Star Base Virtus was founded in the year 2263 as a remote research outpost to study the Great Barrier near the Galactic Core. The original station was a basic Federation research outpost with a crew of about 250 in total. Due its location, however, bordering so many quadrants- it found itself visited by many alien races. Some were peaceful, and others were anything but. Star Base Virtus would often aid travelling merchants, pirates, and explorers- offering them a chance to resupply, refuel, and rest in the relative safety of the Troy system.
Years went on and word spread about the conveniently placed station- and soon they found themslves commonly under attack and more commonly visited. The station began to shift- their scientific duties too often interrupted the stance of the Star Base soon became more militaristic, and without Starfleet's watchful eye, more commerical.
The Star Base would expand from its original size to three times that- adding more ships to its structure including the Federation freighter Bachjret- which is now the high end area of the station, safest for civilians, an Andorian freighter called Talest- now the high end crime district, and the Klingon ship Kozak- now the poorest area of the station which is overcrowded and has the highest crime rate.
Now it is the year 2345, and Star Base Virtus has since declared its independence from the Federation. It is a neutral trading zone which is self sustaining, has a flourishing population, its own protective fleet, and a growing criminal underworld.

RED ALERT! Due to the rapid spread of the unknown virus now known simply the Virtus Fever, Star Base Virtus is now considered a QUARANTINE area! No ships may come or go as of the 10th of November. This virus specifically targets certain species and excludes others, and in the tight quarters of the Kozak ward is running rampant.
