On the screen appeared a humanoid with purple skin, which had a few scales. The hair was white like the Andorian race, and the eyes were yellow and cat-shaped. The garments were quite colorful and festive looking. The man before them, well it looked like a man, was in a bright orange vest, and baggy shorts with yellow swirls printed upon them.
Lydia had seen a good many different species during her time in the academy, but none quite so...flamboyant. She did her best to have her facial expressions not to show surprise, shock, or anything near there.
"Hello, I'm Captain Prince of the Federation Star ship Orion, and you are..."
"Vhat. Of the vessel Veer." The man said with a toothy grin. "It was nice of the Federation to send us an escort with a beautiful commanding officer. Tell me, Captain Prince, are you married?"
Lydia rubbed her palms together, fingers of each hand facing the opposite of each other. She hadn't expected such a question to be asked. Perhaps Admiral Lyre or Captain Quint could have said that she and her crew would be interacting with a species that fraternized off the bat.
"Mister Vaht, I don't think such questions are appropriate." Lydia paused a moment. "Since you know we're here to escort your vessel, why don't we just get to business. I do have a couple of questions however."
"You can't blame a fellow for being curious can you? Now, what are your questions my dear?"
Lydia glanced back at her crew then turned her attention to Mister Vhat.
"Would you do me the honor of enlightening me on the history of your people and tell me more about these attacks that have been going on?" Lydia asked as she now placed her hands behind her back.
"The attacks are based on the Britannah being jealous. We have always been one step a head, and we've now been given the decision of joining up with the illustrious, and prestigious, Federation. Not only that, but a new and more efficient power source has been found in our boarder of space. As to our history, I think it best to show you. Once we're in orbit of our home world why don't you and your crew come down and rest the bones."
"We'd be happy to come down and 'rest the bones'. Thank you."
Lydia then turned to Lt. Commander Hughes and swiftly ran a finger across her neck indicating to cut the transmission.

Mishtak was going over Sharpay's reports of dark matter and running different scenarios through the computer to try and determine what it was he had picked up, perhaps in the end it had been nothing more than a normal spacial anomaly...
listening to the captain speak to the flamboyantly flirtatious man on the screen, something within him growled... and once the transmission was cut he spoke his peace
"Captain, I do not trust this Vhat of the Veer, I think he is hiding something... I'd also like to point out that men in such... flashy clothing are not to be trusted..."
he was raised to be mindful of flashy people, they were usually trying to distract newcomers from discovering some dark secret long buried, and Mishtak felt this man was doing just that... and he would find out the truth...

Faith couldn't help the smile that graced her lips during the captains conversation. She had even bit her lip to hide it and to keep the giggles from coming out. She looked back at Captain Prince when the whole thing was over, but her attention was soon on Lt. Mishtak as he spoke up.
Flashy clothing not to be trusted...
"Forgive me, but lieutenant, just because someone has on flashy clothes doesn't mean you can't trust them. I'm sure some of this crew may have flashy clothing. If they do are you not going to trust those shipmates? It's just another culture. However," Faith turned her attention back to the captain.
"I do believe they are hiding something too. When you mentioned history and asked about the attacks I sensed a tad of apprehension. Of course, when we go down I suggest a one on one meeting with Mister Vhat because," Faith bit her lower lip momentarily. "the rest of the time you two were conversing I sensed uh, arousal, and uh...lust. Perhaps in this case a glass of wine would not be required to loosen the lips."
In that turn Faith couldn't help the giggle that escaped her lips.
She then turned back to face her station and prepared to follow side by side with the other vessel.

"It is not that I distrust everyone in flashy clothing, however in an outfit as outrageous as Vhat's it raises one's suspicions of his intentions... that with the apparent lack of information he was willing to divulge makes me suspicious of his intent and of the history he may be hiding... If I may Captain, I do not recommend being alone with that man for any extended period of time."
he did not normally explain his statements, but his trust in his shipmates had been called into question and he knew for certain he would lay down his life for any member of this crew whether he knew their name or not.

"Alright all, back to work. I'd like everyone studied up on the information given by both parties." Captain Prince told all on the bridge. "All your concerns are noted." Lydia said as she looked from Faith to Mishtak.
Looking back to Faith she said; "Don't quit your day job." That little nonchalant poke of hers, well it wasn't all that unexpected. Those that worked at the CONN were known for their...unique statements and sense of humor.
Lydia now headed towards her ready room. "Commander McNight, please accompany me."
She had heard Mishtak and Faith's comments and opinions about Vhat, now she was interested in what her first officer would have to say. He and Christian were the only ones not to speak up. Looking back she directed her attention at Lt. Commander Hughes. "You have the bridge Commander Hughes."
With those last words Captain Prince entered her ready room.

"Don't quit your day job."
"I never plan too, captain." Faith said with a little grin as she piloted the Orion next to the Veer.
Hmm...Vhat of the Vessel Veer...VVV for short I suppose... Faith giggled a bit. Couldn't help herself. "Any bet on what might happen on what the captain will do to get more information? Will she break protocol and use feminine charm or shall she toil away with history, using her wits?"
Her fingers danced across the console. "Any takers?"
She knew it wasn't exactly proper to wager on the captains moves and or decisions, but with what was said and happened Faith had to ask, and poke a little fun. Despite the fact she may get reprimanded...wouldn't be the first time.

"It is against Starfleet regulations to place wagers on the actions of the Captain, however if this were a Klingon vessel... I'd wager 20 to 1 odds in favor of the Captain avoiding the use of her, how did you put it? ah yes, Feminine Charms."
He was sure the captain would not break protocol in this matter, after all, she had to have some diplomatic expierience in her service history...

