Captain Tiho was beamed down with the rest of the away team at set coordinates. The place was pretty amazing. They sure had magnificent scenery! La'Mara was very tempted to take out her tricorder and began scans, but she thought it best to wait for their guide or one of the other natives. "Some of the scenery reminds me of places Trenton has been." Tiho couldn't help but comment semi-merrily. She had told the others to exercise caution, which meant she had to as well.

The first thing Xena did after arriving on the planet was pull out her tricorder and begin scanning. She even took the liberty of widening the scan radius. They were told to exercise caution. Xena didn't know about everyone else, but that was what she was going to do. She was also going to make certain that the whole away team stayed safe.
Didn't Captain Tiho say back on the ship that this species had been to their quadrant? Well, that the case, that would mean they just might also know how to penetrate their defenses. Xena would not be taking any chances. She was pretty sure Lieutenant Mishtak was thinking along the same front.
"Some of the scenery reminds me of places Trenton has been."
Goodness she sounded chipper about that. "Who knows captain, maybe that will help with this first contact." Xena didn't really know much else to say about that comment, so she just let it lie. "What do the rest of you think?"

"What do the rest of you think?"
"Well it seems pretty nice. I think we should be cautious aside from that, lets get first contact going underway. If they turn out to keep being friendly this would be such a bad place to visit. Nice architecture and seemingly advanced, or comparable to the Federation at least. "
He looked around for Guide Yenos and did not see him. How incredibly odd that one would beam down to given coordinates and their hosts not be there to greet them. His hand went to his phasor. He did not draw it, just kept his hand there like a young child that clutches to a blanket for comfort.

The beam down went as always, uneventful, but what was puzzling was the lack of a guide or any indigenous peoples to greet them. Seeing Xena go instantly to her tricorder he knew she would alert them to any dangers, he then saw Larkin reach for his phaser and hold there as if expecting trouble... Mishtak stepped over to him and spoke quietly...
"Are you sure you chose the correct profession?"
thinking Larkin would have made a good security officer, and not for the first time...
"Cross training is always an option..."
he added as an after thought and then drew his tricorder, to double check readings for his own personal satisfaction. The captain commented on someone having seen places like this and he knew it was in reference to a past host, that was going to take some getting used too...

"Are you sure you chose the correct profession?"
"Remember the Federations war with the Cardassians? Pre Dominion alliance? I fought in that war. I was a pilot for drop off ships, cardies blasted down my ship and me and a platoon of federation personnel were stuck behind enemy lines for three weeks. Fourteen of us crashed, six of us made it back, including me. We had to fight to live Lieutenant. Am I in teh wrong profession, no. Pilots like me that keep ships of people alive." He said quietly back to Mishtak
"Cross training is always an option..."
"Now that is always an option. As long as I learn from the best, which is to say you Lieutenant, then I would happily receive cross training." Larking said with his hand still on his phasor looking around for still absent greeting. This is beginning to look like a very undesirable situation.

Guide Yenos materialised a few minutes later. He looked around, as if to take in all the scents around him, then took a step towards the party. "Welcome to Rathr," he said gently, although he did not smile. But as he spoke, a soft, welcoming and sweet scent suddenly came from his direction, as if he were sweating but without the smell.
"Pray follow me," he said, motioning for the group to follow. "I shall take you to meet our High Circle."

The officers started conversing; not unexpected in the least. At least they were getting along! Though seeing someones hand rest near their phaser did concern La'Mara just a little bit. But everyone was a little nervous, even she was, but surly nothing bad was going to happen. Alright, no person to greet them was a bit odd, however who were they to judge this culture that they knew nothing about? They had no right. "Take it easy all." La'Mara said to her officers in a kindly way. Their guide had finally arrived.
"Welcome to Rathr,"
Captain Tiho stepped forward and smiled a gentle smile. "We're delighted to be here." She said diplomatically, with a tone of soft cheer. A new experience. La'Mara rather delighted in new things; phenomena to experience. She was also quite thankful for their arrival as the crew had seemed to get a bit uneasy without it.
"Pray follow me," "I shall take you to meet our High Circle."
"Certainly." La'Mara looked to the officers on the away team then to their guide as she followed. I wonder if the high circle is their government... Suppose we'll find out soon enough... "If you don't mind my asking," La'Mara started in gently as she started to slide her fingers slowly; lacing an unlacing them as she walked. "you said that you've been to the Alpha Quadrant. How is that possible?" Curiosity clearly hung in her voice.

Yenos heard the curiosity in Captain Tiho's voice, and quickly added one and one into two. He knew already that they had been sucked through a wormhole. "Trying to get home, Tiho Guide of the Orion?" he asked, as the scent changed to something nobody could pin down, a mixture of all kinds of smells. "We came to a portal, just like you did, although ours is more stable." He motioned on as they came to a kind of floral garden with a round circle of benches in the middle. "Come."
A group of elder Rathren sat in the circle. The oldest among them, an old man with a nose that was even larger than Yenos's and a moustache of a matching size, rose and stretched out his hands in a welcoming gesture as the soft, welcoming and sweet smell that Yenos had emitted earlier filled the air.
"Welcome, visitors," he said. "Your scent graces this planet."

