Before the opportunity came to answer Lt. Ackron's question, Christian saw the Executive Officer enter the Bridge area, and immediately turned to face him at the Science station. "Commander," he said. "The Captain ordered me to take the Bridge until she returned, but if you would like to be in command, then of course I shall be glad to move to the executive station." (OOC: I gather, though, that James will go with the Away Team, so if that stands, Hughes will be in command of the Orion until they return). He let a silence fall, then said: "Or are you really intent on taking the Science Station, sir?"
He then turned to answer the Helmswoman's question. "Oh, no," he said. "I'm not sure I want to meet one, too. Strangers who play pranks are one thing, but strangers who play pranks with deific powers are another thing entirely." As an autist, Christian always felt a little uncomfortable around strangers, even though strangers wearing a Starfleet uniform weren't really strangers. Okay, the Q encountered by the Enterprise and Admiral Janeway did often wear a Starfleet uniform, but that didn't really count. They were superhuman, after all. And Christian, for all his intellect, was made very human indeed by his social deficit.
"Although I must say this Vaht makes me feel very uncomfortable," he concluded. "I can't really judge whether I'd rather be dealing with the Q. After all, we're in one situation and I've never encountered the other."

The time had come for Ensign Harper's shift to come to a close, at least for now. She stood from the engineering station on the bridge. "If you'll excuse me." She said as she made her way to the turbolift. Though she stopped a bit short and leaned over the silver rail. "Commander Hughes, I'd prepare to deal with tougher encounters. As far as Vhat is concerned, he seems shifty enough. Too bad pain sticks aren't carried on Federation starships." Shar said with a grin before departing completely.
End Sharpay.

Faith lightly chuckled at both Hughes and Harpers statements.
"So I take it you don't like pranks of any kind? Coming from an average humanoid or an all powerful being?" She lightly shrugged. "Pity. Remind me never to set a whoopee cushion in your chair at operations. Though that would be kinda funny..." Faith trailed off a bit in silent laughter as the thought of it with the comm channel wide open made her crack up inside. Faith had rather a crude yet authentic sense of humor when it came to pranks and jokes.
"Ah, Vhat..." Faith gave a nod of her head. "Something is off about him. Friendly fellow, but to be honest he kinda gives me the creeps. Makes me glad I'm not a full telepath, don't think I'd care to know all that goes on inside his mind." Faith tilted her head a bit as she looked at her console again.
"Sir, our friend is back." Faith reported; her tone changing to a more serious one. "Tracking it's movements..."

Christian simply nodded at Ensign Harper's comment. "I'll learn," he said. "Thank you, Ensign." At Ackron's comment, he laughed heartily. "Oh no, Lieutenant," he said. "I'm not that rigid! Although you'd better do it while the ship is not on active duty. It might cause some distraction." He took the joke a little too seriously even though he knew it was a joke.
Then the conversation returned to Vhat, and took an interesting turn when Hughes was reminded that Ackron was part-betazoid. It made him feel a little uncomfortable that she could read and maybe understand his feelings even though they were a mystery to himself (OOC: or would Betazoid have problems reading autists? Might make things interesting.) "Yes, he's mightily unpleasant," he agreed. "If there's anything I do know for sure about Vhat, it's that he is completely alien and possibly very unpleasant... but then I have Asperger's syndrome and am not very good at such things."
The report that the dark matter was back alarmed Christian considerably. Since he had not yet been relieved from his watch by the Captain or the First Officer, even though Commander McKnight was on the Bridge, the urgency of command responsibility in such a situation speeded his actions. "Make sure our friend won't give us a hug, then. Let's go yellow alert until further notice," he said to Lt. Ackron. "Harold, any activity from the Veer?" he asked the junior Ops Officer.
"No sir," answered Lieutenant Francis. "They are doing nothing suspicious. I'll adjust the sensors as much as I can to scan them without alerting them." Christian nodded. Most curious.
He then tapped his commbadge. // Ensign Harper, this is Hughes from the Bridge. Since you seem to know more about our dark matter friend then us, do you have any recommendations as to what to do on its reappearance? //
(OOC: In the next part, I'm taking the liberty to introduce my unfinished second character.)
While waiting for Ensign Harper's reply, he was quickly reminded of the Science Department's work on the matter. Tapping his commbadge, again, he contacted Lt. Huygens, the Assistant Chief Science Officer, whom he had served briefly with on an earlier assignment and who had been very accommodating to his social problems. // Lisa, this is Lt.-Commander Hughes. What progress has Science made researching our dark matter friend? I hear Lt. Delphine is to come to the Bridge to work with Commander McKnight. If you have any new information to share, please report. //
"Recommendations?" he asked the Bridge crew.

//"Well," "We could..." "This is unusual, there's a pattern. I don't think we're dealing with a fully natural phenomena. The dark matter is natural, but..." "You might want the science department for this. I think it might be a ship, but if it is I don't think metreon particles will work. Porleran burst might help. That's the best I can give you at the moment."//

// Thank you Ensign, I'll ask Lieutenant Huygens about it (OOC: that is, Lisa will come over once I've finished her profile). For now, we're on Yellow Alert and with the information you've given me, I think I won't stand down from Yellow Alert until I know what's causing our friend to stalk us. Have a nice off-duty period, and thanks again. Hughes out. //
Time passed a little slowly on the Bridge as Christian kept waiting for more reports and for Lieutenant Huygens to arrive. Oh yes, and for contact from the Captain that the mission had succeeded. Perhaps he should try to contact her and Mishtak? "Captain, this is Commander Hughes," he said, tapping his commbadge.
Silence.
"Captain, do you copy?" he said again, and then more worried: "Captain, come in!" darn it! he thought, struggling to keep his calm. What to do now? Let's try Mishtak. "Lieutenant Mishtak, Commander Hughes here. We can't contact the Captain. Any thoughts?"
Waiting for Mishtak's response, he announced: "Commander! The Captain might be in trouble, and who knows who else? Will you go down to assist Mishtak or shall I?" Then he turned to Operations. "Prepare to contact Vhat, Lieutenant," he said. "He might know more about the Captain's whereabouts."

