History/Background/Education
Ensign Digby is the youngest of the Science Department's commissioned officers. Born as the only child of a writer of Holonovels and his wife, she's not a Starfleet child. Nevertheless, exceptionally bright, enthusiastic and intelligent as she was, she entered Starfleet Academy one year ahead of others of her age, and graduated on schedule with first-class honours. Taking an interest in social science, she specialised in Planetary Research as a Science Officer, but she also took classes in other fields of the Science Department.
Rose was teased in Starfleet Academy for being younger than most of her fellow Cadets, but she made a few good friends there with whom she's still in contact. Very enthusiastic, she was always up for some extracurricular activities - some less to the liking of the Academy's staff than others - with her friends, although she always let her studies go first. She found it difficult to relax while the examinations were still ahead of her, fearing she'd miss some vital detail.
Rose's assignment on-board the Orion is her first assignment. It has made her and her parents very nervous that it is such a long and far away assignment. Nevertheless, she is eager to prove herself despite missing her parents.
It does not need to be super long or very complex.
Personality Profile:
Rose is brilliant. Intelligent and imaginative, she is one of Starfleet's brightest minds, with great potential. Although there is a reason that she graduated from the Academy at her age, she doesn't see it, becoming extremely nervous when put under pressure and fearing she will fall short of the mark in everything she does on-duty. This lack of self-confidence leads to her keeping silent about brilliant ideas for fear of things going wrong.
Her inquisitive nature and broad area of interest have led her to be curious about almost anything, leading her to punch buttons to get all the sensor data whenever she is on Bridge duty. It also makes it difficult for her to come up with the right questions for a targetted scientific inquiry if it's not holistic or very broad in nature.
Ensign Digby has a friendly and outgoing personality, with a good sense of humour and a sharp wit, making friends easily and wishing to be friends with everyone. She has a measure of disrespect for authority (though not enough for punishment!), though limited to a few cheeky jokes about the Captain and a relaxed attitude towards Crewmen working under her. A big supporter of social activities for the crew, Rose is very active in the ship's Social Initiatives Group, helping come up with new ideas to bring the crew together.
Though very socially-minded, Rose is not a great leader. This is due in part due to her being too familiar with those working under her, and a hesitation to take the lead too assertively for fear of it all going wrong. Being too informal and casual with those working under her and regarded by them as a lightweight (due to her soft voice and her age), she sometimes fails to get them under control for the simplest tasks, such as lining up in the corrider for Captain Prince's farewell.
A rare sight in the space age, Rose was raised an Anglican Christian. Though her beliefs are quite liberal, she often prays for support when she needs it, finding support in the notion that God cares about everyone and will protect her as she explores the universe.
Rose misses her parents, and often feels a bit homesick when she thinks of them, trying not to do it. Despite her enthusiasm for discovering new things, she knows that when in the Delta Quadrant, communications with home will be difficult.
Any Special Notes:
- Particularly active in the Social Initiatives Group, Digby has often been the accomplice of Lieutenant JG Huygens in some of her initiatives, most famously throughout the ship as the object of ire that prompted newly-promoted Commander Hughes into going to his surprise promotion party.
- Digby is the youngest among the Science Department's commissioned officers and is the target of some of her fellow Officers' jokes. Often when she makes a mistake, the others rebuke her with a witty remark and a smile.
- In Lisa Huygens' posts, Digby is the standard target for a rebuke (among others when she failed to get her crewmen in line for the Transfer of Command Ceremony and when afterwards she called Captain Tiho snappin' spotty").
- Rose's second name, Merrill, means "shining sea" in Irish Gaelic.
- Her second name is a nod towards the character of Merrill in Dragon Age 2, who shares some of Rose's characteristics, although I didn't think of it before working out that she was born in Wales.

Role-Play Sample: Please post a 1-3 paragraph role-play sample as your character. It can be about anything you want.
(OOC: Sorry for the long RP sample, I was full of inspiration. I am going to post this in the Bridge before approval, as it sort of takes place in that thread.)
Secret Word In The Rules: PM the real secret word in the rules to all the admins. DO NOT post it here. I believe I PMed it to you guys using Chris, by accident. Hope it's no problem.

A fairly uneventful shift on the Bridge did not exist in Rose Digby's dictionary. Even if they were just cruising along, her broad interest always gave the eager young science officer something to do, or more like: she gave herself something to do. Punching all the buttons on her console, she saw a lot of sensor information. She could lose herself in all that information. "Rose," came the somewhat irritated voice of Lieutenant Francis from Ops. "You're doing it again."
Ensign Digby snapped awake from her scientific daydreams, murmuring "oh, sorry" in a soft voice that Lieutenant Francis probably didn't hear. It wasn't too good on the consoles and the Bridge crew's concentration too, she knew, but it was a sort of tic and she couldn't help it. Here I am, a Starfleet Officer, she thought. And I act like a child in a sweetshop every time I am on Bridge duty. Her punches on the buttons just became silent taps, and she switched to the "spatial anomalies" view, expecting to see nothing. Suddenly, something stood out. It seemed like something dangerous to her, almost like a wormhole. Immediately, she alerted the officer of the watch to get the Captain out of the briefing.
Or at least she tried to alert the officer of the watch, but her nerves got the better of her and she could only stammer. "There's an.. er...," she started. "Anomaly. Looks like a wormhole. Perhaps, er... we should get the..." The ship shook wildly, and Rose was almost thrown of her feet. "Ouch," she said. "Captain," she finished her now obsolete sentence. The voice of Captain Tiho came over the comm now, asking what had happened. The conn officer answered: they were in the Delta Quadrant.
Her enthusiasm got the better of her, punching all the buttons at Science even though power was at 20% to the sensor array. One by one, the Senior Staff came dashing out of the briefing room, and took control of the Bridge. Ensign Harper fixed the power, much to Rose's delight, and she wanted to be the first to get the data on the Delta Quadrant. Caught up in her curiosity, she did not notice that Lisa Huygens had come up to her station until she said: "Welcome to the Delta Quadrant, Ensign Digby. I trust you are enjoying yourself?"
Rose stammered. "I was just, er...," she started, noting her encounters with Lisa that day as being not entirely positive. Lisa, however, surprisingly, gave her a reassuring smile and nod, and told her she was excited. "Though punching buttons won't help," she told her. "Let's see if we can find something out about the Delta Quadrant together."
More at ease now, Rose relaxed and softly said: "Alright."
