The Basic Rules
Treatment Of Members:
As with the regular rules of this board-
Treat all members the same way you want to be treated.
That means, with respect and common courtesy. No flaming, bashing, or badmouthing anyone.
Content:
All content must be rated PG-13 or below. Of course, this is a Star Trek RP being destruction and violence are bound to happen. Just keep it within reason.
Basic Knowledge:
You should at least have some basic knowledge of the Star Trek world. No money exists,so there can be no middle class or upper class. Real alcohol is used for medical purposes only.It is not served aboard vessels in the mess hall.
Posts:
In all role play posts please write in the third person.
Example: After having turned command of the bridge over to her first officer Captain Prince walked and stepped into the turbolift doors when they opened to make her way to her quarters on deck three.
Also posts should be of reasonable length such as at least one paragraph or more. A simple paragraph consists of five sentences.
Double Posting:
Please refrain from doing so. Your character can not be in two places at once. It would be nice of you to wait at least 24 or 48 hours (1 or 2 days) for someone to respond before you post again or move onto another thread.
Font:
Please do not change the font size, make thoughts or speech in bold, change the color, and please no blockquotes. The font is the way it is for a reason. So it is readable for all people.
Characters:
If you already have a character with the rank of lieutenant commander and are a department head you may not be above the rank of lieutenant and/or be another department head.
If you are already in the medical field or security try a field different from the one you are already in. Also, feel free to try a civilian on for size and other species.
Also we’d like it if you kept your daily schedule in mind when applying for more characters. Ask yourself if you have the time to take on and play more characters.
If you don’t that’s fine, if you do, great. Just please take the time to think things through.
Absences & Character loss: Just because you log in does not mean you'll get to keep your position(s) in the role play.
If you are going to be away please post an absent thread, and write your character out of the role play. If you fail to write your character out, you give permission for us to do it for you.
If you are away for two months without explanation, your character will be NPC so we can keep things moving, and your position will be set to open.
If you come back and no one has taken your slot you will be welcome to have it back, that is if it's possible. If not, you're welcome to introduce a new character if you still want to role play.
For shorter absences such as two weeks, you can designate an active player you trust to RP your character(s) in your absence; which is of course optional. (The shorter absences rule is optional)
Character Species:
Be prepared to defend your race choice if it is strange. The staff team has the final say in whether or not you can play a certain species, since there are some - such as Q or 8472 - that are either too powerful or wouldn't make sense as a member of Starfleet. The same applies for hybrids. It is best to get permission from the administration before creating your race.
Avatar Images:
When you fill out your application please be sure to make certain the image and image link are uploaded to an image host like: photobucket, tinypic, etc.
Because direct linking a.k.a "hot linking" is illegal. If you don't have an account PM one of the staff and we will be happy to host your image for you.
Please make sure your avatar image is no wider than 175px in width.
Telepathy:
If you are a telepathic character you already give permission to talk telepathically with another telepath, but you may not read minds of other characters without their permission. You may give permission in an OOC post or via PM.
All telepathic characters have different abilities, and if your character is not telepathic don't forget that if you say that your character is emitting strong emotions in a post you are giving consent for any telepathic character to sense those emotions.
If a conversation is carried out telepathically please put the words in great than less than signs. < telepathic talk between these >
*Please note though that Cardassians are able to resist Vulcan mind melds so they are probably resistant to others probing their brain.
Out Of Character-OOC:
Please try to keep out of character posts out of role play posts unless it's absolutely necessary.
Example of necessary ooc: (OOC: Sorry this post is short but I'm rather low on time.) or (OOC: I won't be able to get online for a day or two so you may write around my character.) and (OOC: Permission was given to god-mod.)
The word is Oscar.
Grammar:
Now we all know not everyone is an English major or a super speller, but spelling and grammar is important so we can understand the posts a little better. So feel free to use the spell checker or type your post in Word.
Language:
Alright lets not go on a swearing rampage. While cuss words are used in Star Trek I'd like to keep it to a minimum range. Personally I'd prefer you use darn, dag nabbit or doggone it instead of the regular D word. Hell is O.K. but let's not tell others to go there often.
Net Talk:
There should be no net talk in your posts.
Example: lol,brb,c ya.
Words and numbers should be typed out if spoken.
Quotations:
Do not put quotation marks around what are supposed to be thoughts as it can be mistaken for dialogue. Please put all thoughts in italic using [/ i]
Communication:
Well in your posts you'll usually be talking face to face but if your character needs to contact someone via combadge please put these tags [ i ][ /i ] (without the spaces) around your comm post as well as //.
You may then post what you said in the thread the other character is in. Also please do the same for ship wide announcements.
Example: //Bridge to engineering.// or //All hands intruder alert!//
God-Modding:
God modding is when you speak or make a character that is not your own say or do something. If you extend your characters hand for a handshake and type that the other character shook your characters hand that is god modding. Wait for the other person to respond. God-Modding is only aloud if you are specifically given permission by the other person.
Tagging:
Tis simple really. Just simply Tag whom is to respond at the end of your post. More information can be found here. amungthestars.proboards106.com/index.cgi?board=ato&action=display&thread=31
Example: If I created a thread and anyone could respond I'd put Tag: Anyone.
Staff Decisions
Staff members discuss things together and will be very happy to discuss things with all our members. However once a decision is reached the outcome, answer, and decision are final. No more is to be said on whatever matter. Staff decisions are not up for negotiation once reached.
O.K. actually the word is Felix. This is just to make sure you read the rules...all of them.
