Lydia had just arrived on Starbase 121 via a transport shuttle. It had been a bit of a long and tiring ride over. Sitting for such a long time really was not her. She was glad to have finally arrived at the starbase. Lydia walked out and into the hustling and bustling crowd of people.
She rolled her shoulders back before reaching for a PADD inside of her pack. It contained instructions, orders, and how long she'd be stuck there waiting for the rest of the crew to arrive. Lydia wasn't just another person arriving on Starbase 121. She was a Starfleet officer, and a new captain at that. After a bit Lydia decided to go by and see if she could get a look at the USS Orion, the Intrepid class vessel she was supposed to captain.
Lydia knew the ship was not to have people on it just yet,but she at least figured she could have a look at it through the window.

James was in the middle of writing a letter to his father who was currently on a deep space mission for the Klingon High Council when he was startled by the sound of an incoming message from starfleet, it was the orders he had been waiting for, he was being ordered to starbase 121, where he would receive his orders about his new assignment aboard the USS Orion. He quickly finished his letter grabbed his stuff and headed towards the shuttle pad where he would meet up with his wife and two sons to travel to the starbase.

Krymerik was already there with her charge and luggage. They were in the station's mess, Thanos was staring wonderingly out the window and she watched him from her spot at a table. It was tedious waiting for the order to be given for Orion's crew to board her. She wanted to unpack and check both the Tactical console on the Bridge and the Armoury.
"Is that the ship we're going to?" Thanos asked, turning to her and she nodded. "Yes." she smiled slightly.

Captain Prince walked to the control room of the Starbase requesting permission,as well as to confirm the number she had where the ship was docked. An officer confirmed it and granted her request. He led the way through a few mess of officers to get the best view. Lydia looked around wondering if any of the officers she passed were her crew. Not too soon they were there.
Lydia peered out the large glass window out into the docking port of Starbase 121. Her eyes sparkled with awe at the ship she would be in charge of. A feeling of uncertainty washed over her for a brief moment. She was not sure how she'd do once out there,of course she didn't let that show. It would have been wrong to...very unprofessional.
Remembering a few discussions with Starfleet captains and former captains and how they had said they weren't fully prepared for the challenges they faced nor could anything prepare you for those challenges gave Lydia an odd sort of comfort. The kind where you know you're not alone. From what she knew of her crew, which was very little, Lydia guessed that a few of them were also bound to have a little apprehension.
As Lydia gazed out the window the officer that had escorted her had left. A few minutes later she found herself on the floor. "Hey!" Lydia exclaimed standing up. "Watch where you're going!" The man that had pushed her out of his way turned around and looked at her. His look turned into a bit of a glare. "Ah you're not worth my time." He then walked away.
Strange. Lydia thought as she brushed off her uniform. She was actually expecting some sort of fight. Though she was glad nothing broke out she found herself slightly offended that she wasn't worth a good fight. She let out a sigh as she picked up her bag and lifted it on her shoulder. "Should I be looking forward to any first contact?"
With that said she turned and headed to the mess for something to drink.

Sharpay shimmered into view aboard the transported pad of Starbase 121. She glanced around the room as she repositioned her bag on her shoulder. She smiled as she stepped off the platform and walked up to the control console to speak to the transporter operator. "Think next time you could be a little more efficient at your job?" Sharpay nearly snapped. She had been waiting for quite sometime to be beamed aboard, and patience was not one of her best virtues.
Pulling out a PADD from the pocket of her bag she quickly skimmed over it as she exited the transporter room. It looked like she'd be staying here for just a little bit. Well that was fine, heaven knows she could use the time to rest up a bit. However, for now Sharpay decided to venture forth and see what was going on around here. Slipping the PADD back into her bags pocket she walked out and headed to the mess.
From the looks of it all the Starfleet officers were congrating there. Here goes nothing I suppose. Sharpay thought as she pushed her way through the crowd. "Root beer, and rush it please." Sharpay directly ordered. As she waited she scanned the place. Her eyes rested on an Andorian in a gold uniform. Hadn't she read someplace that one was supposed to be aboard the Orion?
After her drink arrived Sharpay took it in hand and walked up to the woman.
"Enjoying yourself?" Sharpay asked before taking a sip of her drink.