"The orignal plan was to make a stable gateway possible. Unfortunatly things didn't work how they were suppose to, which is why we are here now." La'Mara explained. "Though I guess it's not all bad, if we didn't have our misfortune we would not have had the chance to make new friends." La'Mara told Yenos with a smile. Miss Sunshine or Miss Look on the bright side; those words could describe her the majority of the time. That didn't mean she was smiles all the time.
A portal? Could that be their word for wromhole?
Not too soon they were in a garden of sorts. It was very beautiful. Being curious, and one that liked plants, La'Mara used her eyes to looked at the lovely scenery as she approached the circle. Knights of the round table is one thing that came to mind.
"Welcome, visitors," he said. "Your scent graces this planet."
"Thank you for allowing us to be here." The winds seemed to change... "May I introduce some of my crew," La'Mara turned slightly to where she was facing the circle and her crew. She gestured to then with her hand as she stated their names. "Lieutenant Mishtak, Lieutenant Xena, Lieutenant Lisa Huygens, and Lieutenant Commander Larkin Reinhardt."

As the Guide appeared, Larkin removed his hand from his phasor. Tiho and Yenos began talking. He listened as the walked and took in the scenery. The planet was very peaceful and even beautiful, who knows maybe even comparable to Betazed. As they kept walking something new came wafting in the air. He could not put his finger on it but it was something, many things, brought on by the mention of home.
As they approached this table Larkin saw Elderly looking Rathren. They were once more greeted by that lovely scent that greeted them originally. Ok, so he was wrong, yes they were friendly. His mistake. He listened as La'mara introduced her away team. When Larkin was introduced he uncharacteristically smiled and waved at them. The first time anyone has seen him smile.

He was about to say something more when their guide arrived, along with an undefined odor that Mishtak struggled to endure without making faces. Klingon noses were more sensitive than human ones, although it appeared not as sensitive as these people's...
They followed Yenos to meet the 'circle', whatever that was and came to garden with a circle of benches in the middle, A new scent arrived and again Mishtak said nothing but switched settings on his tricorder, it detected the faint presence of pheromones and other scent oriented particles, but nothing he could make sense of at the moment. After his scan he closed his tricorder and placed it back in it's holster on his hip. They were greeted by one of the elder men...
"Welcome, visitors. Your scent graces this planet."
The captain made introductions and when she got to Mishtak he bowed his head slightly in recognition but said nothing, mainly because all the scents around them were beginning to get overwhelming and he was afraid if he spoke he would lose his concentration on attempting to ignore the more repugnant scents...
All his warrior training was for nothing at this moment, it was back to the basics of a hunter, one who was able to track his prey based on scent as well as sight or hearing. He was having difficulty with the change of scents but the wave of... everything... is what caused him the most discomfort, he hoped none of the others were aware of it as he would be embarrassed if it came to light, for now he would simply suck it up and carry on...

Xena hadn't bothered to get into a conversation. She had just kept on with the scans as the silence, except for them, had made her a little on edge. Ever since she was young Xena never much cared when things felt 'too quiet'. It would take her back in time to unpleasant memories of her past. Thankfully the guide had showed up.
As they walked Xena still continued to scan and stay quiet. She figured, at the moment it would be best to let Captain Tiho speak. Soon, on their walk they came to the 'circle'. An older looking man welcomed them, then after Tiho introduced them. When Xena was introduced she smiled lightly, and said; "Hello."

Lisa looked around her with a sense of wonder as they materialised on the planet. The whole world was so pure and green and vivid in colours, but more remarkably: it was vivid in smells. All around her, there were scents of such subtle nuance that the human nose couldn't even begin to master. She went around, looking around, until Guide Yenos materialised, then followed him with the others to the Circle.
The Circle had to be some kind of governing body, Lisa deduced. Most likely it consisted of the oldest and wisest among the Rathren. There was another thing she noticed: the smells that differred as different messages were delivered. Was smell a communication method among the Rathren? It might explain a lot, such as why Yenos was utterly devoid of facial expression or body language.
"Greetings," she said, reining in her curiosity as she was introduced.

The elder didn't move, but the scent changed to something that resembled the smell of velvet, inducing respect, although the nuances were undetectable to the human nose or even Mishtak's Klingon nose. "Greetings," he said. "We are the Great Circle of Rathr, and I am Elder Guide S'bos of the Rathren people. Guide Yenos has told me," he looked at Guide Yenos, "that you are stranded in the Delta Quadrant. We'd be willing to help you, out of friendship and a genuine desire for peaceful cooperation."
The Elder Guide noticed Mishtak's discomfort. "Does our smell trouble you, Lieutenant?"

"Does our smell trouble you, Lieutenant?"
Obviously he had not done a very good job of hiding his discomfort...
"It is, a bit overwhelming sir..."
Trying his best not to offend his hosts. He had been slowly adjusting to the changing scents and as the extremely overpowering ones had subsided to what seemed to be, at least from a human point of view, more pleasant ones he was able to relax a bit more. He attempted to differentiate each of the Rathren by scent but was unable to do so, they must have their own way of telling one another apart...
"...As a hunter I rely on all my senses to keep myself fully alert."
It was the most simple explanation he could find, and hoped it would be suitable to the occasion, he was simply here as an observer and escort to the captain and her safety,he really didn't want to be in the main conversation especially if it was going to be about his sense of smell...
