A new day. Faith was so happy that, at the moment the crew had nothing to deal with, well nothing except a party later on. A surprise party at that. Rumor on the ship was that the party was going to be so large and in charge that some of the crew just might have to reassemble the ship to make way for everything that was being put into it. Yes, Faith was most definitely looking forward to this party. A little R an R. Rumor also had it that Starfleet uniforms were not required. That was another plus.
However, until party time came around everyone still had to go about their regular business, and do their best not to give anything away to the guest of honor while they all waited. It was a very good thing Commander Hughes was Human for if he was Betazoid, Faith might have accidentally let the secret slip due to her thoughts and excitement about it.

Due to Lieutenant Mishtak's off duty time Xena was on the bridge. It wasn't a bad place to be either, especially when everything was calm. That made things quite easy. The Orion and her crew had not had any problems since the Matalian mission. Everything was calm.
Calm for now Xena supposed. Like everyone she too had heard about the party. Personally Xena was not a party type person, but considering the reason why she didn't mind attending. Though the rumor of fun and what kind had been told over and over through the ship she was starting to wonder if a small security detail should be there.

Captain Prince came onto the bridge. She looked around with a smile as she stepped down into the command center to take her seat. Today was a very special day. Looking down at the PADD in hand she scrolled through. Not only was Commander Hughes having a promotion and party thrown for him but Lydia had decided to make Lieutenant Mishtak head of security. She had already entered that little piece of information into the ships log, he just didn't know about it yet. She figured she'd tell him at the party.
"Is there anything to report lieutenants?" Captain Prince asked Xena and Faith. She didn't think there would be too much to report if anything at all. She already knew regular everyday scheduled maintenance was going on. No beeping sounds alerting them of anything were sounding. It was just quiet.

Christian entered the Bridge in his new red uniform, still wearing his Lieutenant Commander rank pips. He had no idea what was going on, but his memory for the duty shifts signalled to him that something was off. For one, Lieutenant Lisa Huygens was missing from the Bridge on her shift, and in her place was Ensign Digby. "Ensign," he asked. "Where is Lieutenant Huygens?" Ensign Digby was silent for a moment. "She went to assist with some problems in the Mess Hall. I was sent as her replacement."
"Why wasn't I told?" he asked. He had to be firm, especially in the first days of his new commission, even with Lisa. "Why don't you go ask her yourself, Commander?" said Ensign Digby. "She's probably still there."
"Right," he said, and went on his way.

"Nothing out of the ordinary Captain." Xena reported. She smiled when she saw Commander Hughes walk onto the bridge. Poor man, the unsuspecting victim of a surprise party. She overheard the conversation between him and the ensign like everyone else on the bridge. If an ensign talked to me that way I'd have their rank. Apparently Hughes was more easy going. As he left the bridge Xena looked to Captain Prince. They all could not just rush out the door after him or try and block his way. Then he would suspect something.

"Just a regular type commet. Nothing else Ma'am." Faith informed as her hands danced just a bit across the console. The was literally nothing to do at the helm except sit there. Faith almost burst out laughing at the little conversation. After Hughes left the bridge Faith set the ship on auto pilot. Unfortunately not every single crew member could be at the party.
"Shall we go now?"

"Good news." Lydia replied about the reports. She did in fact deem them good news as that meant the party that was planned could go on uninterrupted and everyone could still enjoy their break. Sometimes no news was good news. Standing Lydia smiled. "Of we go."
"Computer lock onto Lieutenant Xena, Lieutenant Ackron, and myself and beam us directly to the mess hall."
The computer beep acknowledging the command then all three disappeared from the bridge in a flicker of light.
End Lydia-Move to Mess Hall.

Vistrol was one of the unfortunate ones that did not get to go to the party. It was alright by her though, a few people at least had to be on the bridge just in case something happened, besides she wasn't all that good in crowds in the first place. Suddenly one of the controls started beeping. "A class two nebula." Vistrol did a scan of it as well as log it away in the ships computer along with the time. Just standard procedure. Omicron particles?
Looking up from her console Vistrol looks to one of the crewmen. "This nebula is showing signs of omicron particles, anyway to make sure this nebula is not a life form?" Vistrol had remembered the things and lessons she had about the Voyager crew and things that they had encountered. The Voyager crew once came across a gassy cloud that ended up being a natural life form which they hadn't figured out until massive damage was done to it. And almost gotten eaten by it.
Vistrol also looked to make sure this class two nebula was not a life form either. She compared it to everything they had on record. "Well crewmen?" She questioned wanting her second opinion.
"Looks like a standard class two nebula to me. The sensors are not picking up anything different other than the omicron particles. Which would really give us a boost, and I as well as the computer can't detect or think of any life form that might inhabit this nebula or that it is anything but just a nebula."
"Thank you crewman." Vistrol said as she contemplated on calling Captain Prince to the bridge. It was just a class two nebula as far as they all could figure out. Vistrol first decided to stick it on screen to see if there was any difference. There was no difference from what it was supposed to actually look like and there was nothing suspicious floating around or anything nearby. Well...
Vistrol tapped her badge. "Lieutenant Vistrol to Captain Prince, we've encountered a class two nebula. I thought you might want to be notified as we are reading high emissions of omicron particles inside."