Thanos looked back and blinked at the female that had come up to their table. His eyes were naturally suspicious yet curious at the same time. He looked at his aunt questioning, his antennae twitching in odd directions as was hers. She smiled a little before looking back to Sharpay and studied her for a moment. She was either Engineering, Operations or Tactical and/or Security. Krymerik cocked her head slightly, her white hair falling a little in consequence, "As only one can," she replied vaguely before lazily gesturing to the spare seat. Thanos returned his attentions to the window and watched as a runabout sped by, his eyes wide with open curiosity ad amazement.
"Yourself, Ensign?" she asked, peering a little to see what rank the woman was at. Sometimes, she had trouble distinguishing one pinkskin from another, they all looked so alike.

Sharpay knew the other woman was studying her. It was a bit obvious, the way she was looking at her. Also growing up Sharpay had quickly learned to read peoples faces, and body movements. All part of staying alive. Sharpay tilted her head a bit, just for a moment as she too studied Krymerik. Krymerik had taken Sharpay a bit by surprise when she gestured to the empty seat. Sharpay mentally shrugged and slid into it.
"Yourself, Ensign?"
"Oh I'm fine I suppose. Still a little annoyed from having to wait quite a bit for transport, but other than that..." Sharpay sort of stopped there as she thought back for a moment. She hadn't waited for a reply, well not that she needed one,but still...
Sharpay looked at Krymerik then at the other Andorian that seemed to be in her company. "So,what slaughter house are you destined to?" Sharpay asked almost dryly addressing the both of them since she suspected they were together.

Amusing, she mused to herself as she listened to Sharpay, "Better to wait than find you're missing three digits or plus one limb," she returned idly, feeling her response wasn't actually required. Krymerik had a tendency to piss people off with her attitude. But she was good at what she did and she wasn't a bad guardian either for Thanos.
Thanos of which looked back at Sharpay and then grinned with a prideful glint in his eyes, it looked almost deadly for his age. he wasn't that old, about seven to eight by appearances. Krymerik caught his expression and chuckled, "Go on, sport," she encouraged, social interaction was a good skill to have, "Though I don't know what you mean by 'slaughterhouse'. Her expression said otherwise.
"We're off to the Orion! Kry is Tac Chief!" he said happily before blissfully forgetting her again and looking back to the oh so wonderful view.

"Better to wait than find you're missing three digits or plus one limb,"
Sharpay had found that comment somewhat amusing, perhaps maybe because it might have been something she may have said herself. Either way she did grin at it. Although she also found herself giving a little shrug to the comment.Perhaps it was just to show acknowledgment...she didn't exactly know.
The Andorian boy for only a moment almost filled Sharpay with a bit of fear. She was not exactly all that used to children, much less those that weren't Human. That was one field Sharpay had no experience in. The field of children. The reason her fear didn't stay was the excitement in his voice.
"We're off to the Orion! Kry is Tac Chief!"
Sharpay quickly turned and looked at Krymerik. "What a coincidence. I've been assigned to that vessel too. One of the engineers." Sharpay admitted as she took another sip of her root beer. She then crossed her legs under the table, and slouched a bit in the chair getting into a more comfortable position.
"Ensign Sharpay Harper."

"What a coincidence. I've been assigned to that vessel too. One of the engineers."
"How unfortunate," she smiled, her expression stating the opposite despite the spoken negative. Krymerik didn't like obvious answers half the time, and she loved confusing people. It was surprising easy, though she had never taken psychology, but she did have a friend and a room mate both studying it back at the Academy.
She smiled, "Lieutenant Commander Krymerik zh'Loran" she replied dutifully and glanced towards Thanos, "And that runt's Thanos, my borther's child," she smiled a little. The boy just shrugged.

