Christian hesitated for a moment, and slowly walked towards the edge of the cliff, then suddenly pulled a sprint and dove off, splashing water into La'Mara's face. He laughed.

"Hey!" La'Mara said playfully as she splashed some water back at Christian. This would make for a fun story; something to write about. Mainly because it was fun. Well, at least La'Mara was having fun, and she hadn't heard Christian complain. So all had to be well. Right? "Oh! Look!" La'Mara pointed to the sky. "Shooting star!" Would it be foolish to make a wish on a holographic shooting star?
She swam closer to where Christian had landed from his dive, and looked up at the sky. It was beautiful. "Oh, and Venus is starting to peak through." La'Mara looked back to Christian to see his reaction. And he still did look kinda cute.

"Hey!" Christian shouted out as the splash of water hit him straight in the face, making it impossible to see through his glasses. He took them off and safely put them in his pocket (the water wasn't real anyway, so there was no danger of losing them). Christian's frightfully near-sighted eyes now had to do the job of finding La'Mara alone. The whole holographic world of Ancient Greece was now reduced to a vague and blurry image, soft patches of colour. He swam towards where he vaguely saw the shape of La'Mara.
"Oh! Look!" Christian looked up in a futile attempt to see what La'Mara was pointing at: the shooting star was too far away. "Shooting Star!" Ah, that's it, he thought. "Where?" he asked, rather foolish-sounding. Right now, he wished La'Mara hadn't splashed water right onto his glasses. "Oh, and Venus is starting to peak through."
Christian ran a hand through his wet hair. "It would be beautiful," he said jokingly, his facial expression somewhere between a grin and a smile. "At least, if you hadn't splashed water all over my glasses so that I fail to see what you are talking about." He added, quite obviously: "Literally."

"Where?"
A rather perplexed look appeared on La'Mara's face. That was a very strange question to ask. Anyone should know that all things stellar took place in the sky. La'Mara looked at Christian. His glasses were missing. Goodness! They hadn't fallen in the lake! Had they? Instinctively La'Mara tried to feel around for then in the water.
"At least, if you hadn't splashed water all over my glasses so that I fail to see what you are talking about."
"Oh, I am so sorry." La'Mara said apologetically. "Did they fall off?" It was then she noticed his smile. What was there to smile about? "Ya know, maybe if you wore contacts this wouldn't have happened. Not that I'm telling you to or anything..." And this is usually when I'm told to shut up because I'm starting to ramble.
Like it or not La'Mara did have a slight tendency to ramble every now and again. It got on a lot of peoples nerves. 'Shut up, La'Mara' was the most common response when she started to ramble.
Suddenly La'Mara started to giggle again. There was a speck of something on Christian's face. "Hold still for a moment, please." La'Mara swam right up, and put and gentle hand to Christian's face, and tenderly used her thumb to wipe something off his cheek. Probably holographic from the lake, but still...

La'Mara seemed to have missed his joke. She told him to wear contacts. "What? Don't my glasses look good on me anymore?" he asked charmingly, cutting La'Mara off. He didn't like telling her to shut up, and not just because she was his Commanding Officer, but because she was his friend.
When La'Mara started to giggle again, Christian would have jumped if he weren't in the water. She sure did that a lot, he thought, a bit uncomfortable. Then she told him to hold still. "Yes ma'am," he said jokingly, then did as she said. Her touch felt nice, soft and tender, yet somewhere, it didn't sit right with Christian.
If this is going where this might be going... no, I hope not. But despite his unease, he couldn't help smiling. "Thanks."

"What? Don't my glasses look good on me anymore?"
"Oh! I didn't mean to suggest-" calm down. "Of course they do." La'Mara said softly with a soft smile. Just where are they? At least she was not rambling anymore. Christian had cut her off just in time. Actually it didn't quite feel like he had cut her off. Which was actually a very nice feeling.
"Yes ma'am," "Thanks."
La'Mara got off what was on Christian's face, but she still kept her hand where it was. Here she was having fun, romantic, setting, wet, handsome man in front of her... Mixed and conflicting emotions started churning. Then suddenly La'Mara slowly leaned forward and kissed Christian softly.

Before he knew it, La'Mara kissed him on the lips. What was worse for poor Commander Christian Hughes was that despite his discomfort, the kiss from his superior officer was a nice feeling. Only as he looked at her a few moments later did he realise what had happened. Did I just kiss my Captain? he thought, alarmed. Goodness me, we're in trouble. And it's my fault.
"You do know that we just broke Starfleet protocol?" he asked her, not accusationally but just a little worried. "I mean, not that I didn't-" he started, then stopped in midsentece. "Suffice to say that I-" He just fell silent, clearly showing his discomfort at what had happened. He wasn't sure whose fault it was, but he sure had not acted professionally.

That felt...
"You do know that we just broke Starfleet protocol?"
Christian had cut off her thought with his question. La'Mara's eyes opened wide. Oh dear! My goodness! "Uh..." La'Mara blinked a few times. Disbelief. "I didn't mea-" Hmm. "I-" La'Mara was sort of floundering a bit for words. First time in her life she had literally been speechless.
Christian was clearly at a loss for words as well. Don't panic. La'Mara told herself. "Well, no one knows what happened except us." She finally managed to say. "We just won't tell anyone, and I'll take fully responsibility for the...kiss." La'Mara told Christian calmly. "It was nice though." Naturally she had not meant to say that out loud.
"Perhaps we should...go to the bridge?"

They stared at each other for a while until La'Mara broke the silence, speaking comforting words that put Christian's mind to rest. Well, almost. He still felt responsible. "Well, no one knows what happened except us." "We just won't tell anyone, and I'll take fully responsibility for the...kiss."
Then: "It was nice, though." La'Mara seemed a bit embarrassed to have said that aloud. "If I may speak freely, ma'am," he said politely. "I was thinking the exact same thing." She would know what he meant, but he danced around the issue and this indirect way of saying it prevented him from having to say 'it was nice' aloud.
La'Mara thought they should get back to the Bridge, she said. "Yep," he said. "We should be at that planet now. I wonder if Ensign Digby found anything?"
"After you, dear," he said half-jokingly with a smile, then followed her out of the Holodeck.

"Computer, end program." With the command everything vanished away. All that was left was the hologrid and the two officers, now back in uniform. Speak freely? Did I just set the clock back? La'Mara could help but wonder curiously. She'd honestly not be too surprised if her action had that effect.
Thinking the same thing? He must have enjoyed it too! Honestly La'Mara had not been expecting that.
"We should be at that planet now. I wonder if Ensign Digby found anything?"
"She most likely has." La'Mara commented. She didn't know what. Planets? New spacial anomalies? Source of food or energy... List could go on, just like space.
"After you, dear," La'Mara returned the smile, and left the holodeck. But she couldn't help thinking how nice 'dear' sounded.
