Mishtak entered the ready room, walked to the other side and leaned against the wall, waiting for Larkin to enter. He looked around, noticing for the first time that the decor had changed ever so slightly. He had to remind himself it was no longer Captain Prince's ready room but Captain Tiho's, a change he was still not fully adjusted to. Of course he was still getting used to Christian as first officer after the death of Commander McKnight, even though he should have been adjusted by now. It seemed to take him longer to adjust to change on a starfleet vessel than it ever had on a Klingon vessel.
As the doors close behind Larkin Mishtak would speak first, saying:
"What's on your mind?"

"What's on your mind?"
"Permission to speak freely sir?" Larkin asked as he straightened out his suit. He looked at mishtak meeting his gaze feeling that if he did not it might come off as dishonorable. That is something Larkin did not want, at all. And so it was that he and Mishtak were here in the ready room.

"Permission to speak freely sir?"
It was going to be one of those days after all...
"Of course you have permission to speak freely. Now what is it?"
Mishtak remained leaning against the wall, he wasn't sure he liked the new look but it seemed to fit the new captain so he just shrugged it off and kept his attention on Larkin. He wasn't sure what it was that Larkin needed to address in private but he hoped it would be quick, he had a cadet on the bridge acting as first officer, not something he wanted to leave alone for an extended period of time. He wondered if that might have something to do with this chat... Well, if that was the case he figured now was as good a time as any to let Larkin in on the whole picture...

"Of course you have permission to speak freely. Now what is it?"
"Sir, for what ever reason they leave you in charge of the bridge, which I can deal with and handle. Hell I think you do a great job, if you were to pursue a career in Starfleet and somehow managed to make Captain before me I would even serve under you. I think you have that quality." Larkin stated and put his fingers to his temple as if he was having some sort of distress.
"With that said Sir, what the hell are you thinking putting a cadet as first officer? That does not sit well with me, am I being reprimanded and I not know it? Did I do something to offend the rest of the senior staff? I just failing to understand the lack of the chain of command. If the captain leaves it falls to the commander, if both leave as is the case now it falls to the next highest rank in the Command structure, which last I check unless some pips fell off, should have been me sir."
"Please not that I am not dismayed with you, but I've gotta express my concern about such things. If I did not voice my opinion than I would not be a very good member of this crew. I just want to know of this matter will be address, and this will sound terribly Klingon of me, but there is no better way than one to be noticed than to be in the "Chair" and if I am never left in Command it is hard to show that quality." Larkin sighs and shrugs as if he has just broken under Cardassian interrogation.
"Forget it. Forget everything I said, lets just get back to the Bridge before the cadet has us crashing into a hell class planet." Larkin said and begin to turn around and head out.

"I have never been one that is good at taking compliments, but I thank you for that."
He was waiting for the other shoe to drop...
"With that said Sir, what the hell are you thinking putting a cadet as first officer?
Mishtak began laughing as the proverbial second shoe hit the ground...
That does not sit well with me, am I being reprimanded and I not know it? Did I do something to offend the rest of the senior staff?
"It was not meant to insult you in any way..."
I just failing to understand the lack of the chain of command. If the captain leaves it falls to the commander, if both leave as is the case now it falls to the next highest rank in the Command structure, which last I check unless some pips fell off, should have been me sir."
He was technically correct, his file showed he had taken the minimum number of command courses required by the academy to receive a command staff rating and he was considered capable of commanding a ship in the eyes of starfleet and the academy, but they had not taken into consideration the trauma he had endured or how stress of command might affect his emotional state after a tragedy like the one he survived. The question now becomes how does one politely point at that someone's qualifications were overlooked based on the potential hazard of being emotionally compromised? The only logical way to do it was, at least in this case, the Klingon way...
"The only reason I hold the second officer position instead of you is because Captain Prince wanted to make sure you were recovered from your personal tragedy before giving you more responsibility than you could handle and as far as I know Captain Tiho is following those set orders until you are fully cleared by Commander Suroc."
"Please not that I am not dismayed with you, but I've gotta express my concern about such things. If I did not voice my opinion than I would not be a very good member of this crew. I just want to know of this matter will be address, and this will sound terribly Klingon of me, but there is no better way than one to be noticed than to be in the "Chair" and if I am never left in Command it is hard to show that quality."
"Do not act as if I do not understand your concerns, I fully expected you to address these orders in due time. It occurs to me you are returning to your normal self and some of your career ambitions are beginning to resurface."
"Forget it. Forget everything I said, lets just get back to the Bridge before the cadet has us crashing into a hell class planet."
Mishtak moved to him, and grabbing his arm gently spun him back around so the two men were face to face
"There will be no 'forgetting it' and I should have informed you before the cadet arrived that my official report has you listed as my actual first officer when I am in command, I just needed something for this cadet to do and felt that throwing him to the wolves on his first day would tell us what he is made of, there is a reason I emphasized his temporary status. I do apologize for not discussing this with you first, but while you and Cadet whatever his name is are on the bridge with me, until the captain changes things, he is your student. Teach him everything you know and perhaps we can make a better officer out of him than the academy ever could."
He moved closer to the exit, allowing room for Larkin to exit first.
"Now, let's return to our duties before our friendly cadet gets us all killed."
He motioned for Larkin to exit first and he would follow...