James watched and listened as the captain spoke to the other ship. Once she had finished James noticed the captain walking towards her ready room.
After being asked to accompany the captain James replied "my pleasure captain", he then followed the captain into her ready room.

Christian's autist senses took some time processing the simple phrase. "You have the Bridge." Word for word, he analysed it, and then it struck him: he had the Bridge. He was now in charge and on watch. He rose slowly from his station, walked over to the center chair and settled in it slowly. It felt strange to sit there: he hadn't much contemplated he would, as Second Officer. And still, he was there. He looked around the Bridge, at all stations. Every detail he noted down mentally, and he had the idea something was missing. Having pieced the information together, Chris pressed his commbadge. // Ensign Jordan, this is Commander Hughes. Have you fully recovered yet? The Ops Station is vacant, so report to the Bridge. // He didn't give Ensign Jordan any time to answer the question whether he had had recovered. It was a nicety he brushed over unintentionally.
He thought about the situation. Truth be told, Vhat's face was probably on his mind the most of all the officers on the Bridge. He remembered every detail, and was scared about it. Still, he pushed it away in silence, concentrating on his duties as the Officer of the Watch.
It was a bit silent on the Bridge, the familiar sound of the engines the only noise. For the first time, Christian spoke up outside of following his orders. He asked a simple question of his fellow Bridge Officers, perhaps one that had already been answered. "What do you think that will happen?" He looked straight at the viewscreen.

"Oh, yes, protocols..." Faith lightly shook her head. "Ever read up on Captain Kirk? Of course you have, every cadet gets an ear full at the academy. How many times did he break protocol and get a promotion? Or end up saving the world?" Faith lightly shrugged as she turned in her chair to face the crew. "Granted this is a bit different, but still, I wouldn't be too surprised if Captain Prince went against protocol..."
"As to what will happen I'm not sure, but I do think our triple V is up to something. I guess we'll have to wait until we go down to the planet."
Just then a beeping sound came from the helm. Faith turned back to face the console. The beeping sound stopped just about as soon as it started. "Curious. I could have sworn something showed up on sensors. Are you reading anything Lieutenant Mishtak?"

"If you will also note Miss Ackron, Kirk was also demoted just as often as he was promoted. I do not thing he is a wise role model, however Captains Picard and Riker are humans worthy of studying..."
the scanner beep interrupted him and he registered a similar reading as to the one that triggered his earlier suspicions...
"...It appears that our 'dark matter' friend has returned..."
tapping his comm badge he sends for assistance
"Ensign Harper, report to bridge engineering station at once."
hoping none of the bridge crew would mind him inviting another to the party, he needed her help with this, there was something bugging him in his gut, his instincts were to raise shields and power weapons... too bad they didn't have their own cloaking device at the moment. 'what i wouldn't give for the cloak right about now, I hate surprises...' he thought to himself as he waited for Sharpay to arrive.

Faith rolled her eyes. Picard and Riker? Was Lt. Mishtak serious?! Why...those two, well, in Faith's personal opinion they were quite dry. Like toast with no butter or jam. Alright, perhaps Riker wasn't all that bad, but still...Picard? The one who said hail them when a ship fired. The two that she had admired most was Kirk and Janeway. Personally she would have loved to be at the hearing where the admirals were trying to decide weather or not to punish Captain Janeway for a crime she had not even committed yet. Time travel, a cornucopia of disturbing concepts...
Another beep, this time from the science station on the bridge. The beep had taken place about the same time Lieutenant Mishtak had called their, at the moment, chief engineer to the bridge. Well actually acting chief engineer. It was quite amazing how many people had come and gone on this ship; especially those that had the senior staff positions. This ship definitely needed more officers, that much was certain.
"Ya know, you'd think if something was out there I'd be able to sense it or them, but all I'm picking up are the officers on the Orion and our friends, and I use that word loosely, on the vessel Veer."

The turbolift doors opened with a hiss. "You rang oh glorious assistant chief of tactical and security?" Sharpay said solemnly to Lt. Mishtak, hands folded in prayer like manner, with a near halfway bow of her head before passing his station to sit in the seat of the engineering station of the bridge that veered off to his right, towards the captain's ready room. She wouldn't admit it to anyone if they asked, but she had become a tad fond of him ever since the shuttle ride they had to take together to aid the old Klingon vessel. She was also looking forward to the holodeck program.
Sharpay went over the readings that the CONN had picked up as well as the other stations. "Ghostly readings." Shar commented since there was not exactly that much to go on. Just a few things here and there like before. "It might be us which is attracting our dark matter friend." Ensign Harper looked over her shoulder at Mishtak. "I assume that's why I was ordered here?"

Mishtak fought back a smirk as he watched Shar enter the bridge. He knew she did that to get a reaction out of him. It was funny that, for a human, he found her quite intriguing...
"Yes Ensign, I requested your presence here to assist us in monitoring our little friend. I am quite certain engineering will still be there when we are finished here."
Yes, he decided he did in fact like her. However, she would still have to prove herself in the holodeck, as soon as they got a free moment. He had watched her shooting with Lt. Xena and was impressed with her skill. It was almost as if her spirit had been born on the wrong planet. He watched her take her station before going back to his review of sensor readings and additional sector scans.
"I do not know about the rest of you, but my warrior instincts say to be on guard... and a Klingon's warrior instinct is rarely wrong."
He didn't speak to anyone in particular. It was mostly under his breath, sounding like a frustrated growl to anyone not within a 5 foot radius.