"Somehow I don't think Vhat will be much help if you do get him on screen." Faith commented. Her fingers flew across the console in front of her. She looked at the information that the sensors brought in. "Our friend is gone again." She reported. Hmm... "You don't suppose some magician is trying to wow us with these two vanishing acts; Captain Prince and the dark matter..."

"I'd rather not that it's the same magician," said Christian with a sense of autist humour. "Because I know only one applicant for the job." He ordered Lieutenant Francis to try to locate Captain Prince. While the sensors ran, an uncomfortable, anticipating silence fell over the Bridge. Then, at last...
"Inconclusive, sir," said the Ops Officer. darn it, what do we do? Christian said inwardly. "Commander!" he said to Commander McNight. "I think we need to send an Away Team down."
"Open a channel to Vhat," he said. "We'll need to speak to him." He then added, with a nod to Lt. Ackron: "On screen."
(OOC: for your information, once I have Lisa's profile finished she'll come around to tell us more about the dark matter... it's pretty shocking information)

James finished his duties with the intelligence officer and then turned around to listen in on all the commotion going on on the bridge. Listening he heard what was going on down on the surface in in orbit, from what he got he knew that there was dark matter lurking around and that the captain had gone missing.
"Your absolutely right christian, I'll get one together right away" replying to the lt. commander, he then pointed at two officers and said " your with me..." then added "Commander, you have the bridge". Tapping his com badge "McNight to Ensign Harper, Lt. Rei, Doctor Dean, please meet me in transporter room 2 for an away mission."
With that James headed to the nearest turbolift and went to transporter room two.

Sliding in her chair all the way to the end of her console Faith tapped a few buttons. "Channel open sir." She reported. One nice thing about the stations on the bridge you could do most things from one station; sensor sweeps, tractor beam, deflector, communications. Of course some brought in better information because they were designed for the tasks, but it was nice.
Hmm...I wonder if I should try to read his mind during the conversation... Faith just had to think about it. It was not exactly Starfleet or respectful to go after a persons thoughts or emotions, but the captain was missing...

Christian stood up from the Command Chair and faced the viewer. "Mr Vhat," he said. "This is Lieutenant-Commander Christian Hughes in command of the Orion. There's an urgent matter we need to discuss." A few moments after, the familiar head of Vhat appeared on the viewer, smiling one of those obnoxious smiles.
"Ah, Commander Hughes," he said. "It's a pleasure to finally meet such a..." Christian cut him off, not intentionally but due to his social deficit, and said: "we have a problem, Mr Vhat."
"Oh," said Vhat. "Nothing the humble technology of our species can assist you with better than the Federation's? Your technology is..." Again, but this time with a little more intention, Christian cut the man off. He was skirting around the issue. "No," said Christian. "It's a human resources problem. One of our crew members on planetside has not checked in."
Again that smile. "Commander, I assure you it's nothing to worry about!" Vhat said with an obnoxious joviality. "Our planet may be a warzone, but maybe the beauty of it all has simply made your crew member forgot the time! You would, too, I'm sure. Even the higher ranks of Starfleet will be very...." "Even the highest ranks, Mr Vhat?" A slight pause in Christian's conversation, an awkward silence. Even though Christian did not notice, the more socially apt of the crew saw a faint, very brief flicker of doubt on Vhat's face. "Captain Prince is missing. Lieutenant Mishtak also hasn't seen her."
"Commander, I assure you..." Vhat began, but Hughes said: "Let me finish my sentences, will you, Mr Vhat? As her host on the planet, you are partially responsible for her safety. Have you seen her?" A little naive, that question, but then Christian didn't know what Vhat knew. "No," said Vhat with a smile. "One moment we had her and the other she was gone. Must have been the enemy."
"Be that as it may, Mr Vhat," said Christian, intentionally bluffing to ensure the slippery man's cooperation. "If Captain Prince disappears, the Federation will hold you to your responsibility as a host for her security. It is in both our interests that she has to be found." Vhat smiled. "Ah, an offer I can't refuse, Commander? I will look for her."
"Good," said Christian, while Vhat was in the middle of the next sentence about how big his planet was. "Commander McNight is beaming down with an away team to rendezvous with Lieutenant Mishtak and search for the Captain himself. I trust you will do everything in your power to help them, then. That's settled." Vhat now seemed seriously distracted. Christian did not notice however.
"I wish you luck, Mr Vhat. Hughes out," he said, and the channel closed.
"Checkmate, Commander," said Lieutenant Francis over at Ops. "You interrupting him in midsentence was a brilliant bluff." Christian was surprised. He had not noticed anything the like. "Bluff?" he asked. "What bluff?"
He then tapped his commbadge. // Away Team, this is Hughes. Mr Vhat has promised his cooperation in your search. //
