Hector had written a very direct padd regarding Lt. Mishtak's conduct to the captain and sent it to her ready room on a secure channel. He may have surrendered willingly enough to Lt. Xena when it suited him, but that was only the battle -- and this was war. He'd returned to engineering to find only Ensign Hollander on duty, the very same Ensign who was singularly incapable of making a decision on his own. The very same ensign whose name had evaded Hector all day -- and the very same ensign who was so desperate to win the surly Chief Engineer's approval that he had immediately ratted out his Sharpay and Mishtak for their little smooch-fest in there that afternoon. Hector knew perfectly well that his complaint was hypocritical. If Hollander hadn't been so persistent he was quite sure that he and Lt. Xena would have compromised themselves thoroughly whilst on duty -- but he didn't care. He expected Mishtak to at least do him the honour of keeping out of his way. And Sharpay -- Sharpay was a disappointment. She was the sort of ensign he would normally have grudgingly confessed pride over. She took initiative. She was talented. She had a mouth on her and she never held back her opinion -- Hector might have hand-picked her himself. He would take one of her over one thousand of Hollander, at any rate -- but he didn't want her to think she was so good that she could flout his command. Nor did he want Mishtak to think he had any business in Engineering, whether his girlfriend was there or not. He had taken his time, which he told himself was because he was being thorough, and not because images of a certain sultry security officer kept leaping unbidden into his brain. Curse her. He'd written his letter. Adjusted his comm badge so it automatically filtered out any communication incoming from Ensign Hollander -- and so that it in turn magnified his voice when he was talking to Ensign Hollander -- and then he decided it was time to speak to Sharpay on the subject. //"Romilly to Ensign Harper. Meet me in Engineering, lower deck."// [ooc: OK -- up to you! La'Mara can either come in in person or just ignore him/answer him in a padd XD. I figured this would be a good way to make things tense between Hector and Mishtak... correct me if I'm wrong ]

//"Romilly to Ensign Harper. Meet me in Engineering, lower deck."//
Sharpay was just about to drift off when she got the call. She grumbled a few things in Klingon then tapped her badge to respond. "This had better be good. Harper out." Alright. She knew she could get in trouble speaking to Commander Romilly that way as well as using that tone of voice, but frankly speaking he had not done anything that impressed her in the slightest; not that it exactly mattered as she was just an ensign.
Sharpay put her hair back, straightened up her uniform then swiftly made her way to engineering. What does the blowhard want now? Sharpay couldn't help but ask herself in thought. No. She didn't think much of him, but she had to obey. Obey. Like he did? Ha! Wonder if I should start a pool to see when he'll get demoted... Shar smirked at the idea as she walked through the doors of engineering.
She scanned the area briefly before spotting Romilly. "Yes, commander?" Sharpay said as she walked up to him, arms folded.

Hector didn't demand respectful conduct. He demanded good work and dedication -- more dedication than Starfleet would ever expect from their employees, to be fair. He expected her to give him a hard time because it was how he treated authority figures. He didn't give two hoots what her opinion about him was, either. So far as he was concerned his work spoke for itself when it had to.
He narrowed his eyes and leaned on a console, watching her. She had probably been asleep. That was fine by him. She had put him out earlier that day -- Hollander had spent so long complaining about everything he'd started to wheeze almost asthmatically.
"Ensign," he greeted her nonchalantly. "I thought you might like the opportunity to explain yourself in person," he said, waving dismissively with one hand. "Ensign Hollander seemed to think that Lieutenant Mishtak was only moments away from ravishing you over a command console this afternoon."

Sharpay clenched her jaw and her hands balled into fists. I don't know who I'm gonna kill, but I'm gonna kill someone! "That is none of your business, or Ensign Hollander's." Shar stated firmly pointing to Hector with her right hand.
"And it was just a kiss! We are a couple. And so help me if you say anything about protocal..." Sharpay lowered her hand and placed her hands on a console in front of her. She took a deep breath, counted three and released it.
For the times he'd gotten in trouble he should not be bringing anything up; especially something so trivial.
"With all due respect," not that I think you deserve any... "what makes my personal life any of your or anyone elses business? It's not affecting my work performance and you bleeding well know that."

"It's not private if it's in public," Hector countered, raising an eyebrow. "I don't give a toss about protocol, either. While you were snogging that Klingon, Ensign Hollander nearly ended himself trying to work out what to do about minor warp core fluctuations."
Minor warp core fluctuations he was now quietly confident that an eleven year old boy was better equipped to deal with.
"You can do what you like with him, this is my official order that you're to spare me to details, Harper -- regardless of where they come from. If it's private, keep it private. Some of us would like to keep our food down."

