"Captain," "Thank you for all you have done for me since I boarded the Orion. Without you... I'd never have reached the point where I am now."
Lydia didn't think that to be true. Not for even a microsecond. Christian Hughes was a bright officer, and a good person. Lydia didn't think that she had done all that much, except for care, and she cared about each and every one of them.
"I feel a bit nervous, Captain," "I've read Captain Tiho's service record, and it should be alright, but still..." "I'll miss you, Captain," "As a friend."
"Now you know that's not true. You're a capable officer, and I don't pass off special treatment. You would have come as far with or without me. I can understand your being nervous, it's only natural. Most people don't like change, especially when things are sailing along just fine. Sometimes change can make you feel like you lost something, but it's how you handle changes as well as challenges that can help make you a stronger person. You'll get through it."
Lydia placed her pack on the ground and gave Commander Hughes a hug. "I'll miss you too."
Lydia waved everyone over. She wasn't going to leave without a proper hug from any of them either.

Speeches always unnerved Mishtak, he was not a fan of them, in his society they were replaced with songs or stories of great deeds, much mutual grunting, growling and fighting and in situations such as transfers of command the Captains were required to walk the gauntlet of pain sticks held by their senior officers, and even though he had his with him he had no intention of using it.
When Captain Prince called them forward he pulled the pain stick out from under his robe, it was a ceremonial one he had brought with him, it had been held by his father during his right of passage into adulthood, and today he would pass it onto the Captain as a reminder of the honor she had earned while in command of the Orion.
As he stepped closer he saw she was going to be doing her hugging thing and was unsure how he felt about that, a glance out the corner of his eye spotted Sharpay looking distracted, he assumed she disliked speeches as well.

Now that all the warm fuzzy hugs were out of the way, Captain Prince was bound to be off now. Unless of course they wanted to play a waiting game with the other ship. Who can go the longest without giving a hail? Sounded fun. Maybe they should try it sometime...just to see what would happen. Well...back to now. Sharpay, like everyone else just waited.

Seemed like all were getting restless now. They all did have things to do, not to mention their nerves might be jittery because of getting a new captain. "You aren't going to poke me with that are you?" Retorical question really. Lydia knew her crew better than that. So she had hoped. Let's get this show on the road.

"You aren't going to poke me with that are you?"
"It is customary for a Captain to be, poked as you say, with pain sticks by their senior officers upon transfer of command. This is not a Klingon vessel but you are as honorable as any Klingon that has had songs written of them..."
He held the ceremonial pain stick out to the captain.
"..And so I present you with this as a sign of that honor."
He bowed his head slightly as he offered the stick to the captain, he was fairly certain that no one had expected this gesture, as it appeared he was the only one that had brought her a departing gift.

Lydia accepted the pain stick with a genuine smile. "Thank you lieutenant." Lydia looked at the pain stick then back up at Mishtak. "I'll cherish it." Captain Prince then gave Mishtak a light pat on the back. "Qapla'." Captain Prince picked up her bag and was now back on the transporter. She was ready.

Lisa, always thoughtful as she was, had organised something for the Captain, and she would not let Captain Prince leave without it. Together with Ensign Digby, she had conspired to send the Captain away from a senior staff meeting, buying them just enough time to all sign their names and farewell messages onto a replicated but hand-painted miniature of the Orion, which she would present to Captain Prince.
"Captain!" she said, taking a step towards the transporter pad. "I have something for you, from all of us." She smiled. "To thank you for everything you've done for us." She presented the beautifully painted miniature (courtesy of herself and Christian's autistic eye for detail) to the Captain.

"Captain!"
Lydias' eyes darted to the assistant chief science officer. Lisa Huygens. She had been pretty quiet until now. She was also quite the thoughtful person. Lydia would not forget the party that the crew had held or how she had also help a bit when Christian was promoted. No secrets on a ship this small.
"I have something for you, from all of us." "To thank you for everything you've done for us."
Captain Prince accepted the gift. "Why it's lovely." Lydia looked at the detail, and names. "It has to be one of the thoughtful and realistic gift I've ever gotten." Lydia looked back to Lisa, then her crew. "Thank you, all of you. I have been blessed with so much more than I deserve."

Christian smiled as Captain Prince accepted the gift, but that smile quickly faded as he realised it was time for the Captain to go. It was his duty now to initiate the next part of the ceremony: calling the new Captain in and saluting the leaving Captain.
"Captain Prince," he said. "Thank you for everything, and all the best. Lieutenant Francis?" He looked towards Harold over at the transporter console. "All set, Commander," said Lieutenant Francis. "At your command, Captain."
Christian spoke up, towards the Senior Staff. "The Captain is disembarking," he said in a raised voice. "Let's all see her out with the respect due to her rank, according to protocol." That meant: attention. All turned towards the Captain and made the customary salutes. Probably Lydia would dislike it, Christian thought, but it was part of the protocol.
To call in Captain Tiho, Christian tapped his commbadge. "Desta," he said. "This is Hughes. We are ready to receive Captain Tiho."

