It was so great to be back to normal. Of course Zack didn't remember much after he had accidentally eaten one of the plants from New Eden. All he remembered was doing some kind of work. Either way that was over, and he was fit for duty.
Currently he was just doing some rather routine work in the science lab. Well, perhaps routine to other people, but fun for him. Zack actually enjoyed his work. PADD in hand, he sat down in a chair with a console right in front. "And here we go!"

It was worth the loss of sleep so the USS Orion had her crew back. He was reading the results and staying in communication with Sick Bay and the Bridge to see things where coming long.
“Smooth sailing,” he said as he was stretching his arms out and yawning. He pushed himself out of his chair. His back was sore. It was old age and he wished he did not have to experience by pain.
Walking into the Science Lab, he saw Cadet Syda was all cheerful. “They all grow up fast,” he said, smiling to all the busy science members. “How are feel, Mister Syda?” Scott asked as he placed his hands behind his back.

Since their Robinsonade a few months ago, Rose had found that she increasingly liked to spend time with Zack. She just liked the guy, and often when he was researching in the science labs, she'd go and see what he was doing, even though she was formally a Planetary Specialist and he was more into cybertechnics. This time, she walked with him to his station, PADD in hand.
She smiled shily at the joke that the Chief Science Officer made about 'growing up'. Truth be told, Rose was a bit embarrassed by the notion that they had all been acting like little children during that little incident. I must have made a fool of myself, she thought. I always do, especially now. "Er.." she said. "Good morning, Mr Scott." She said it the way she would greet a teacher.
The talented young Science Officer took a while to show her interest in Zack and his research. "So, what are you doing today, Zack?" she asked. "Still analysing that piece of strange Borg tech we found on the planet?" She found that strange. The thing was undoubtedly carrying a Borg signature, but it had seemed strange to her. Perhaps she'd infer more about it once Zack had his own research all sorted out.

“How are feel, Mister Syda?”
Zack looked up at the chief of science. He quite liked working under him, and they shared a common interest: The Borg. Not to mention Lieutenant Commander Scott was also easy to get along with. Though the jokes of his last name and a famous engineers' were quite...well, frequent among the other science officers.
"Quiet well commander. It's great to be back in the lab." Zack replied almost a bit too enthusiastically. "How about yourself, sir?" Then an all too familiar voice chimed into the conversation. Zack smiled at Rose.
"I don't think there is anything of that Borg tech left to analyze." Zack replied to one question with a light chuckle. He had studied that tech until the cows came home, and even after the cows had sat an grazed a while. In-right, up-right, down-right, inside out, out side-in, and so forth.
"As for what I'm doing today..." Zack began carefree. "I'm running a test. Then later I thought that I'd have lunch with a ginger-haired ensign in the science department."

Rose felt a bit disappointed, strangely, that Zack had abandoned researching the piece of Borg tech. The thing scared her like all Borg stuff, but it also intrigued her, partly because she didn't know what it was. "Too bad," she said. "I doubt I could've got anything out of it either."
Then Zack carefreely brought the subject onto the matter of having lunch with Rose. It made her blush a little, and she smiled shily. He means me, she knew. "Well, good luck then," she said softly. "And er... see you at lunchtime?" She was uncertain. She didn't know of any other ginger-haired ensigns, but she was still sort of afraid she'd get it all wrong.
She went over to her own station. Not much going on there, but there were always things about space to be analysed.

"I doubt I could've got anything out of it either."
Wait. Wait. Wait. Was that a challenge? Or was it a reverse phcyo babble to make him study it even more? Or was it just a plain simple comment? Personally Zack could not tell. "Hold your horses, ensign. I never said I didn't get anything from it." Zack told Rose, sitting up fully in his chair.
"As a matter of fact..." Zack pulled up all the information and cross references he had gotten from his research and sent it over to Ensign Digbys' station. It was quite a slew of information. Facts, figures, hypotheses, etc. etc.
"And er... see you at lunchtime?"
"It's a date." Zack replied as he started to turn back to his work. Alright, perhaps it was not an official date. But it was a meeting up, which did fall under the word date.

"It's a date" was the first Lisa heard when she cheerfully entered the Science Labs, ready for some scientific action. It was Cadet Syda who said it, and probably to Rose Digby. She grinned. "Good morning, Mr Scott," the Assistant said to the Chief, but then she hurried over to Zack's station.
"So, Zack," she asked with a grin on her face. "Who's the lucky girl? Rose?" She didn't mean it unkindly, least of all towards Zack. She felt like asking Rose the same question, after all.

As Zack turned back to his work before him, the assistant chief science officer; Lieutenant Lisa Huygens came over to his station. Somehow he was not surprised at the assistant chiefs' questions. After all, Zack did have a sister. "Good morning Lieutenant Huygens." Zack replied rather casually; but not too casually. She was his superior.
"Lucky girl? Rose?" Zack echoed. He knew what she was getting at. Or so he thought. "Well..." Zack shrugged a shoulder, with a tiny grin. "you know what the song says: The fellows go crazy for the lady in red." Hopefully I didn't embarrass Rose too much.
"Of course that's more in reference to dress, lieutenant." Zack stretched his feet out under his station. "Is there anything else I can help you with ma'am?"

Before Lisa answered a call from Commander Hughes came over the comm. Zack's eyes widened at the words. He stood, and rubbed his hands together enthusiastically. "Not entirely Borg?" Yes, so worth looking into! "Let's go ensign!" As Zack said that he was practically out the door.
The young man wanted to just zoom right on down. He knew Rose on the other hand...well, from what she had told him would be quiet reluctant. Zack backed through the doors. "Don't worry. I'm sure security has sickbay surrounded. So, are you coming?"