"It's not private if it's in public,"
"Wow. What wonderful words of wisdom. Let's all bow down." Sharpay said sarcastically as she placed a hand to her hip, rolling her brown eyes. That was very helpful indeed. Truly insperational. And yatta yatta yatta. Shar half listened to the rest. She was totally ticked off.
"...If it's private, keep it private. Some of us would like to keep our food down."
Sharpay eyed Romilly with a scowl. "Why don't instead, you try choking on it?"

"A magnificently reasoned argument, Ensign," Romilly said, and rolled his eyes. "This is not a debate. If you honestly can't restrain yourself from sexual contact whilst you're on duty I would recommend either seeking medical assistance or finding a new duty assignment."

Sexual conduct?! Since when was a hug and a kiss considered sexual conduct?!
"When you get bitten by the love bug, assuming of course it isn't put off by your smell, I'll be plenty happy to remind you; no simple hug or kiss in public." Shar said as she folded her arms across her chest. "Is that all...sir?" If she was dismissed after this she'd have to go to the holodeck or gym to beat the stuffing out of something.

"Because I'll be taking orders from you at that point," Hector said breezily, but he was inwardly amused. He bit down on the corner of his thumbnail and sighed belligerently.
"Additionally you have my express permission to resort to any means necessary to keep Hollander quiet and occupied."

"Because I'll be taking orders from you at that point,"
"No. I just like to throw things back in others faces." Can you say revenge? Or grudge holder? Sharpay liked to see people get what she thought they deserved, and she was also not afraid to let them have it. Of course dating the chief of security she kinda had to be a little careful about that.
Maybe she would instruct the replicator in Romilly's quarters to say something very annoying every time he tried to get something to drink or eat. Or maybe have sonic shower stop working, or have the lights switch on and off while he was trying to do something important. Oh yeah. She'd get him back for this one way or another.
"Additionally you have my express permission to resort to any means necessary to keep Hollander quiet and occupied."
Sharpay genuinly smiled. "Don't know what I did to deserve that, but I'll take it."
"Oh, ensign..." Sharpay went off in search.

Hector smirked as she went. That was the Harper he'd come to expect. One day, he had no doubt, she would be terrifying as chief engineer and some poor sod like Hollander would need to face the full pelt of her wrath. Hollander was a waste of time. He was too eager to please, and not eager enough to think for himself.
The only way to keep pushing himself forward was to encourage other people to challenge him. Xena challenged him. She had also inspired him in ways he was quite sure she had never intended to. Hector bit down thoughtfully on his lower lip, remembering the strength and the depth of her kiss for a long moment before he turned his attention to the warp core.
Minor fluctuations may not have been an emergency, but he was going to fix it anyway.

After Hector left her quarters, Xena had finished up the rest of her security duties. She was still on call though. Of course if she didn't take her work so seriously she'd still be doing it. Hence the reason she had not much to do while still on duty, so...she decided to stop in on engineering. Perhaps the internal sensors were fully functional by now or the cause was found and purged? It was something to check into.
Also, ever since Hector had left her quarters Xena found that he kept cropping up in her mind. She didn't much like that as she didn't like to be distracted. What was done was done. When she entered engineering she first saw Ensign Harper who looked like she was out to get someone. Xena had seen that look more than once before. She then spotted Hector at work and silently crept up. "Fix the problem yet?"

"Checking up on me, Lieutenant?"
Hector's voice was aloof, but inwardly he was cursing. Maybe thinking about Xena made her turn up, like saying 'Bloody Mary' five times into a mirror. He didn't look up.
"Fixed it an hour ago. Now I'm trying to work out what Hollander did to upset her so badly," he was talking about the warp core. He was having trouble getting into the mindset of somebody so functionally incapable that they had to run crying to their Chief of Engineering whenever there was the tiniest hint of an issue.
He fully intended to discover what Hollander had done and rig the consoles in engineering to administer a short, sharp, painful -- but ultimately harmless electric shock to the next person who was so stupid that they allowed it to happen.

"Checking up on me, Lieutenant?"
"That would require too much time. Don't even think a twenty four seven watch could be enough to keep you out of trouble. A whole team watching around the clock on the other hand would be more like checking up." Xena said a bit dryly, yet still coyly. She then peered over his shoulder to see what he was doing if he had already fixed the problem. "Uh, speaking of a security team, do you really want one?" Xena nudged Hector aside and tapped at the console.
Well... She turned round and faced him. "Shall I start reading off the list of punishments now or save it for a court marshal?"
"Just so many punishments... don't think I could administer them all on my own."

"You could feign ignorance," Hector suggested hopefully, testing the water with her, just a bit. He had to know how much he could get away with. She obviously liked him -- or. Well. She obviously -- fancied him, even if she didn't like him, which he supposed was more likely to be the truth of the matter. She made him feel ... complicated, in a way that he couldn't pick apart like a puzzle.
That he both liked and disliked. It was a new feeling, and not altogether unpleasant, but it put him in a position of vulnerability, and that he was less inclined to enjoy.
"Besides which, it's not lethal."