"The only reason I hold the second officer position instead of you is because Captain Prince wanted to make sure you were recovered from your personal tragedy before giving you more responsibility than you could handle and as far as I know Captain Tiho is following those set orders until you are fully cleared by Commander Suroc."
At the mention of being cleared by Commander Suroc LArkin closed his eyes and grimaced. He had not spoken to the Vulcan since the Vulcan ordered him time away from the ship. He had not wanted to do that as he prefered to work through his sorrow. Ultimately though the goblin knew wht he was talking about and leave was good for him. Larkin hated to admit that.
"I was afraid you would say that. Have to get cleared by Suroc. Suppose when I am off duty that I will have to go pay him a visit." Larkin cursed under his breath. "You know I have not spoken to him since he ordered me off the ship, worse yet, Captain Prince agreed. I'm fine, Mistak I'm fine. See?" Larkin smiled which turned out to only look funny since he was forcing the smile.
"Do not act as if I do not understand your concerns, I fully expected you to address these orders in due time. It occurs to me you are returning to your normal self and some of your career ambitions are beginning to resurface."
"Well if a man has no ambitions, no hope he has nothing. The choices and decisions we make, make us who we are; our quiality reflected in them. If I did not have ambition I would still be an ensign serving on board the U.S.S Merlin. Heh heh" Larkin chuckled a little. "LIfe is starting to look up again, and having lost everything I have a whole new lease on life. Who knows we may end up in Stov' a Kor yet among the honored dead." Larkin said giving a Mistak a friendly slug on the shoulder.
As larkin tunred to leave he was spun around my Mistak turning him around. His balance off set Larkin did some quick leg work in the form of a three second dance to try and play it off. There was quick thinking, he would have to pat himself on the back later. Ha ha job well done larkin.
"Well yeah you should have. That would have avoided this entire mess, I am sure the bridge crew will start circulating what has happened or what they think has happened in the rumor mill that seams to plague this ship as soon as they're off duty. Im your official first officer huh?" Larkin smirked. "You should be mine....Sir" Larkin said with a jokingly sarcastic manner.
"As for molding ensign whats his spots, the Trill kid, into a fine member of Starfleet, I think we can do that. He can be a pet project. Though going back to that rumor mill I was talking about a couple seconds a go, when did you and Harper....mesh." He sighed. In hindsight he realised there were better was he could have said that, oh well no use grying over damaged Warp nasels.
Mishtak moved toward the exit allowing for room for Larkin to exit first, perfect timing. He himself was going to suggest returning to the bridge. He took a few steps toward the Bridge and stopped as Mistak said a final thing. He turned around once more to address his speaker.
"Now, let's return to our duties before our friendly cadet gets us all killed."
"Aye sir, sounds great." Was all that Larkin said in reposnse. He was glad that he had brought this up with Mistak. He was wondering why things were going so...well odd. Blast his luck though for having to go talk to Suroc. He once more turned around and began heading out onto the Bridge.
