It was the quantum torpedo, rigged up in a record amount of time. "Ready to fire, Crewman?" Christian asked.
"Aye sir."
she watched her screen as the torpedo was loaded into one of the forward tubes, without helm she would have to wait for the enemy ship to move in range... she hoped they didn't know the Orion was sitting still because of damage... no, they didn't... her scanners showed a minor fluctuation in front of them, she aimed, paused, and...
"Quantum Torpedo Away Sir."
She fired, the torpedo launched like any other, but the jury-rigged additions on this one would do more than just make a big boom that no one could hear... the torpedo found it's mark, on the starboard side of the enemy vessel, it impacted, it exploded and the Orion's sensors were flooded with information they had been lacking... the torpedo had ignited the dark matter around the vessel, it became stable again in a few moments, but it had given our sensors enough time to get an accurate reading of the ship, it's systems, it's weapons, shields, hull status and the extra probe in the torpedo recorded everything about the dark matter... information flooded into Tactical, Engineering and Science stations, after the explosion settled and the dark matter stabilized the information stopped coming...
"Direct hit sir, it seems we have reliable information now..."
She ran through the new information on her screen...
"... Sir, it appears the enemies shields are at 50% with minor damage to internal systems. If I ventured a guess, I would say they are more concerned with stabilizing the dark matter they are using than with the actual damage to their ship. Perhaps the Science Officer and Engineering can assist me in locating a weak point that will allow us to use their dark matter against them."

Lisa knew that Christian was probably pleased with the outcome of firing a quantum torpedo at the enemy, and even more that they now knew more about their status. She had been following the happenings on the Bridge ever since she spotted the ship with a growing sense of mixed wonder and a little nervousness. When Crewman Chan requested her assistance, Lisa didn't bother to wait until Christian asked her. "I'll be coming over to your station then, Ms. Chan," she said, leaving Science to a Junior Officer.
The Assistant Chief Science Officer began to think on the challenge now before her: how to make the dark matter of use against the enemy. She, too, had seen the readings of the ignition of the dark matter by the quantum torpedo. However, she did not think they had enough quantum torpedos to keep them burning: rigging one up was a process she'd rather not inflict on Science and Engineering in record time again, and certainly not routinely. There had to be another way.
"It's a bit cruel..." she said, wondering to herself. Igniting the dark matter around the ship had certainly damaged their port shields to 50% of intensity... if they could create an ignition around the ship, they would fry in an almost inhumane manner, something which filled her with apprehension that showed as she continued her sentence after an awkward silence. "... they would fry, but..." she continued. "You know more about weapons than I do, Ms. Chan: do you think we could possibly send another quantum torpedo to ignite the dark matter, then keep it burning by continued phaser fire?" She checked mentally whether the burning components were there: heat, burning material (or matter in this case). All check, now to see if Ms. Chan would think it was possible.

"It's a bit cruel... ... they would fry, but... You know more about weapons than I do, Ms. Chan: do you think we could possibly send another quantum torpedo to ignite the dark matter, then keep it burning by continued phaser fire?"
"Cruel would be an understatement Lt. It would be down right inhumane..."
Although it could be possible, but for it to work they would need helm control and another quantum torpedo, though it would not need to be as upgraded as the last one...
"We would need the ability to track the ship, which we have somewhat managed to do, but we would also need helm control, both to assist in aiming as well as getting us out of the blast zone once we fired... I will keep the target locked if you can get me another quantum torpedo, without the bells and whistles this time though."
She tapped her comm badge
"Chan to Engineering, I know this is short order, but we need another quantum torpedo and we really need helm control restored."
Looking towards Commander Hughes
"Commander, we have a fighting chance, as long as they keep their attacks light as they have been, but we will not be able to do much without Helm... it's your call sir."
She had issued the orders she was able to, and Lisa knew what was needed, but only the Captain, or acting Captain in lieu there of, could make the plans a reality...

Lisa responded to Crewman Chan's shared concerns with a nod. "There has to be some way we can only fry their shields..." She then began systematically explaining the situation to go over it all again. "Let's go over the components again. First, we have a quantum torpedo to ignite the dark matter. Then we have phaser fire to keep it like that and damage their shields..." She had an idea. "This will require some precision, but if we stop the moment we get their shields down, we may be able to find out what's going on and take them down without destroying the ship."
"Your thoughts, Commander?" she asked Christian.

"Your thoughts, Commander?" Lisa asked. Christian thought for some time. "Precision work," he said. "But I know that you won't say anything that's not going to work." He'd trust Lisa with his life: if he were to let himself fall, he knew she would be there to catch him, both metaphorically and literally. She was a very special kind of friend to him. "I trust you make no mistakes, Lisa," he said. "And Crewman Chan is precise enough to do this, are you, Crewman?"
Engineering signalled that the torpedo was rigged up and ready for launch. Still no helm, though. "Lieutenant Francis," he said. "Re-rout that helm control." Lieutenant Francis was experiencing problems with it. "Commander, can you assist?" Christian walked over to the Ops Station and re-routed helm to the tactical station. "This should work, but only for a short amount of time and when we have damage we'll lose it again, I'm sure."
"Better be careful, Crewman. Can you do it?"