"How unfortunate,"
Sharpay tried to hide a grin that was creeping up. "I know right? It's such a pity." Sharpay gave a fake little sigh. "I had hoped I could get assigned to a garbage scowl, but starfleet insisted on the Orion, and you know how persistent they can be." Sharpay traced the rim of her glass with her right index finger curious as to what kind of a response she would get.
"Lieutenant Commander Krymerik zh'Loran" "And that runt's Thanos, my borther's child,"
Sharpay gave a curt nod. "Nice to meet you." A curious expression crossed her face and mind briefly. "If it's not too personal, why are you bringing your nephew? Don't you think he'd miss his friends and parents on this undoubtedly long mission?"

James had just finished taking a quick peek around the new ship he would be serving on, he was only able to take a quick peek as he wasn't suppose to be on board for another 16 hours.
After getting a glimpse of the ship, he decided it was time to see if he could find the captain or any of the other crew members. He thought to himself that the most likely place to find any of them would be at the mess or on the observation deck. He decided to check out the mess first as he hadn't eaten in the last 12 hours, and was starting to feel famished.
James walked into the mess and noticed that a bunch of starfleet officers were all crowded near one particular port hole and by the looks of it, it was the one looking straight at the USS Orion. He walked over towards the crowd and a familiar face caught his eye, actually he didn't know her at all, he only knew her by the personnel file, he had studied every single one and knew everything to letter as it was the way of the Klingon's.
He approached Sharpay and noticed that another officer he had read of was sitting next to her, along with a young boy. He asked "May I sit here?".

A few minutes later, after Sharpay had finished asking her question a shadow had been cast down upon the table. Then there was a voice. Sharpay looked up to find a Klingon officer. No,wait,Klingon Human hybrid... Sharpay corrected in thought as she took notice of the ridges. Sharpay tried to take a quick glance at the pips, but from how she was sitting the task was a bit difficult.
Sharpay simply shrugged before taking another sip and speaking."It's a free universe." She replied to his question about joining them at the table. Personally she didn't care either way.
"So..." Sharpay began. "Who might you be and what brings you to this semi lonely little corner of the universe?" It was not often Sharpay saw anyone with Klingon blood in a Starfleet uniform. The only two she knew of had been Worf and B'Elanna Torres.

"If it's not too personal, why are you bringing your nephew? Don't you think he'd miss his friends and parents on this undoubtedly long mission?"
Krymerik frowned, finding the question a little too peering. She generally liked her privacy and that went for her nephew regardless of his opinion. He was too young to have a worry for opinion of anything serious. Sometimes, pinkskin curiosity got over their proverbial boots. She settled for raising an brow and replied thickly, "That would be a little hard, Ensign."
Thankfully the interuption of what appeared to be a Klingon male was welcomed and she peered at him a moment. Hm, she mused, He looks a bit odd for a Klingon... must be the cranium. She stretched her shoulders as Thanos now grew bored with the scenery and chose to be the proverbial pest, trying to sit on Krymerik's lap. Needless to say she wasn't enamoured with the idea. She may be good with children but there was a line with her. "Sit, like a normal lad, eh?" she said, "That's what Guardsmen do," she added. Bingo! and then frowned at the human phrase she had silently cried when Thanos obeyed and sat. She had been around pinkskins too long. She found it too tedious to correct her use of pinkskin. She never bothered.
She rolled her eyes, "Hardly little," she said, before she too peered to see what rank he was at best. She wasn't sure she recognised him but she had come from Riker's command, the Titan, so new faces were to be expected. Which reminded her, she had to send a message to Dr. Ree soon.

Once at the mess Lydia went up and ordered some coffee, black. With mug in had she took a drink. The warm liquid always gave her a calming sensation...not to mention it tasted good. At least in her own personal opinion it did. Lydia stared out at the crowd of people.
One bunch stuck out quite a bit. Klingon,Human, and two Andorians. That was a bit of an unusual species mix. Lydia decided to keep her distance at the moment. She wished to observe further. Lydia couldn't much help her curiosity. She might have gone over if she hadn't been expecting a call from Starfleet command.
As usual business always had to come first, well alright maybe not all the time. Her eyes then drifted past over a few others. Soon Lydia had finished her coffee...it was just about the same time a junior officer came up to her and fed some information. Lydia gave a nod,put down her cup,and followed the officer.
Fortunately they past the group Lydia had watched a bit before hand. She held up her left hand at them, and smiled. "Excuse us." She said as she quickly passed.
