Christian didn't mind when La'Mara took his hand, he just didn't expect her to. It didn't exactly fit in. But before he could ask her why she did it, they arrived at the village and rocks were pelted at the cyclops. Christian took an awkward stance because he didn't want to get hit, but soon relaxed when La'Mara told them to stop and they stopped.
He followed her off the cyclops' hand, or at least tried to, then paused for a moment, looking over the edge. "Well..." he said. Reminding himself that the safety protocols were online, and that nothing could really happen, he grabbed the robe and, with a yell of excitement ("Watch out below!") crashed down firmly onto both his feet. Nobody could fault his sense of balance. At least, if he stood on the ground. In fact, the cyclops had gone out of his way to catch Christian.
"Thanks," Christian said, getting up. "Can you put me down?" Meanwhile, La'Mara explained the situation to the villagers, then they fetched Cala, who knew the cyclops and thought he was dead. He put Christian down, then went to talk with Cala.
"Good question," he said to La'Mara.

"Something funny is going on." La'Mara whispered to Christian. "And I think I know how to find out. Follow my lead." La'Mara went up to the leader of the village. "While we wait how about a story to pass the time? Free of charge. This is after all a happy occasion."
The village leader reluctantly agreed.
La'Mara took Christian by the hand and led him to a table that was very long and wide. It had nothing on it. Actually it looked like it had just been cleared. Like someone was in a hurry. La'Mara hopped up and waited for Christian to join her. "Gather round everyone! We sing of Pilauhpas and Kri!" La'Mara leaned in to whisper to Christian. "Yes, I am making this up off the top of my head, but don't worry."
Back to the crowd. "It was a warm spring day. Gentle breeze tickling the people, flocks, fields... On this particular day Kai, a lovely young woman had been sent to gather water from the river. Since it was such a beautiful day she decided to gather flowers too..."
La'Mara was hoping Christian would help add to the story as well as act out some of the movements with her.

As La'Mara started telling the story, Christian stood there stupefied, taking a while to recover. Instead, he took hold of his harp and tried to accompany La'Mara with a simple tune. He did quite well of it, possibly because the program helped. In the meantime, he looked at La'Mara with a "what now?" sort of look, asking her for instructions and making it very clear that she was in the lead.

Oh joy. "While picking flowers," La'Mara pretended to pick flowers, using the other hand to tell Christian to walk toward her. "a young man in the valley approached her and said..." Come on Christian, say something. 'hello' would be good.
The villagers watched somewhat amused. Being it a romantic story the women were drawn to it with anticipation. The children, well some were paying attention. La'Mara did have something up her sleeve for action so the men wouldn't fall asleep, even if they were just holograms.

Christian saw La'Mara motioning him to come closer, and so he did, still plucking the strings of his harp. He thought for a while as he stood with her. 'Hello' seemed too simple. "Kal' Hèmera," he started, citing Ancient Greek for 'good day'. "Aren't the flowers beautiful this spring?"
He wondered what La'Mara was planning.

"Kal' Hèmera,"
A looked of surprise quickly washed over La'Mara's face. Yeah. She was not expecting him to say something in Greek.Wow. I'm impressed. When this was over she'd have to remember to ask where he learned the language. Or if he just knew a few words. La'Mara looked up, pretending to be startled. "Oh!" She gasped. She looked at the crowd. "The first meet. But what do you suppose happens next?"
"They fall in love?!" One of the villagers shouts from the crowd.
"Yes! Love at first sight. But that's when the trouble starts. As they get to know each other,"
La'Mara looked back to Christian, and extended her hand for a greeting, and such. After he took her hand La'Mara planned to take the lyre (harp) away, and spin in so Christian would have a hold on her as if to slit her throat. An evil bandit was coming up!

Christian took La'Mara's hand and was startled to notice that she spun in, and suddenly acted as if he was going to slit her throat. What role am I playing, exactly? Next time La'Mara asks me to play a role, I am going to ask for a script, he thought. Not entirely sure what he should do, Christian half-heartedly made some movements indicating a threat. The crowd was not impressed, though, and the men were almost falling asleep.
La'Mara! Help!