The turbolift brought Captain Prince promptly to the bridge. The doors opened with the ever so famous hiss and out Lydia stepped. "Have you gathered anything else about this class two nebula other than the unusual readings of omicron particles?" Lydia asked as she went round and sat in her chair. She looked at the center console. "No lifeforms? Is this any ones home?" A few more scans and opinions from her officers and she just might decide to take the ship inside to collect some of those omicron particles, assuming they weren't essential to anything.

Commander Christian Hughes came onto the Bridge and made straight for the First Officer's seat next to Captain Prince. Strengthened by the warm reception he had got at the party, he started to go about his duties with more confidence and took initiatives. "Harold," he said to the Ops Officer who had taken over from a Crewman. "Scan results?"
"Aye sir," said Lieutenant Francis. "Nothing I can see right off the bat. I recommend asking Science for their opinion." Christian nodded with hidden enthusiasm. Lisa would know, for sure. They just had to wait for a while as the Assistant Chief Science Officer was getting dressed for the occasion. "Lisa, this is Commander Hughes," he said through the commbadge. "Are you decent? We need you on the Bridge."

The message came to her in the turbolift. She had dressed in her duty uniform in record time, neglecting less important aspects, such as the fact that her hair was still pinned up in a ponytail. // Lisa, this is Commander Hughes. Are you decent? We need you on the Bridge. //
Lisa giggled. This mix of gentlemanliness and awkwardness was typical of Christian. It was audible as she pressed her commbadge. "Lisa here. Pleasure to speak to you, Commander. I'm coming your way with complete regard paid to Starfleet uniform regulations." The doors to the turbolift opened and she walked onto the Bridge, smiling at Christian who, she was glad to see, had gained in confidence. She could see it from the way he sat in the Command Chair.
"Ready for duty, Captain Prince, Commander Hughes," she said, nodding to each of them. "Now, what needs Science attention?"

Just as Christian was about to press his commbadge to tell her he'd see her soon enough, then, Lisa entered the Bridge and smiled at him. She was in her duty uniform, but little else had changed, including her hair: usually, she let it hang loose, but now it was still in a ponytail. Probably others wouldn't notice, but Christian did, by means of his autist senses. He smiled back as she took her station and asked what they had for her.
"Well," he said. "Have a look at the sensor readings on the nebula and tell us if it is likely to support life." Lisa started looking it over right away.

Things seemed to be taking care of themselves for the most part. So far Lydia hadn't had to do or say much. She'd really have to thank Lieutenant Huygens, as she figured that it had to be some if not most of her doing that made Commander Hughes to appear to have a little more confidence than before. Not that she ever doubted his ability to command others. Something just seemed a little different than before. All the right questions were being asked and answered.
"Is there anything in the nebula or around that needs the omicron particles? Come to think of it, why are they there?"
Lydia was thinking about collecting some to help boost and save on energy. Sure the ship was prepared for the journey, as well as any starship was prepared, but sometimes life and the universe had different plans that modified your addenda.
"Would there be any security risks if we were to take the ship into the nebula?"

Not a word did Faith make when she came to the bridge. She just simply listened to all the going ons about her. Mostly the questions and answers. Hopefully she hadn't missed anything important. "Well, if anyone is interested I'm not sensing anything out there." Naturally that was not enough to go on. More scans of course. Not surprising. Though Faith was intrigued about going inside, even if it was just a class two. Going places is what she liked to do.

Lisa went about her work with excitement and determination. First, she checked the readings. Omicron particles, inconclusive scan for life signs. But then, that was only logical seeing as it was a Class Two Nebula. "Ma'am, it's a class 2 nebula. Our sensor readings are being distorted as with any nebula of that type and so we can't really be sure there's anything out there."
She thought for a while, then thought of the right answer. "But since it's omicron particles, I'd say humanoid life is highly unlikely under such circumstances." She looked some more at the data, which was quite useless otherwise. Harold Francis could just have said it was inconclusive and be done.
But she enjoyed the scent of a possible discovery and a good academic discussion. "In conclusion, Captain," she concluded. "Since we cannot depend on our sensor array, the only thing we can rule out is the absence of humanoid life. We'll have to go in to research it." She thought nothing of danger that might lie within the nebula; that was not her job. Her job was to facilitate the main mission of Starfleet: to explore and to discover.
"I recommend that we go in, pending a Security report," she said.