Bag over her shoulder, small ship in one hand, pain stick in the other, Captain Prince stood ready to go. The send off had been a good one. The crew had done well. Hopefully loyalty, and friendship like this would form with the new captain. Lydia looked at her now former crew one last time, and smiled before the transporter swept her away in a dazzling shimmer of blue.
End Lydia.

//"Desta," "This is Hughes. We are ready to receive Captain Tiho."//
With those words, as Captain Prince disappeared from the transporter pad, Captain La'Mara Tiho rematerialized on another. The transfer was now officially complete. La'Mara looked out at the assembled crew in the transporter room; whom she suspected to be the senior officers of the Orion. She herself had, had a send off from the Desta with the senior staff in their transporter room. It was only logical.
"Hello." La'Mara said pleasantly to all the unfamiliar crew now under her command, as she stepped down off the platform. She had the chance to go over their personnel files before boarding, so La'Mara had a pretty good idea what face went with what name and rank. Truth be admitted, she was a little nervous, however she would not show it to any of the crew. Unprofessional. Especially for a first meet. However, Captain Tiho supposed they must be feeling every bit of nervous as she. It was not an easy thing to adjust to new crew, much less a new captain. Surly she'd be different than Captain Prince, and they'd be different from the crew she had been so used to working with and alongside.
"As I suspect all of you know, I'm Captain Tiho, and I now assume command of the Orion, per orders from Starfleet Command." If that was not to the point, La'Mara didn't know what was. She did know what she wanted to do though. "I want all senior officers to report to the briefing room in ten minutes. We have some things to discuss. Everyone else can go about their business."
La'Mara knew she might have come off sounding a little bit too firm or bossy at the moment, but she had her reasons. She also needed a way to gage crew reactions. It seemed like the right way to get a reaction of some sort; aside from that, a person just promoted to captain and given a ship could not step on all soft, unsure, and let the crew lead them. They needed to know that she was going to lead, and had confidence. If a captain lacked confidence so would their crew. None of which would be a good thing.
"Ten minutes." La'Mara reminded. Why ten minutes? Well, she needed to first drop off her things, and it would give her new commander as well as the others a wee bit of time to adjust.

Sharpay looked the new captain up and down. A Trill obviously. Was she joined? Hmm. She looked a little young to be a captain of a Starfleet vessel. So, they had a petite, strawberry blonde, baby faced Trill captain. How would this work? Only time could really tell.
At least Captain Tiho said 'hello' with a pleasant tone of voice...friendly like. But that didn't mean anything; especially after the orders given. Ten minutes they had to be in the briefing room. Well, okay. That was not too unusual. It was just the tone of voice that Sharpay didn't much care for. She'd been rubbed somewhat the wrong way, and didn't want to even give Captain Tiho a chance. Orders were orders though.
"Whatever you say, captain." Sharpay said as she exited the transporter room.
She had to be ready for the briefing.

Captain Prince was gone. Embarking on who knows what; who knows where. At the same time she had left, their new captain; Captain Tiho appeared. The Trill woman didn't waste a moment letting them all know she was boss; or did her best. After serving with Captain Prince a while getting used to a new captain would be a big adjustment for all of them. Not a happy adjustment either.
Though things could get better. Xena supposed the reason for their new captain's behavior was nervousness. A thing like that generally was. They'd have to get used to each other. Xena already could see that Ensign Sharpay Harper was not fond of Captain Tiho right off. Sharpay didn't exactly keep it a secret what she thought about a person, and also after hanging together and being on missions Xena had gotten well versed in how she and others felt by how they moved or acted.
Truthfully, Xena didn't much care for their new captain either. However, per orders Xena said "Yes, ma'am." As she left to go about her duties. Being the assistant she was not required to attend the briefing.

Captain Tiho's appearance caused in Christian Hughes a reaction by his nerves, and he had to force himself to keep looking at the transporter pad where Captain Tiho materialised. His nerves were calmed somewhat, though, by Captain Tiho's pleasant greeting. He intended to return it, but before he could do so, the Captain ordered them all to report to the briefing room for a Senior Staff briefing in ten minutes.
Taken aback by the unconventionality of making the first order after just seconds in command, Christian took some time to recover himself, before he said: "Welcome aboard, Captain Tiho. I'm Commander Christian Hughes, First Officer. We're all looking forward to working with you." He kept a respectful demeanour as he acknowledged the order. "We'll see you in ten minutes then, ma'am. I'll make the preparations."
Saluting the Captain, Christian went to the turbolift with the rest and went up to the Bridge, silencing some junior crew members on the way who were gossiping about the new Captain. They hastily apologised.

That could have gone better. Trishany thought after Captain Tihos' orders and the crews reaction to them. Had Trish not been a Betazoid she too might have taken a little bit of an offense to the unconventional, firm orders after a sweet hello. Lieutenant Rei knew the reason for the behavior. So, it was easy to just drop and forget. Besides, things would get better. Right now though she, like a few of the others took her leave.
The briefing was for the senior officers, as most were. Trish was sure Lieutenant Jones would let her know of anything she needed to. Off to sickbay.
End Trishany