"An ugly mean evil ruthless blood thirsty warlord came along and saw the two!" La'Mara was talking with dramatic suspense. "This warlord had known this fair maid and in a fit of jealousy ran and grabbed her from behind, putting a blade to her throat! Ready to kill her!"
La'Mara whispered to Christian. "Put me in a tighter hold please."
The men started to awake. "Is this girl about to be killed? Well..."
"The man she had met while picking flowers was forced to withdrawal. The evil warlords men were waiting just outside the village and would attack at any moment if their leader didn't return soon with the girl. Why did they want her? Well her family was related to the most wealthy man in the village. The men said they'd spare all of them if a marriage was agreed upon! If not, everyone would die! Die in cold blood!"
"So..." Think...Ah!

Christian grabbed La'Mara even tighter as by the Captain's instructions. He wondered why she was telling the story. Was she speculating on what had happened with the cyclops and the married couple? And if so, who was who in the tale?
He released La'Mara and continued. "I take it the man went back to warn the village?" he asked her openly, trying to contribute to the story. "If he did, he'd surely have ran into the warlord's men."

"I take it the man went back to warn the village?"
"In fact he did. Only, the villagers saw him coming because he was soooooo incredibly tall!" La'Mara held a hand way up as far as it could go. "The villagers were filled with fear! They turned him away!" La'Mara pointed a swift finger to the exist of the village, placing the other hand on her hip. "His height was not the only 'problem'. He was a smith and had scaring from a previous burn, making him hideous to the villagers so they pelted him with stones! It was a ghastly mess! The only thing he could do was to retreat!"
All the villagers were fully awake and listening now.
"The warlord men, at the village were making a deal with the farmers. They wanted the girl, and the man she had met gone forever, so they schemed up an idea. You see the young woman was very strong willed and determined. The only thing that mattered more to her than her own life were the family members she loved. Which was one reason why she didn't go after the man she had first met while picking flowers."
La'Mara fell to he knees with a painful, sorrowful expression. "They also told her he was dead. She cried for days."
"What about the warlords?! Anyone get killed in cold blood?!" someone shouted out.

Christian let La'Mara finish the tale, assisting where needed (he played the role of the lover who was chased out of the village, for example). When the tale was finished, he helped La'Mara to her feet by giving her his hand, still playing a role. One of the villagers then asked if anybody got killed in cold blood.
He didn't know. Instead, he looked at La'Mara. You know where to go with this, Captain.

"Ya know, it's rude to interrupt a bard when she's relating a story. Besides, I was getting to that." La'Mara spoke plainly.
La'Mara took Christian's hand and got back on her feet. "Thank you."
"As a matter of fact one person did get killed in cold blood. It was the messenger, and scout in one. This person was going to tell the young girl the truth about what was going on, but the warlord found out and the messenger ended up with a slit throat and a hole in the chest where the heart used to beat. No coin was put in his mouth either, as he was never buried. Just chucked into the ocean..."
"So, the soul still wanders around today seeking vengeance and the fair maid." That ought to satisfy them.
Just then the cyclops and Cala came back. Thank the gods. La'Mara thought.
"Deo and I are going to get married. The deal is off!" Cala announced upon their arrival. They went and took care of the business that needed to be attended to. Is all well that ends well? For now at least it seemed as the band struck up. La'Mara shrugged. "Wanna dance?"

Christian saw the cyclops and Cala coming back. They were getting married, it seemed. Well, our tale does have a happy ending, he thought. Now I understand what's going on. Then La'Mara asked him to dance. "Of course, ma'am," he said, referring to her as such more out of politeness then out of adherence to protocol. "Let's celebrate this happy ending."
He waited for La'Mara to take the lead, as he didn't know Ancient Greek dancing.

"Of course, ma'am," "Let's celebrate this happy ending."
La'Mara hopped off of the table they had been on. Others were dancing too. She watched their movements closely for just a moment. Her foot was already tapping to the beat of the music. "Follow me!" One. Two. Three! La'Mara counted off in her head so she could hop into the circle at the right time. Everything seemed to have a certain rythem, and number. Hand clapping, turning around, foot move and placements. "Might need some help from Terpsichore, muse of dance."
This was just all for fun anyhow. So maybe not. Like the others La'Mara clapped her hands turned in her own circle, and such. She was not exactly sure she got every foot placement correct, but hey. It didn't really matter. There were some artist there painting pictures on a vase of the dance. No doubt it was for Cala. That is how they took pictures and remembered events, told a few stories. All by painting on a vase.
"Wee!"

Christian was enjoying himself tremendously dancing with La'Mara, even though his natural clumsiness (which was a symptom of Asperger's) made his movements a little awkward. He tried to follow La'Mara as best he could, and did quite well. Quite pleased but also quite out of breath when the music stopped, Christian smiled at La'Mara. "Thanks," he said.
