La'Mara had tossed and turned all night long. The Trill captain had hardly gotten a lick of sleep ever since a gas had been released throughout the ship to help cure the crew from their juvenile antics. Truth be told, like many others who had acted like children again she didn't exactly remember much that went on.
If it weren't for the excellent reports La'Mara had read by the officers that stayed 'adults' she doubted she'd know anything about the incident. The only thing that seemed to linger was a mild headache. Despite that, she was due on the bridge. Which she arrived promptly.
"Hello everyone," La'Mara greeted the on duty crew cheerfully, with a bright smile as she walked down the steps to make her way to her chair. "anything new?"

Things had been rather quiet since the Doctor had cured the crew from the condition that made them all act as children. This gave Christian an opportunity to see in peace and quiet to the further training of Cadet Syell in the Command division, so that he could take over as a night shift Commanding Officer. At the moment La'Mara came in, he was instructing Syell on how to find his command style, something the Joined Trill had been looking for for a while. It was important to the young Trill, because command styles, as he well knew, impacted tremendously on crew morale.
Christian rose from the Captain's chair respectfully and greeted La'Mara cheerfully. "Good morning, ma'am," he said, returning her smile. "Cadet Syell and I have been grooming him for night shift command, so that we can sleep soundly when we leave the Bridge to him. As for anything 'new', no, not as such."

"Cadet Syell and I have been grooming him for night shift command, so that we can sleep soundly when we leave the Bridge to him. As for anything 'new', no, not as such."
"Well, I have no doubt that Syell will excel at his first time in command of the bridge." La'Mara commented positively with a smile. "Who knows commander, our cadet in training here might just end up taking over your job." Tiho said jokingly. Well, alright their Trill cadet did have more knowledge than people thought due to him being joined.
It had been pretty much the same when La'Mara was in the academy. Some did forget that she was joined, hence they forgot that some of the things she already knew. She'd not make the same mistake with Syell.
"And nothing new you say..." La'Mara lightly bit her lip. She was half disappointed, yet half relieved. No news was good news, right? Okay. Perhaps not all the time; at least not in the strange lives of Starfleet officers.
"Since all is calm at the moment, how would you like to sit in my chair for a little while?" La'Mara offered Syell, extending her hand openly to the captains chair. She could always lean on the rail or something. Perhaps wander to each station and have a looks-see.
"Oh, by the way, nice job writing up your report." La'Mara complimented Christian.

Syell smiled. Obviously the Captain and the Commander had forgotten that he had already been in nominal command of the Bridge while they were stranded on an alien planet, covering for Mishtak and Commander Reinhardt, who were liaising in the Ready Room. "Not my first time," he pointed out, smiling. "Not even this time around," he added, referring to his joined nature, lest La'Mara misunderstood. "Wouldn't dream of taking over from Commander Hughes, though."
Then the Captain offered Syell the chance of having command of the Bridge for a while. "If you think I'm up to it, sure," he said confidently, nodding.

"Not my first time," "Not even this time around,"
Ah, yes. The Symbiont inside of Syell. One of it's hosts had command experience. Every member of the crew had a file; a well read file, by both herself, and Lieutenant Mishtak. So far Syell didn't act like Chrym, which was a very good thing.
One that hopefully could be maintained. Occasionally joined Trill have struggled with trying to keep at least one dominant personality under-wraps. La'Mara was no exception. Jix Tiho was her trouble maker.
La'Mara gave a knowing smile. She understood.
"Wouldn't dream of taking over from Commander Hughes, though."
"Are you sure about that?" La'Mara inquired good naturedly. "If us already Starfleet officers were never going to need someone to take over for us, then what would be the point in Starfleet having an academy to recruit and train up cadets to become officers?"
Did that sound a little bit like Vulcan logic? Ah well. At least it was a question that would get some wheels turning. About three minutes later a beeping sound came from OPS. La'Mara turned her head in the direction as the officer on duty reported that they had picked up an automated distress call.
"Distance? Lifeforms?" La'Mara questioned.

Faith had been sitting at CONN, doing her duties, yet also wondering why she hadn't seen a few people since the incident of eating the fruits and veggies from New Eden; which she did not remember doing. But she thought that she'd at least had seen Larkin, unless he of course fell into the pits again and was spending all his time with Suroc, which is another member of the crew that she had not seen. Life goes on...
Just as Lieutenant Ackron thought that she also got a reading from sensors. The officer at OPS just announced it first. "Not too far." Was Faith's 'fly girl' reply. "Actually captain, we can be there in thirty minutes at warp one since you are going to tell us to go to the ship in distress." It was the Starfleet thing to do; not to mention Faith sort of had gotten a feel for their captain by now.

