan way. He zoomed in on the location, and Rose saw what looked like ruins. "There are more," she said, observing them. "We just have to go down."
"Digby to Bridge," she said over the comm. "We've found the veins and some intriguing ruins."

Rose smiled at reading Ryanna's message. Really, it was no big deal what she had done, just a bit of common sense and some sensor data. "Good job again, Vortek," she said to Crewman Vortek. "Not at all," he said politely. "You take too little credit, Ensign." Rose stopped talking, unwilling to pursue that topic yet again. Vortek gave her too much credit and she knew she wouldn't win an argument with the highly logical Vulcan crewman.
Instead, she sent a message back to Ryanna on the Bridge. It read: Thank you, we'll try to find out more.

Oh! Is it that time already? Rose snapped out of her thoughts on the ruins and looked at the time. It was the end of her shift already, and she was now off duty. "It's the end of my shift, Crewman," she said to Vortek, who nodded. Having said goodbye and good luck, Rose wondered what she would do.
Maybe she'd check up on Zack and tell her about her discoveries. Ever since Commander Hughes had mysteriously decided all of a sudden to change around the Science duty shifts, she had had the same shift as him. It's certainly helped our friendship.
Yes, she'd go visit Zack. She took the turbolift to deck 13, where he shared quarters with another Cadet (a Trill, if she recalled correctly).
End Rose- Move to Zack and Syell's place

T'eyla walks in and nods a greeting to Vortek. She was grateful there were no humans present as they tended to grow bothersome with their inefficacy. She approached one of the consoles, one that had not yet been designated with a certain task, and programed it to search for different ecosystems on the planet, taking note of any which might contain promise of scientifically interesting life forms.
"Excuse me Crewman Vortek, May I inquire about your endeavorer here?"
She said to the only other person in the room, a fellow Vulcan. As Vulcans were not known for their 'small talk' as it is an illogical practice among Humans, mostly, she did not say anything upon entering, she only addressed him now because she was curious as to what the science department's scans may have discovered that would aid her own research into life in the Delta Quadrant.
Vortek responded: "I am currently running a scan of a mineral deposit on the surface of a Class M planet nearby."
She thought about that for a moment.
"Has your research produced anything of interest?"

Crewman Vortek looked up from his console and saw T'eyla, a Civilian, fellow Vulcan, enter. It was logical that she had to make use of the sensors to scan for lifesigns, seeing as she was a biologist. "I am currently running a scan of a mineral deposit on the surface of a class-M planet nearby," he responded. "Ensign Digby was here too, but her shift has ended."
"Has your research produced anything of interest?"
T'eyla was quite inquisitive. Vortek thought for a while why this was, then decided that was irrelevant as a piece of information, and that he had just to answer her question. "A few ruins," she said. "They seemed to interest Ensign Digby, which is logical for one of her specialisation."

"A few ruins," she said. "They seemed to interest Ensign Digby, which is logical for one of her specialization."
T'eyla made a mental note of the ruins. They would be sure to interest her sister, T'pyla. They indicated intelligent life, something that particularly interested her as a zoologist.
"I can see why ruins would interest any human, since they seem to greatly enjoy making first contact with new species, especially on exploratory missions, such as this one. Do you have any speculation as to what the away mission may find?"
T'eyla was merely interested because her twin was very interested in such things. The extremely strong telepathic bond they shared as Vulcan twins caused aspects of their personalities to rub off on each other.