"Of course sir."
She hoped she could do it, but it would be difficult, she had trained in simulators on scenarios similar to this, but this time was real and if she failed the whole crew would suffer the consequences...
"I have helm, we're ready sir... better brace for impact..."
She handled the controls expertly, at least in her opinion... the ship moved, her targeting sensors followed it as she set the Orion to follow, she was using a maneuver she had once heard of at the academy, apparently a young Klingon officer had once used it in his training, and if it worked for Worf in training, it should work for them now.
the Orion tracked the dark matter, the vessel was visible in the main view screen. Chan fired the quantum torpedo, followed by a spread of phaser fire, the torpedo ignited the dark matter, and as it seemed the vessel was gaining control to stabilize it again, the phasers hit, re-igniting it and drawing the explosion around the operational shields... the Orion began moving away as the dark matter energy spread like wildfire. Chan cut the phasers as the first wave hit the ship, helm was gone but the ship was still heading on it's last setting, moving slowly away from the enemy ship, which seemed to be having trouble containing the dark matter, another wave hit the Orion... Sensors showed many things, none of them good...
"Sir, we have lost helm again, shields are down to 50%, enemy shields are down to 10%..."
as she was reading her console sparked and she was thrown back, landing hard on the ground...
she started to get up,
"... and we've lost tactical."

With the wave Faith got thrown from her seat but got back up again, well on her knees anyway. "I'm picking up another ship. Looks like they have a little back up." The ship fired making the Orion jolt. Sparks flew some more and the support beam from the ceiling came crashing down.
Faith didn't fully avoid the sparks this time and the jolt made her fall on some ruble causing not just a few scrapes and bruises but a rather long cut to her face, and the worst part; a piece of shrapnel to get stuck in her side. Getting back to her feet she winced as she slowly pulled out the shrapnel.
"Talk about being caught red handed. If no one has any objections I'm going to be heading for sickbay."

There was debris everywhere, Chan got back to her feet in time to see the support beam fall... She watched Faith leave the bridge, pools of blood showing where she had been... Chan got back up and read her display screen, not good... as if losing tactical and helm weren't bad enough another ship was picked up on sensors and shield were dropping below 30%...
"Our shields are below 30% sir, we have taken heavy damage on multiple levels, life support is running on emergency power..."
She didn't know what else to do... except maybe...
"Sir, if transporters are functional, we could beam a small security detail over to the dark matter ship and seize control, then we'd have two ships on our side..."

Christian calculated the odds, but his judgment, which would normally decide against such an action in not-so-dire situations, was clouded by the urgency of the situation. "Make it so," he said. "But make sure you have a replacement on the Bridge ready. And somebody, re-rout tactical!" Chris was worked up.

"Make it so,"
"Aye Sir."
"But make sure you have a replacement on the Bridge ready. And somebody, re-rout tactical!"
She was already on it with a security only comm message sent from the working half of her console, the other half... the important tactical half... was totally fried, but re-routing it to another station should be easy enough, except there were no stations not being used...
A moment later one of the new tactical officers arrived on the bridge, he was the newest member of bridge tactical, trained on the Orion over the past few weeks and this was his first time on duty on the bridge ... he approached tactical and addressed Janet
"Crewman Chan, I'm Crewman Smith, Carmine Smith. Reporting for duty."
"That's nice son, figure out a nice spot to re-route tactical too and that will be your post..."
she began making her way to the turbolift when she stopped and looked back to smith
"Is the security detail i requested assembled?"
"Yes ma'am, they are standing by in Transporter room one"
"Thank you... Commander, we should have that ship in no time..."
and with that se entered the turbolift and was gone...

//"Chan to Orion, we have met enemy resistance..."//
//"Sir we have control of the vessel, we're maneuvering to your side in order to fend off any more incoming ships..."//
After several minutes, both this ship and the Orion were covered in the dark matter cloak...

Lieutenant Vistrol had been at the engineering station on the bridge the whole time trying to sort the things going on out, as well as help keep the ship in one piece. She had heard and observed everything that had gone on. She was not much of a talker, nor did she have any opinions at the time they had been asked for. However, with the other officers busy and a comm coming in from the away team Vistrol felt compelled to speak up...even if this was her first mission where she was a lieutenant...junior grade, but still.
"Nice work. Have you been able to find out how the ship operates?" She was quite curious about that, and she supposed everyone else was too. "When you are ready say the word and we'll transport you back." The team couldn't stay on that vessel forever...maybe just until the captain came back or someone of higher rank said otherwise.

One of the senior staff is back. Vistrol opened a channel. "I'm sending your our coordinates now. Are the others with you?" Her hands just flew across the console in front of her. Another comm came in. "Acknowledged. I'll get the team ready, and oh, one of the away team members is back and will be beaming aboard."
After that little bit She began assembling a small team together.
