It had been a long day in the shuttle as James approached Earth. He then requested docking clearance at the Earth star base. With given clearance he entered shuttle bay 3.
Once aboard the star base he then proceeded to the nearest transporter room where he was beamed down to the surface, which happened to be star fleet medical. James made his way to the intensive care section where his father was being treated.
Upon arriving he was greeted by his mother who looked extremely glad to see him. She ran up to him and gave him a big hug, James instinctively hugged back holding his mother tight, he felt her loosen up as he could tell she was under a lot of stress. They continued into the room where his father was being held, he approached his father and leaned down to his side. His father looked over to him and with a soft voice said "son...is that you...?", James spoke up and replied "yes father, it's me James, how are you feeling?" he knew his father wouldn't tell him the truth as he always tried to protect James from everything. His father had even tried to stop him from joining Star fleet.
His father spoke "I'm fine...*cough*...just a little cold *cough...cough*, I'll be fine, don't you worry about me...". Just then a nurse walked over and looked at his status, then looked at James and his mother signaling them out into the hall she told them that his father only had a few hours left before he would pass away.
James spent the next three hours beside his father watching as his condition deteriorated. With his fathers last breath he added "son...I'm proud of you...", with that his eyes closed and he went quiet".
James mother looked at him and started to cry, James went over and let her cry on his shoulder. Once finished they went over to his mothers house, but upon arrival they were greeted by Admiral Janeway, she seemed very happy to see him for some reason. Although she was a very close family friend he didn't expect to see her before the funeral. She had come to pay last respects.
With that the admiral left James and his mother. James then made his way into his parents house, where he made his way up to his old room, his things where over in the corner as they had been beamed directly down from the star base as per James request. He hadn't packed much as he knew the Orion was only going to be docked for a couple days. Although the captain had given him as much time as he wanted, he wanted to be back before the Orion departed. James then went to bed.
James had slept very well and was feeling refreshed, he went downstairs to the kitchen where he met his mother who had prepared them breakfast. It looked very good, his mother didn't use replicators she didn't care much for them. They didn't even have a replicator in the house. After they ate his mother announced "I've been informed your fathers funeral has been pushed to two weeks from now." James looked surprised, he knew he couldn't stay that long, and by the look on his mothers face he knew that she knew. With that James replied "I will be heading back to the Orion in a few minutes, unless you would like me to stay here." She gave him the sign to go, he knew that she would understand, she always did.
James beamed aboard the star base where he boarded his shuttle and headed back to the Orion. Upon approach of the star base where the Orion has docked he requested "McNight to Orion request permission to dock in shuttle bay 1?".