"One life form." Came the report at OPS, using the long range scanners. Then came Lieutenant Ackrons report about distance. "Thank you very much Miss Ackron." La'Mara replied with a half smile. She had to admit to herself that Faith did know what she would do, well part way. La'Mara looked at Syell who was still in the captains chair. "Care to give the order?" Syell looked at Captain Tiho. He actually was going to get up from the chair and let his captain have it back. When the captain asked if he'd care to give the order it did take him a little by surprise. Looking to Lieutenant Ackrons station Syell said: "Set course to intercept, lieutenant, and engage at warp one." "Ensign Tulsa," Syell addressed the man at the tactical station. "keep a sharp look out for any hostile forces." "Aye cadet." La'Mara looked at Syell and smiled softly. "Well done." She commented. The ship's distress call was now coming into audio range. They could hear the voice of a young man, ailing: // "They are the Borg. We will be assimilated. Our cultural and biological distinctiveness will be added to their own. Resistance is futile." // He repeated it several times.

Christian wondered at the voice they heard over the comm. The Borg hail, only not in first person, all over and over again. Borg. It sent a shiver down his spine. In the meantime, the ailing voice, far-away, was going on and on over the comm. "Harold!" he told Harold Francis at Ops. "Please stop that signal from repeating another time, before we'll all be ailing the Borg hail in third-person!"
He couldn't stand the sound, it somehow made him afraid and insecure.

"Set course to intercept, lieutenant, and engage at warp one."
"You got it." Faith replied with a small smile, as her fingers set in course and speed. She hit 'go' when ordered. La'Mara had surprised Faith a bit when she let Syell give the order, but he did require practice; he as the person of course, not as a lifetime of many people. Stop thinking before you give yourself a headache.
"Arriving," For added fun Faith added: "sir."
It was then the voice over the comm was clear. Just just clear, but kinda creepy too. "Since when do Borg send distress signals? Not to mention from ships that are not one of their own."
"Harold!" "Please stop that signal from repeating another time, before we'll all be ailing the Borg hail in third-person!"
Faith glanced over her shoulder at Commander Hughes. He seemed really freaked out, but who could really blame him? Not many people had the best of luck when it came to the Borg. If they did, then the collective would not be as large, and the Borg would not be feared or have many ships.
"The shuttle craft is adrift. I'm not picking up any other vessels."

La'Mara put a hand to her chin and started stroking it with her index finger with a look of concentration set upon her face. It was an interesting hail. Faith sort of had a point, and obvious a few people were nervous. But with the report of the shuttle craft being adrift, no other vessels, the craft sending out a distress call, well. La'Mara faced OPS. "How many life forms?"
A few taps on the console. "Just one."
Just one...
"Here's what we're going to do." Captain Tiho stated addressing the entire bridge crew. "We're going to tractor the shuttle and store it in our shuttle bay. I also want two security guards posted in the shuttlebay, and two in sickbay;" La'Mara looked to Christian and Tulsa. "as we are going to transport that traumatized life form straight to sickbay. So get a lock."
Her hand went straight to her badge. "Sickbay, prepare to receive a visitor."

Christian was in no doubt that the situation, although strange, was a genuine distress situation and not a Borg trap. Had Mishtak sat where he or Syell were now sitting, he'd have cautioned the Captain against beaming the ailing man on board. He was taking over giving some of the orders now. Giving the Captain a smile which told her 'good call', Christian took the initiative. "Harold, have you got a lock?" he asked Lieutenant Francis at Ops. "Yes sir," said Harold. "Energise," Christian told Harold, and Harold operated the Transporter, beaming the man directly into sickbay.
"I wonder what's wrong with him," he wondered aloud. "There's no Borg Hail Ailing Virus that I know of. Perhaps we could put some Scientists on the case. Cadet Syda?" he asked the question of La'Mara. "Oh," he added. "And this sounds like a good time to allow Ensign Digby to overcome her fear of the Borg. I hear she doesn't like them as much as Syda." And I hear Syda likes her, he thought, although he didn't say it. And vice versa. La'Mara would know that anyway. Lisa had been a very willing spy upon the two young Science Officers, and there seemed to be a certain affection between the two, according to her.

Moments after the man had been beamed to sickbay, and the bridge got the response from the doctor, his own message came through onto the bridge.
//"Mishtak to Bridge, visitor received in sickbay. I'll remain here to assess the situation."//

"Sounds like a good idea. See to it." La'Mara replied with a friendly tone of approval, and light smile. As well as a light wave of her right hand. This situation was slightly puzzling as well as intriguing to her. If La'Mara didn't have the job of captaining the ship and crew at the moment she would have zipped straight to sickbay to watch the doctors at work, and if possible, talk to the person they had just beamed onto the ship. But...ship and mystery came first.
Mishtak's voice broke through the comm lines as La'Mara was about to go deep in thought. That was a bit of a plus. It saved her a call. "Good. Keep me updated on all changes." Tiho replied.
Now tapping her chin; "Scan for any transwarp signatures. Have the shuttle examined; inside and out. I want answers."
